Think Thin Thurthday Chat

Good morning and here we go with another lovely autumn day. That's what they say anyhow - it's black as a cast iron fry-pan right now.

Cottage, I sure hope you feel better today.

Donna comes to clean this morning. She says her arm is fine now but I wonder. I know she needs the money. I may have her help me with some sorting upstairs rather than tackle windows.

Dog barking.....later.

ETA: Disney really, really needed out. It's hard to cross your legs when they are so short. Now she's all happy, has had her breakfast, her tiny portion of skim milk and is curled up on the loveseat. Dogs know how to live....and love.

Today the StarChoice (TV guy) is supposed to come and fix my receiver. When the lads did the rood shingling, it got slightly moved and my reception is either poor or non-existent. I called in a repair order way back then but the account is in Harry's name and they needed to talk to him! Grrr! I sent them my power of attorney and now they'll do it. Chickies, make sure all house accounts are in both names. Bell is the same and won't change the name on the bill. Good thing I'm not much of a TV type but Grey's Anatomy is back tonight!

Aside from that I have tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and zucchini crowding my fridge. Can you say ratatouille? I'd also like to make one more batch of salsa.

Right now it's time for breakfast - oatmeal with peaches, I think.

HAve a great Think Thin Thurthday. (Wish I could ditch the lisp!)

CyndiM 09-25-2008 07:17 AM

Good morning Ruth :) I love the new pic! Ratatouille sounds wonderful. I'll have to add that to my rainy weekend cooking projects.

Cottage - hope you are feeling better this morning!

Today is our last sunny day for a few days. We need some rain, I just wish it wouldn't come on the weekend. I guess that's just the Universe's way of making me stay home and get things done instead of driving around looking at birds ;)

It's a late day for me so I'm getting a few projects done around here before heading to the office. I'm still just keeping up with daily exercise and keeping my food in check but not really motivated. Hope this passes soon. I haven't had to work this hard to make my self exercise in months and want to get over it before the weather gives me more excuses!

Now for more coffee :coffee2:

Have a good day Chicks

mandyleigh 09-25-2008 07:51 AM

Hey ladies! Good morning.....running late again this morning....seems to be my trend when the weather starts getting nice!! It's cool outside, low humidity...and going to be that was through the weekend....low 80's and low humidity.....in other words...HEAVEN!!! haha

Happy Thursday everybody!!! (Oh, and Ruth...I'm a speech therapist by the way!! haha)

Ruthxxx 09-25-2008 07:57 AM

A thpeech therpith? Wow! Who knew?

cottagebythesea 09-25-2008 07:58 AM

:coffee2: Hot tea today.

Ruth, I was about to call you on your spelling, but now I see you did it on purpose. ;) Yes, that's worth taking note about making sure all accounts are in both names. It can sure save a lot of hassle further down the road.

Cyndi, I hope you manage to get in your exercise today. I had planned to get back to Curves this week, but now I've got this blasted cold and it's just enough effort to get up in the morning.

We're preparing for a Nor'Easter to hit us tonight. They're calling for heavy rain and strong winds all the way up through the weekend. It's a good thing we didn't have any plans. I'm just taking my time this morning and will head on over to Cindy's by 10. She was nice enough to call to say she'd get the kids off to school today, since it's supposed to be my turn. We're going to do a rare thing this afternoon, I'm going to let Maggie pick out a movie and I'm going to curl up and doze while she watches it.

Loriann7 09-25-2008 07:59 AM

Good Morning. Today I have an interview at one, then I have to meet my sister at 330 to pick up the baby gate, she had drove the wrong vehicle to work yesterday and called to change the day. Meeting her at work will cut out 20 mins to my drive time one way. So I'm thinking to go try getting a couple bras before the interview. Why the **** are those things so expensive any how?

