Default New to South Beach Diet

Hello Everyone!

I am considering the South Beach diet. It has worked for so many people at my job. In the past, LA Weight Loss worked for me, but it has not been successful lately.

Please help me if you can. I'm looking for some clear and concise information about the diet. Unlike LAWL, there doesn't seem to be a Center or central support group. If any of you have a clear explanation of the three phases and any other information, please share it. Thanks so much, and I look forward to chatting with you all more during my weight loss journey.

Welcome to 3 fat chicks! I am sure others can give you all the info you need. Have you checked out the F&Q section it has a lot of info in it. I am just cruisin by & don't have time to chat. Have you read the book? If you don't want to purchase it check w/ your library or maybe borrow one from a friend. I feel it is a must read to really understand this way of eating. I hope you join us on the beach and stick around!

Welcome to The Beach.

Here's the URL for The South Beach Website.
http://www.southbeachdiet.com/index3.asp. There is also an overview here on this website on the home page http://www.3fatchicks.com/diets/south-beach-diet.php.

Yes, as BAmie says, you really should have the book to understand the theory behind this plan. However, the most up-to-date food lists are here in the Frequently Asked Questions Section; the lists in the book are out of date.

Default Thank You

Hi Everyone!

Thanks a lot for the information and the warm welcome. I have ordered the SBD book along with the cookbook. I hope they will arrive by Wednesday. I plan to start immediately after I've had an opportunity to read the material. I am very excited. In the meantime, I'll continue browsing for tips and inspiration.

Thanks again for welcoming me, and I'll be around.

Hi Ladies!

Well, I officially started the SBD this morning. I am excited! I really need to lose this weight. I do have a question for you all - how do you dress your salads? I have never been a huge oil fan? Are there any dressings that you enjoy? I have a list, but don't recognize anything. Eating a dry salad will be a huge challenge for me.

I am also incorporating aerobics and pilates into my diet plan. This, too, is a challenge, because I rarely have time for myself with work, a husband, a ministry and 2 small children. Nevertheless, I will do my very best.

Now, I know the plan says I can expect to lose 8-14 pounds during the first two weeks. Realistically though, how much did you all lose in the first two?

Thanks for your help and support. I'll speak with you next time...

I believe that you can have any lowfat salad dressing as long as it has 3 grams or LESS of sugar per serving (2 tbsps). Double check the updated food lists in the FAQ.

I have a lot to lose and lost about 8lbs in the 2 weeks of phase 1.

It depends on you, how much you have to lose, how strick you are etc...

Remember that most of that initial weightloss is water - after Phase 1, don't expect to lose more than 1-2lbs each week - keeping it off is key too.

Best of luck.

Joy some tips I use on my salads are cheese (make sure it's low fat!), olive oil & lemon juice (my fav!) and another tip....make your salad, cut your tomatoes & put salt & pepper on it. Let it sit for a few minutes, then toss. The juice of the tomatoes coats everything in your salad.
