Default Jealous? Really?

A co worker who has lost a lot of weight, went to pick up lunch today. Since I didn't prepare I talked them into Wendy's. I got a small chilli and Ceaser Salad. I used that as one of my meals last week and made sure to tell him about the poor lady behind the counter hunting for crackers and not having the heart to tell her, that I couldn't eat them anyway. So, today, he brings my lunch and carefully places about 8 packets of saltines on my desk. At first, I thought it was an oversight. But, then I took them to him and said, "did you forget or were you being mean?" He said, "I was being mean" That wasn't very nice!

So, then I went past him later and he says, "did you say hot fudge sundae?"

I thought, "what is his problem? He should know what it feels like since he has lost so much." Then, another co worker pointed out to me that he may be jealous and doesn't want the attention taken off of him for his weight loss. How sad. If that is the case, I honestly feel sad for him.

hey Dana
He probably Constantly has food on the brain and is Transferring it onto you. He's pathetic. The really Mean girl in me wants you to put an Exlax Chocolate cakeon his desk
The reasonable girl in me says next time he says Did you say hot fudge sundae say to him "no but you did" and Smile and walk away

What an insensitive thing to do and say. We'll show him... he's going to have to share the "skinny" spotlight with you very soon wether he likes it or not.

I happen to know that he has a weakness for lemon bars. And if he persists, there will be a whole batch on his desk.

I think he thinks he is trying to be funny...Some men are still in 6th grade and never outgrow their jerkiness. hmmm, try lemon bars with crushed "Correctal", That should correct his attitude. @SS!

I go through something just a little bit different. My best friend and I do the "weight battle" together. We walk together, swim together, complain about what we wish we could eat together, and then splurge and drink beer together.

Here's the problem: anytime I try something that's not your mainstream "cut calories and exercise your behind off" diet, she doesn't think it can work, so she doesn't want to hear anything about what I'm doing, how much I've lost, etc.

The last time I did South Beach (Phase 1) I lost either 12 or 14 pounds (I can't remember) in my first two weeks. It seems to just make her mad. And she does fine on Weight Watchers and steadily loses, which is great for her, but when I get stuck in a rut from doing Weight Watchers or fall off the wagon all-together, I need South Beach to get me back on. It's my kick in the pants, if you will. And I know if I can stick to Phase 1, then I can do anything.

Why do people, even close friends, get that way? I can't imagine that my friend is jealous because she's lost more weight than I have and is still going strong, and looks better than I do. She's totally on board with me until I try something different from Weight Watchers or calorie counting.

Ugh!

I think we're all a bit anxious that we will lose the weight and gain it all back. To see somebody having success with a different formula used to make me think (feel actually, because it took me a long time to articulate the thought behind it) that if they have THE answer then I must be deluding myself. Even ongoing success couldn't shake that superstitious feeling that someone else might have the answer and I might not.

These days I see the whole weight loss thing as a journey. I take different horses sometimes (low fat, weight watchers, sbd), maybe even ride the train (Phase 1!), sometimes stop and stay in one spot for a while, then get on a horse and continue the journey.

Maybe the jealous friend is actually just superstitious, tenuous, threatened, worried. Or maybe just mean lol!

Actually I've thought about this a lot...and the friend I was referring to, who sabotaged me last weekend is a totally different person when she is dieting and losing weight...wow...I hadn't thought about that until now! When she is losing weight and feeling good she is very supportive of whatever I choose to do to try to lose weight...but when she isn't she is totally against it.
I met someone the other night..he seemed very interested...she butted in and actually made him run away...hmmm its all coming clear now!!! Thanks for starting this thread...it really made me think!