Kitty kept me up all night, running around, jumping HIGH at her own shadow! Purring all night long, laying on me, then going back to play! She's definitely feeling much better! Right now she's checking out the house again as Jade is outside. I brought her out, put her on couch and she ran back for the bedroom, and started from there making her way out of the room! Silly girl! Now she's on the computer desk playing with everything in sight! Thinking Honey may not be her name afterall! More like "Annie"... you all know the orphan annie? troublemaker? LOL... and after my gramma. Not sure I like it though. sigh.

Ruthxxx 09-25-2008 08:01 AM

War has been declared around here! The mice have come back and kindly left a wee calling card on the shelf where I keep my crockpot. Grrr! I have shelves in the stairwell running to the cellar and that's where they start their invasion. Sneaky little buggers! It's WARfarin time! I need to head them off before they hit the kitchen.

mandyleigh 09-25-2008 08:03 AM

hahahahaha....ruth....that cracked me up!!!

Loriann7 09-25-2008 08:03 AM

Ruth, cats are awesome micers!

Speaking of which, I think I may be allergic :(. Since I've gotten kitty my eyes are watery every morning and I have a few itchy spots on my face where she rubs. :(

Ruthxxx 09-25-2008 08:06 AM

Loriann, I know that I am allergic to cats although I had one for 22 years. Same symptoms as you have. It got so I had to wash my hands immediately after petting her and cuddling against skin was out!

Loriann7 09-25-2008 08:09 AM

Ruth, I had two cats up till earlier this year, had them for 15 years! Never had a problem! Wondering if it's just when they sleep with me, my cats weren't allowed in my bedroom.

CyndiM 09-25-2008 08:15 AM

The little joys of country living! My kitties keep the mice out of my kitchen and apartment, or at least out of visual range. The little buggers do get into a couple of the old cupboards that are open in back so I have to choose carefully where I put things. The thing I really hate is not being able to use my storage room as cold storage for apples. That turned out to be a bad thing a couple of years ago. Darn

Barb0522 09-25-2008 08:24 AM

Most of our bills were in my name but there is one that is in Robert's. When he forwarded his mail, the bill went to him and of course he wouldn't pay it or get it to me on time. They won't change the name on the account without closing the account and reopening it in my name and they won't close it unless he calls them. He refused until the divorce is final so I had to put it on autopay. He can be such a jerk.

He moved hospitals on Tuesday and was supposed to call and tell me where they moved him. So far no call. He can't expect me to bring Brian to visit if I don't know where to take him. Our last visit wasn't that smooth because he kept going on about how he shouldn't have had to pay child support but instead should have gotten spousal support. I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling him what I really felt (Brian was there).

Work is crazy busy and I've been spending every spare moment working on Wood Badge stuff.

Schmoodle 09-25-2008 08:26 AM

Aloha chicks,
We are all alergic to cats to some degree here. I think everybody is. I just vacuum a lot and medicate when necessary. Can you imagine my pediatrician once suggested getting rid of them? My oldest DD never reacted to our cats, but when she'd go to someone else's house and hold or cuddle their kittens, she'd have a bad reaction. Maybe kittens are worse than adult cats for dander?
My cats are worthless on the mice. They enjoy it when they show up and like to play with and torment the critters, but they never actually kill them.
I'm watching that storm, we've got plans to go canoeing Saturday morning with the Girl Scouts. Hope we don't get washed out.
Today is running around, got an IEP meeting at DS's school this morning, need to hit the creamery for milk. DD has dance class later on. Some other errands thrown in there.
I put my bucket of grape tomatoes to dry in the oven overnight. They are oh so yummy and I may end up pecking at them all day until they're gone.

cottagebythesea 09-25-2008 08:29 AM

How did do your tomatoes in the oven, SCHMOODLE? I threw out my dehydrator, so I'd love to learn an alternative way of drying a few things. How's your rash today?

