Thursday's Cluckings

It's a beautiful morning, yesterday's storms chased the muggies away and there's a fresh, cool breeze blowing right now. I just shut down the air conditioners and opened all the windows to air out the house.

Today promises to be a much calmer day than the past few. I still have to go in early and probably work late, but other than gymnastics camp, there's nothing on the agenda. We're going to the library this morning to check out some books on tape for the girls to listen to on their long road trip next week. Only today and tomorrow, then I'm off for 9 whole days! :carrot:

Pull up a chair while I refill my cup. Let's chat a while. :cofdate:

Ruthxxx 07-12-2007 06:30 AM

Good morning! I just went around and opened all the windows and am watching the glorious sun hit the top of the trees at the edge of the meadow.

My calendar is perfectly clear today and I'm loving it! I may turn off the phone, not answer the door and just keep it like that. I actually hope to spend some sitting and reading time on the back deck today. Donna came yesterday when I was at the doctor so my house is all spiffed up. Time to just enjoy!

The doc visit was not good, I'm afraid. I will need a total knee replacement and it's not going to happen for at least six months! In the meantime, I hurt and will just have to keep on with the Celebrex, Glucosamine and Aleve as nothing else can be done. :( I'll try not to crab too much! I am meeting with my trainer at the gym tomorrow to take another look at my routine as I'm not to do anything that hurts. Like walking?

Anyhow, another coffee and some deck time is about to happen. The Girls are delighted. They also hope to mooch some of my raspberries which have finally started to produce.

Have a lovely Thursday. :cofdate:

cottagebythesea 07-12-2007 06:47 AM

:grouphug: for you, Ruth, I think you're in need of some extra special coddling. I'm so sorry about the news on your knees, I was keeping my fingers crossed for you that there'd be a bit of good news. :( About the only good thing I can say is that everyone I know that had knee replacement has been very happy with the results. The recovery period is pretty tough, though. Knowing there's a light at the end of the tunnel should help get you through it, though.
I know exactly how you feel, wanting to turn off the phone and not answering the door. That's my pledge for next week, and Andrea is forbidden to have the baby until after my vacation! Take care, Ruthie, my friend, and know we all care so much for you.

tomandkara 07-12-2007 06:51 AM

Oh Ruth, I'm so sorry about your knee. It's never fun to be in pain, and to know you have to wait so long for some relief... You'll be in my prayers.

Cottage, I'm glad your day is looking calmer. Really, anything would look calmer next to yesterday, though!!!

I just got back from the gym. I really need to get in the shower but I had to sit down for a minute. Of course, I sat down at the computer to chat with you chickies! I ran SIX MILES and made an incredible discovery! I LIKE running! WHAT?! When did that happen? It took an entire year of forcing myself to do it and working up to my goal slowly, but I have been able to run five miles at a time for about six months now; I even got to six miles today and could have kept going! But the breakthrough is that I actually enjoyed myself today. Amazing!

I'm going to hit the showers and wash off this nastiness. Cluck at you all later!

Kara

little chick 07-12-2007 06:53 AM

If you hear this story today you know that it is me: Newbreaking story poor babysitter has been found in driveway after she jumped off the roof, poor children left inside with her dd's the poor woman is fine although she has huge bald spots where she has pulled out her hair.

Can you tell it is raining here again today. :dizzy: the poor kids are going shack wacky. They are even getting tired of crafts, games and stories, even Junie B Jones is not keeping them interested. :?: Whats up with this weather anyway.

Sorry about the rant, I do feel slightly better.

Morning Cottage- Glad to hear you have a quiet day today.
Morning Ruth- Sorry to hear about the knee, hopefully the 6 mos will go by fast.
Me- other than jumping off the roof nothing planned. May try to clean out the computer room at some point. We are having a big community yard sale next weekend. I do feel skinner today so that is a plus.

Have a great day. I am sure I will be back later.

little chick 07-12-2007 06:54 AM

Good eveing to you Kara, we were posting at the same time. Good for you on the running thing. I would like to try it, but so far I am all talk.

tomandkara 07-12-2007 06:58 AM

LC, have you ever played restaurant with them? Make up menus and get out some old clothes they can dress up in and have a "fancy" lunch that they help prepare!

If I come up with anything else I'll post it.

