Newbie questions

I am brand spanking new and the SB book is actually pretty confusing. I am hoping somone can clarify a few things for me?

Refined foods (sugar, white bread etc....) are the bad guys but naturally occuring sugar is okay?
like yogurt, or certain fruit like tomatoes?

How often or how much of the legal food such as whole wheat grains (cracked, gorund) oats and rye...can you consume? I ate a turkey sandwich w/ whole grain bread.....can I have a little whole wheat pasta w/ spaghetti sauce tonight or is that too much grain for one day?

I am figuring refined food is bad, not necessarily sugar already occuring in food? Is there a limit or ideal amount of "natural" sugar one should have or have I missed the boat?

I have am learning recipes but I am trying to find quick on the go stuff like sandwiches, breakfast food (no major assembly required)......................
any help is appreciated

Welcome Wendy!

The book CAN be confusing, trust me, it's not you. It can not only be confusing, but contradictory. I'm hoping when they come out with the new SB BOOK supposedly next month it will be more precise and clear. With that, don't ever hesitate to ask questions!

Naturally occuring sugars are fine:) There is no limit when it comes to natural sugars, it's the refined you have to worry about, and that should not exceed 3grams PER SERVING.

You should try to limit your starchy carbs to 2-3 a day. What's considered a serving is approx 15 grams of carbs and 80 calories. Remember too that the more fiber some, say a slice of bread, has in it, the better! Portion sizes do matter.

As SOL mentioned, please join us on the weekly support board where we congregate the most. The gals will be happy to give you some ideas for easy things to eat. Make sure you check out our recipe boards as well.

ALSO, there are other gals from your state on the board!:D

GOOD LUCK!

Debbie