Loriann7 09-25-2008 08:33 AM

Barb, Robert should NOT of gone there with Brian in the room. My ex still does that, goes off about me with my son around. My son eventually realized who the jerk really is when his father and uncle were bragging about him beating on me! (Men, just never know when to shut up, and they say we women are bad!).... At one point he showed up at his sisters (who I am Still best friends with) and started going off, Barbie sent my son in the other room, then went off on Joe and kicked him out of her house. At first he didn't leave till uncle Jimmy came out (he was 93 at the time) and told him he'd never heard such language and he wasn't welcome there! Mind you, Uncle Jimmy loved everyone!

Schmoodle, perhaps your right that we are all allergic to some degree or other. I just wish kitty wasn't so scared of puppy! Puppy just wants to play! Hence why I need to get over to sis's for my baby gate. Yes, I priced them, yes, cheaper to get mine back! :).

Schmoodle 09-25-2008 08:43 AM

cottage, I put them on a cookie sheet with a little salt and in the oven at 200 for about 6 hours - they were grape tomatoes. I probably could have done them longer because they're not completely dry, but they are really good this way. If I don't eat them all, I may pack some in olive oil. Probably not the most energy efficient thing, maybe if I had a few sheets in there at a time.

Thanks for asking, the rash is still there, still itchy, but it hasn't spread and doesn't look as red today. I'm sure it was the tomato plants, I haven't reacted to them before, but my skin is weird that way. I've cleaned pumpkins every year of my life until a couple of years ago, my hands turned red and raw like they'd been in acid and swelled up. Now I wear gloves.

I set up all our accounts because DH was away until just before we moved here. I went to settlement and all without him and I have a financial POA, so I am in complete control muah-ha-ha. The only problem would be for him if I kick off first, but then I'll be gone so I won't care, hee-hee. That's what he gets for letting me deal with this stuff all these years. If he turns into a jerk or goes first, I'm set.

cottagebythesea 09-25-2008 08:46 AM

Thanks, Schmoodle. I'm going to give it a go with my cherry tomatoes. We have zillions of them and most have been going to waste.
I get the same reaction with cleaning out pumpkins, but it only lasts until I give my hands a good washing with lots of soap.

beachgal 09-25-2008 08:56 AM

Ruth, I love the new avatar. It's a wonderful photo of you both. Too funny about all the name things. Most of our stuff is in DH's name. I never even thought about it! I'll have to get on that... Sounds like a yummy day in your fridge! :D I'm drinking a cup of chai and using your gorgeous coaster. I'll keep it here at work where the bright colors will cheer me up and make me think of you. :goodvibes:

Cyndi, getting bored/unmotivated with exercise is awful! I'll start a thread on that (though I think we also have some discussions about it in other threads--may be worth a search). Can you try something new to help motivate you?

I'm so sorry you're still ill, Cottage! :getwell: Hope the movie and tea help. Haven't heard about the storm, but suppose it could hit us as well. It's foggy and cloudy this morning.

Loriann, I have the same issues with cats. But as long as I keep my hands away from my eyes after petting them, I'm usually okay. I have no scientific data, but even the most allergic people I know (DH being one) seem to eventually become immune to cats that they live with, even for a short time. DH starts all visits to his parents (who have had up to 2 cats over the years) with allergies that taper off by the end of our week-long time with them. Hopefully it'll go away. If not, there's always allergy shots!

Ruth, I'm a big proponent of live trapping mice (and then letting them go in Ottawa so they never find their way home!). We tried everything else with our pantry mice and it never worked. The live traps worked perfectly--we caught one mouse a night until they were gone. DH dropped them off in the woods on his way to work and we've never seen them again. I know Ellis needs some mice removed from her place...maybe you can drop yours off by her and then pick hers off to drop off by you! ;) City/Country mouse anyone?

Wow, Barb, I really thought he'd have calmed down by now. He's been such a jerk to you, but I just can't understand why he's being so irresponsible and thoughtless to Brian. I'm SO glad you got out of that marriage! Hope it gets easier soon.