Kara

cottagebythesea 07-12-2007 07:29 AM

L.C., do you have any cardboard boxes around? How about making a "cardboard city"? That's kept my girls entertained for hours. They can paint and decorate the boxes however they want. My girls like to bake when they're stuck inside, too. Of course, it's easier to handle just 2 girls rather than several. (PS) - When you jump off the roof, watch out you don't land on me! I jumped yesterday! :D

Kara, that's great that you enjoy running. I've tried it but it's not for me. :p My lasagna was delicious yesterday. I'll find out today if Cindy's family enjoyed theirs. She insisted I add a little meat to theirs, too. Ugh.

weezle 07-12-2007 07:30 AM

Morning everyone!

I'm tiiiiiiiired. Couldn't sleep for ANYTHING last night. Went to bed at 10, laid awake past 1, and then woke up freezing all night long. (WHINE.) It's alright though. I'll make it.

I have a meeting in Indianapolis today. It's going to be at Ponderosa. Joy. Nothing like a buffet to help your weight loss. I'll be alright though. I'm taking a snack bar and I'll just try to fill up on salad and veggies or something like that.

Cottage, that vacation is almost here! I bet you can hardly stand it! DH and I have time to take and I think we've decided that we're going to take a week in August and have a garbage sale. Yes, I call it a garbage sale. We have SO much stuff to get rid of! I'm ready to de-clutter! I hope work goes quickly the next two days for you!

Ruthie, that sucks about your knee. My friend's dad blew out both his knees when he was young playing sports, so he had to have his kneecaps removed. Then this past winter, he went to walk down the stairs and tripped, catching his foot on the step and twisting his leg behind him, snapping the ligament that holds your thigh and calf together with the help of your kneecap (which he has none of.) Had to have surgery putting that ligament together and ugh what a pain. Then while on crutches, his wife went down the stairs and tripped, and ended up breaking her foot. They were both on crutches at the same time and had to get up early to dress each other and stuff. I hope your surgery, when it happens, goes as well as it possibly can. I'll say some prayers that your knee feels better soon.

Kara, I made that same realization last summer! I used to HATE running. Believed it should only be done when being chased. Then I dropped some weight and started, and I was up to 6 mi/day last summer until even running bothered my shoulder. I'm ready for my shoulder to be all better so I can do the things I like to do again. Good for you learning how to love running!

LC, sorry you and the children are losing your minds.... Hope the rain stops soon!

Well, I need to hit the shower. Time to get all fancied up for this meeting. I get to meet my NEW Regional today. I had just gotten used to the old one. :( That's alright, I understand I'm going to love this guy, so I'd better get moving. Talk to you all soon!

Lisa

indigal 07-12-2007 07:44 AM

Hi ladies!
It's an overcast drizzly kinda day here...a few dry times. I am really trying to get motivated to start some exercise plan...but my "get up and go" seems to be gone for the time being.... I know now that I'm on phase 2, I need to incorporate some kind of regular exercise... I let my self be lax during phase 1...no more excuses! Yikes! ... I think I'll check out the exercise threads for some motivation...

Cottage- Woo Hoo! 9 day holiday coming up fast! Have a great "calmer" day today.

Ruth- Sorry to hear about knee needing surgery, 6 months will fly by in no time! Mmmm! Rasberries! I miss getting berries...none here in India :( ...Enjoy your day!

Kara- Running fun???? Congrats! I wish I could say that. I need to loose some weight before I can even consider running.... my knees would die!:running::stars:

Little Chick-Rant away as much as you need to...it's less messy than jumping from the roof! LOL!:sunny:

Have a great Day! Same to everybody yet to check in.
I'll try and check in again later.

Oceans13 07-12-2007 07:45 AM

Hi everyone!

I am new here, my 1st post.

I just started SB this past Monday. I just bit the bullet and stepped on the scale this morning, that was hard! Ok, deep breath, at least I have a starting point.

I really hope this diet works!

I stumbled upon this site and after looking around it looks pretty cool. Lots of support, so I decided to join. It's always better to have buddies helping you with this, so here I am. I guess being new I won't be much help (lol) but hope you guys can help me.

Anyway, good morning!

indigal 07-12-2007 07:48 AM

:coffee:Lisa- Sorry you did'nt sleep well , then have to go to a meeting to top that off! Veggies and Coffee! That'll get ya through!

indigal 07-12-2007 07:53 AM

Oceans13-:wel3fc:

THis is a great place for support! Pull up a towel and stay awhile!
Feel free to post any question you may have, we'll try and answer them.