Schmoodle, are you willing to post in the recipe forum about how you dry the tomatoes? I still don't have a dehydrator, but I have a lot of tomatoes! Hope your rash is better, hon! I'm the same way with pumpkins, hon. Didn't know anyone else was like that. I'm also allergic to pine needles, so I get a rash at almost every holiday involving natural decorations!

Me:
I'm tired! :tired: It's day 3 of Phase 1 after this weekend's off-plan eating and maybe that's why? I'm still getting used to our laptop (in the sense that I'm still getting used to figuring out how to incorporate it into my day without spending all my time on it! :o ). A dear friend found me online last night and got me chatting, which was great, but I sure needed to go to bed!

SSDD here--gym, home, and making dinner. DH is working the church spaghetti supper tonight, so I'll be eating alone. I hope to fill out my goal chart today (I've been trying ever since Kaplods mentioned it!) while I have that alone time.

Have a great day, chickies!

zeffryn 09-25-2008 09:03 AM

Morning girls :)

Ruth - you've inspired me to go through our bills and change them all to both names. DH is not going to be happy about having to spend all afternoon on the phone with these companies to do so, though. When we move, we're likely going to have to change everything anyway, so maybe I can just wait until November.

I think we found a house....maybe....we may just rent for the time being. We can't afford two mortgages and we may end up moving to Baton Rouge next year. It really isn't worth buying a house, selling this one, and then having to go through the process all over again.

Not much happening today - I've vowed to give my bathrooms a thorough scrubbing today. Even though the bathroom looks clean - It has been too long since I've cleaned behind the toilet and in the shower. Ick. I started by washing the shower curtain and liner last night.

Yesterday when I went to the supermarket I found a ton of quick sale meats that needed to be either consumed or frozen within 48 hours. I bought most everything they had. Lean ground beef for $.99 a lb., pork chops for $1.50/lb., pork loins....freezer is restocked. :)

schmoo,

Pacergal29 09-25-2008 09:08 AM

Morning ladies! I just can't seem to get here early enough to do personals! Still flying high after DD awesome Volleyball game lastnight, there was a great write up in the paper this morning with the coach mentioning how improved she was and what a great job she did! She made 17 of 19 serves lastnight! I know I gush too much!

Woke this morning to a new friends request on facebook from a former HS classmate who is rather famous now (think of a popular little person), who would have thought after 21 years he would even remember who I am?

Well I have another busy day ahead and I'm not getting anything done hanging out here. Have a great day ladies!

Oh and just to clarify my post lastnight, my tiara and wand were a gift from a co-worker, I didn't actually buy it! :D

JessieW 09-25-2008 09:12 AM

Zeff--I am impressed you can lean over to clean. I have had pain when I try to bend over since I was like 15 weeks, ridiculously early. Not sure if it was how she was positioned or what. I need to clean so desperately but have zero energy when I get home from work and not a whole heck of a lot of mobility!! I think it's good I am working because I am afraid if I were at home I would only get off the couch to pee. Too hard to get up and down. LOL.

I confess that I think all our bills are in DH's name and I wouldn't even know how to pay them if something happened to him. Eeek! I do have a store credit card that I pay off if I use it that month so I have some credit in my name.

Definitely a yawning kind of morning. I barely slept last night between potty breaks and crazy dreams. Looking forward to making soup tonight and watching The Office!

ETA: Interested and probably showing my ignorance, but what do you DO with dried tomatoes and peppers and such?

hmacneil6 09-25-2008 09:27 AM

Good Morning Ladies!!! Happy Thursday!!!
Ruth - Ah yes, the morning potty break. My dogs require it almost the exact moment they wake up. Hope you're able to get everything cleaned today. ANd yes, I'm also looking forward to Gray's!!!

Cyndi - Our exercise queen is unmotivated to exercise....that's not like you. Hopefully it's just the weather and such. Try changing things up a bit, that sometimes helps me.

Mandy - Enjoy your lovely weather!!!

Cottage - Glad to hear that you're feeling better. Cuddling up in front of a movie sounds LOVELY!!!!

Loriann - Good luck on that interview today. And i hope you find a bra that's really supportive ;)

Barb - You would think that after what your ex has been through there might have been some perspective on his part and understand things a little bit better. Sorry he continues to be a donkey!

Schmoodle - Good luck at your IEP. I hope that it's an amicable meeting...is it his annual review. I didn't know you had a son with an IEP. I hope it all goes well. Enjoy your tomatoes.

Laurie - Sorry to hear that you're so tired. Make sure you're getting your beans and dairy in (like we need to tell you ;)) Enjoy your quiet time tonight.

Zeff - To clean the bathroom at your time in the pregnancy is quite the feat. Great job. Did you decide on a movie for the weekend???

Stephanie - Sounds like your DD is really making her mark. Aren't you glad you talked with the coach. Great work!!!

Jessie - Me too, right now regarding the bills. But I figure that when we buy a home, we'll switch to joint accounts. That's actually a good reminder as well.

Me - The scale is very kind this morning.....down another 1.5 pounds. I've officially lost over 40 pounds!!! :carrot: :carrot: Had a great dinner last night, planning on posting the Italian green bean recipe I made. So yummy!!! Nothing much different tonight. Lots of TV....Survivor, Ugly Betty, Gray's Anatomy. It's a full night. We still have nothing on deck this weekend....which is strange for us. I'm sure we'll come up with something soon.
Have a great Thursday, Ladies!!!

Loriann7 09-25-2008 09:36 AM

HMA, congrats on the scale!

zeffryn 09-25-2008 09:41 AM

Jessie - I can't bend over and touch my toes (DH paints my toenails now) - but I've been doing prenatal yoga that has been keeping me limber...also, maybe the second pregnancy has something to do with it. I put on some construction knee pads and crawl around. I can only work in 10-15 minute stints though.
Have a nice day!

Hmac- Congrats on the loss! The really hard cleaning I save for DH and I'm afraid if I don't get it done now....it won't get done. It only gets harder when I get bigger. As far as the movie - I put a bunch of movies on my netflix and whichever one comes is what we'll watch.

CyndiM 09-25-2008 09:43 AM

Wow, that's great Heather! Time to go shopping (okay, I almost always think it's time to go shopping)!
:cp::broc:

Pacergal29 09-25-2008 09:47 AM

Great Job Heather! :carrot:

BrendaS104 09-25-2008 11:08 AM

Morning Ladies... DH gave me his lovely cold so now I'm sick with both kidney infect AND stupid cold. I'm not sure what I'll be able to eat today with a swollen throat. So far I've had coffee.. that's it.

zeffryn 09-25-2008 11:09 AM

Smoothie?

Suggestion for all you ladies: Do not store your chapstick next to your glue stick in your desk drawer. :dizzy:

jandaman 09-25-2008 11:11 AM

really dig the alliteration :)
rah rah rah heather! awesomest! :cheer2:

hmacneil6 09-25-2008 11:12 AM

Zeff - You didn't!!!!

Cyndi - Believe me.....I've already been shopping. I got some great deals at Sears and Lane Bryant over the summer. But I'm looking forward to buying some new pants when it cools off.

Thanks everyone!!!!

zeffryn 09-25-2008 11:13 AM

Heather - just one lip...:o

JessieW 09-25-2008 11:15 AM

Zeff--Did you really or did you just read that on Rocks in My Dryer?? LOL. I saw this Twitter about 5 minutes ago: http://twitter.com/rocksinmydryer

Please tell me I am not hallucinating!

are you serious? that's crazy. I did it early this morning (about 2 a.m.) when I was digging through my desk because my lips were cracked.

man, I haven't twittered in a long time...I need to get back to that.