Ruthxxx 07-12-2007 08:00 AM

OCEANS13, adding my :welcome: to Idigal's! This is a great place for ideas and to get and give support. We sometimes even have fun!

cottagebythesea 07-12-2007 08:09 AM

:welcome3: Oceans13! So happy to have you joining us here! Have you read the book yet? It has valuable info that you'll want to have to gain a better understanding of this WOE, and, of course, you'll get a wealth of support and encouragement from all us chickies sunning here, too. :)

little chick 07-12-2007 08:29 AM

Welcome Oceans13
Cottage- thank god you jumped yesterday it will make my fall less painfull.
I wish I had some boxes. I think maybe we will do some finger painting today, with pudding. That is if I am brave enough.

Bauhaus Betty 07-12-2007 08:31 AM

Welcome Oceans13!

Ruth, so sorry to hear about your knee, and the wait you're going to have to endure.

Cottage, 9 days off? Woo hoo! I made SB lasagna last night too!

LC, good luck entertaining the kiddies! I'll be checking the news for reports.

Weezle, funny you should mention that you used to feel running was something you should only do if being chased. I still hate to run, but I've always wondered if I could just hire an angry tiger as a trainer, maybe I'd be able to do it or at least have a better attitude about it...you and Kara are giving me hope that maybe one day, I could be a runner too!

Indigal, good luck getting into the excercise routine. I'm guessing they don't have gyms in rural India...are there many opportunities for hikes there?

Me, still packing. The movers are coming tomorrow at 2 pm. Who knew I had this much stuff??? I've thrown out multiple garbage bags and I've made two trips to Goodwill...it's like it's multiplying when I'm not looking! :dizzy: Anyone know a good frontloader rental company?

Kiko 07-12-2007 08:32 AM

Good morning!

Ruth I am so sorry to hear about your knee, especially that you will be in pain for the next six months! You can always grip to us, you know that.

Cottage Glad to hear that your day will be a bit more quiet today. I didn't realize that you had some time off coming up. Yippee!

Lisa YAWN! Sorry you didn't sleep well. Hope all goes well at your meeting today.

LC I am sure you are going crazy with the rain. We stopped to visit Abigail's preschool teacher a few weeks ago and she looked like she was going nuts- they hadn't been outside in almost 3 weeks.

Indigal Good night! Hope you have sweet dreams!

Oceans :welcome3: We are gald that you are here. :)

Kara I "took up" running a few years ago and once I built up my stamina and distacne I liked it. It certainly produced fast weight loss for me.

Me- We are sticking close to home today. I have a ton of work to catch up with this curriuculum writing. It is more tedious than anything, I am not recreating the wheel- it is just time consuming.

Last night we went to a Roughriders game- they are a AA baseball team. DH was chosen "Game VIP" for his company, so we got a tour of the ballpark, free hats, they took our picture, all you can eat food. It was fun and totally free. Abigail had a ball- we suprised her yesterday, she had no idea DH was coming home early. It was fun, and I stayed OP. :)

Today is also my last day of Phase 1- I am down 6 pounds. :carrot:

Kiko 07-12-2007 08:34 AM

Morning Betty! I do not enjoy packing at all, so do not envy you. Hope it all goes smoothly!

Pacergal29 07-12-2007 09:04 AM

Wow do I feel late today or what? Everyone is up and at! Feeling a bit like a beached whale today, late supper and TOM just around the corner (kara I told you to keep an eye on him! ;) )

Cottage thank goodness for calmer days!
Ruth take care of that knee, here wishing you the where with all to make it through!
Kara Way to go on the running! Maybe someday, I think I have the mindset I haven't ran in my 38 years I'm to old to start now!
LC you are a brave brave soul! Heres some sanity dust to help you make it trough!
Lisa I am sure you are off by now, hope your meeting goes well! Sometime ago you had asked where I am and I don't believe I ever replied, I am about 30 mins south of Terre Haute in a small small town!
Kitty I am with you, having trouble getting motivated to do much beyond yoga in the morning, may we both find the motivation we need!
Welcome Oceans! This group is great, pull up a towel and join us!
Betty hope the remaining packing goes well, when we moved the last time I swore never again!
Kiko the game sounds like it was a blast!

Guess I should get my hiney in gear, this pile on my desk isn't going to go away on its own! Have a great day everyone!

sstambler 07-12-2007 09:06 AM

HI all - I have been reading daily but only posted a couple of times. Sometimes life seems too busy to repeat in writing. Busy with job transitions so haven't had much exercise time for the last couple of days. For me when the exercise goes, the food starts to go too... hope to get my butt moving today. Those Jillian Michales workouts were great and I have to modify them. My idea of being in good shape and hers are very different.

It seems to me that all of you (us) chicks lead very busy lives... I do enjoy your company very much and will try to post more.... great day to all - Suzyq

Schmoodle 07-12-2007 09:11 AM

Good Morning Ladies, getting a slow start this morning. We didn't get home from the show until midnight last night. It was really good, but went later than I thought and I think it was a real challenge for the niece to stay awake! Anyway, someone on here asked for a report, so here it is. Great show! Michael York very good as King Arthur, Pamela York very good as Guinevere, James Barbour FANTASTIC as Lancelot! That guy's got some serious lungs, "If Ever I Should Leave You" gave me chills.
I was kind of bad last night, feeling some guilt today. We went to Sakura (Japanese Hibachi) before the show, and I had salad with dressing scraped off, clear mushroom broth, no rice, salmon and veggies, and diet coke. All okay except for the butter they use to grill the stuff. I'm sure it was too much fat. At the show I had a SF LF Vanilla Latte. Then got home at midnight starving, and instead of triscuits ate a few RF Wheat Thins with LFLC Cheese and a fudgesicle. Not a total blowout, but feeling naughty today.
I'm over my funk I think (thank goodness). When I got dressed last night I pulled out some capris that I outgrew towards the end of last summer and they fit fine now! It made me think that my jeans had gotten very tight and are now comfortable again, I've been wearing shorts that were really tight last year and are now a little baggy, and I can walk and run up and down stairs without panting and gasping. So we're making some progress! That gave me a nice little boost.
Today is Harry Potter! I can't wait! Going to the afternoon matinee. I may hit up my niece to take the kids to the pool for me this afternoon, if she's not working. Although right now it feels a little cool for swimming. Which is awesome.

Kiko, congrats on Phase I graduation and on the six pounds!
Betty, I'm constantly fighting all my stuff, even though I'm constantly de-cluttering. One day, I think I'll lost the battle and they'll find me buried here. I hate to move more than anything, so I think I'll be in this house the rest of my days.
littlechick, sorry the weather isn't cooperating. Please don't jump, we need you!
Oceans13, great to see you here! Definitely read the book, but also read the info here on this forum. Don't jump into Phase II the way it's written in the book, you need to ease in gradually. Lots of good recommendations here, ask if you need to!
indigal, I'm with you, I hate to exercise. I've been trying to trick myself into doing more without calling it exercise.
Lisa, are you wearing your hot new jeans today?
cottage, glad you have an easy day today!
Ruth, I'm sorry about your knee. Glad you have nothing on the agenda today. Those days are priceless and rare!
Nighty-night Kara, sleep tight!

Well, I haven't eaten yet, bad me, time to stoke the furnace, then WORK!

Schmoodle 07-12-2007 09:13 AM

Missed you, pacergal and sstambler. good morning to you too!

Sarynit 07-12-2007 09:45 AM

Weezle – Congrats on the jeans! You must be so stoked. Never say never on the size 4 – anything can happen. – may I ask what you’re doing PT for? How long? Has it been successful?

Jessie – so glad that Chester seems to be doing well – keep us posted. And congrats on the loss!

Indigal – your visit with the neighbors sounds so nice – so peaceful! And what a great opportunity to learn some homeopathy – please pass on anything interesting you learn.

Barb – I’m eager to hear the recipes reviews.

Schmoodle – Thanks for the pregnancy story! Things do happen for a reason for certain. Enjoy HP!

Cottage – I’m jealous! I would love to be able to shut down our AC but I’m in the wrong place for that. Enjoy the gorgeous day.

Ruth – so sorry about your knee. Hopefully the surgery will do the trick. Chronic pain is no good for anyone. In the meantime, enjoy a peaceful day.

Kara – six miles is amazing – and to like it to boot!! What an accomplishment.

Little Chick – good luck – it takes a saint to do what you do. I’m sure you’ll figure it out….but I’ll keep an eye on the news just in case….. 

Oceans and Stambler – welcome!!

Betty – you have my sympathies….packing is the worst. Try to get in some fun too today!

Kiko – great job on the 6 pounds!! Have a great day!

Pacergal – have a great day!

Me - I've got to get my tail in gear - heading to the PT and then another day of work. I really enjoyed going to my new gym last night. Amazing the difference that makes. I'll be heading there again tonight. Since the scale seems to be a bit stuck, I figure I should focus my energy on my workouts so I won't get discouraged.

Take care all!

tomandkara 07-12-2007 09:47 AM

Oceans, welcome, welcome, welcome! We love new friends!!!