What is rocks in my dryer?

JessieW 09-25-2008 11:20 AM

Rocks in My Dryer is just the name of that lady's blog. For a minute I thought I was insane and it HAD to be the same person. LOL.

If you follow Twitter at all, I am vanderbiltwife.

Oh my.

I'm Zeffryn - but I haven't updated in ages....I'm not very fun to follow ;)

I'll have to check out her blog, although I definitely do not need another blog to read in the mornings.

mmk...time to tackle the bathroom. Blech.

sheltiemomma 09-25-2008 11:28 AM

Hello everyone

My name is Brie and I'm new to the forums, but not new to SBD. From Oct. 06 to Apr. 07 I lost 50 lbs on SBD, but then went into a depression and gained it back

So, I'm starting over again. Starting phase 1 on Monday. Hubby is starting with me too :D We both need to lose over 200 lbs and I know that SBD works!

Gotta get back to the gym also. I love working out. Don't know why I ever quit :?:

Ruthxxx 09-25-2008 11:35 AM

:welcome: Sheltiemomma. Thanks for joining the crazy daily chat thread.

Be sure to join the Phase One Thread when you tackle SBD on Monday. CAn I assume you've read the book? There's lots of additional info and hints in the FAQ section.

Fat Melanie 09-25-2008 11:47 AM

Ruthxxx, I love your new avatar. It's adorable! Very Autumny, too.

Barb, uh oh, and here I thought the accident changed good old Robert from what I've read recently. Seems he's slowly easing back into his own ways! I hate, hate, hate when a man b*tches about paying child support as my dad constantly did the same. Why don't they feel they should have to? Urggh. It's a quality in a man that makes me literally cringe in disgust. I hope things get better soon.

Loriann, your ex is a gigantic word I can't say here so I'll use the word 'jerk' in replacement. I agree, that Robert shouldn't have said those things in front of the child!

Pacergal, don't tell me you're friends with Verne Troyer? Did you ever see his antics on that trashy show the surreal life... wow.

HcMacneil, yes Ugly Betty!!!!!!!!! And congrats on the 40lb loss. :D

Hi everyone else. Pregnant Ladies... did your doctors or birthing instructors or whoever tell you about that awkward cat arch pose? Mine did. She suggested doing that when I had back pain and other uncomfortable pains from the pregnancy. When BF and I were showed a video of a weird instructor doing said pose, we had to keep from laughing, like the immature children that we were. The thing was, that thing only seemed to work at the moment you did it, never after. They touted it as some sort of lasting stretch to ease your pain for the night but it didn't work for me. Did feel good when doing it (the cat arch pose, that is.)

***

We bought DS a jumper/bouncer thing, whatever you call it, like the doctor suggested. It's in the shape of a big yellow car, complete with steering wheel and all. It is stationary and you stand in it and bounce up and down. So far he's not quite tall enough and seems to sink down in it. But it's adorable.

We decided we won't try to return the walker because my grandmother's feelings will be hurt, but we'll use it only occasionally. Say for example, I hear someone arrive, see my grandmother get out of her car, and head toward the front door. Occasions like that!

Plus, at the moment, he can't really walk anywhere in the walker, he just stands up in it and presses against the floor with his feet. So I figure for now he's getting good leg exercise out of it since he's not propelling himself all over the place. So I put him in it sometimes, like now while I'm at the computer. It's like a little spaceship and he likes to press the steering wheel button because it plays noise and play with the big beads on it. Soon he'll be on his dreaded tummy time which is getting easier for him.

Last night he went into the crib with no problems. He lay there for awhile and then went to sleep. I finished up this really good book I've been digesting the past week or so. This was not a quick read, this was a slow digestion process because it was a particularly detailed book with deeper lessons in it than your normal typical book fare. "Stones from the River" by Ursula Hegi. Probably one of the better-written books I've read in awhile although it was depressing. But definitely something to chew on.