Lisa, hope your meeting goes well. I miss getting dressed for things. That sounds bad. I do get dressed. Just not dressed UP. I wear clothes every day. Don't worry, guys!

Kitty, have a great evening! Maybe you could set some sort of miles-walked goal, like walk 20 miles in August or something like that. You probably do a good bit of walking anyway, so start off with a goal you know you'll reach and then increase it a little more the next month.

Off to check the next bit of threads!

Kara

tomandkara 07-12-2007 09:56 AM

Betty, isn't it amazing how much junk we amass? Every time we move we marvel at our collection!

Kiko, yea on the weight loss! Sorry your curriculum writing is becoming a chore. What kind of curricula are you compiling?

Pacer, have a good day at work!

Suzyq, who is Jillian Michaels?

Hey Schmoo! Glad the show was enjoyable. Doesn't sound like your dinner was all that bad - if the only indulgence was some butter, that will work its way out in due time. You could have done a lot worse!

Sary, hope the back feels better after your PT. Tom has back issues and I feel so helpless when he's in a bad spot. The only thing that has really helped him is improving his ab strength, religiously doing the exercises his therapist gave him, and the one time the PT on base happened to be a chiropractor.

Good night, ladies! I am hitting the sack...hard! I'm beat!!!

Kara

Kim_Star060404 07-12-2007 10:15 AM

Good Thursday morning, everyone! Only one work day left!!:D:D

Cottage: I'm so glad a calmer day is planned for you today! I did not envy all the running around you had to do yesterday at all! Have a great day!

Ruth: I know you need a relaxing day today as well! I'm very sorry about your knee and hope that the pain is minimal until your surgery! I'm astonished by all the activities you do with the pain now -- imagine how active you'll be when the surgery's done! We won't be able to keep up!

Kara: Running six miles?!?! That would be my dream workout. Not that I particularly enjoy running, but just being able to tell people that I did it! ;) WTG!

LC: Oh, those kiddos sound like they need some fresh air -- and so do you! I'm hoping that it will stop raining soon and you'll all get to go outside and run around. In the meantime, what about having a talent show? My mom used to have us put those on when we were stuck inside and they're SO much fun!

Weezle: I forgot to tell you congrats on fitting into those skinny jeans yesterday! And I know how you feel -- no sleep out in WTexas either! Oh well, at least I don't have a meeting with a buffet; I don't think I could do it!

indigal: Exercising feels so good once you get into -- I just had a hard time finding something I REALLY like to do on a daily basis. I know you can do it, and once you're there you'll wonder why you didn't do it before!

:welcome3: Oceans13: This place is great. I wouldn't call myself a "regular", but I do know that these ladies are some of the most inspirational people in the world! You're gonna love it here!

Betty: Won't you be glad when the moving is finally over? Are you finding it hard to stay SBeachy through this time? I know I did!

Kiko: Congrats on the 6 lbs in P1! And it sounds like yesterday was a great day for you and the family. How fun!

Pacer: Isn't it just a drag feeling like that? Hope your day looks up and TOM is nice to you this month!

Suzyq: Changing jobs is so stressful and I can definitely understand why your exercise is lagging. I hope things settle down quickly and you get back on the exercise train!

Schmoodle: Congrats on the capris! What a great feeling that must be! Enjoy HP today. I really want to see it, but with only one movie theater for 60+ miles each way (and only two screens), DH and I have decided to try to see it on Sunday.

Sarynit: I'll bet those workouts will have that scale moving in no time! It's great that you like your gym! I've found only one gym that I actually enjoyed going to and I went all the time!

ME: Well, sleep didn't come last night. DH "forgot" to do the dishes and I couldn't sleep for thinking about them. I ended up getting out of bed around 2 am to do them. Does that make me crazy?

I'm trying to talk DH into letting me paint the living room this weekend. The only reason I REALLY want to do it this weekend is that we borrowed a great ladder from his friend and he's coming to pick it up on Monday. Logical reason, right?

I haven't been doing too well SB-wise, but I haven't gained. I start with my trainer on Monday and she and I will be going over my daily menus to see what I can switch up. She did say that with the intensity of the workouts I'll need to consume more healthy carbs, but we'll have to wait and see!

Well, I hope everyone is having a great morning, afternoon, evening, whatever! Keep Beachin' away!

femmecreole 07-12-2007 10:29 AM

Been working since 4 and in a rush to get outside before it storms to do some weeding, so no time for personals today...
but wanted to tell Ruth I'm so sorry about your knee. I know you wish you could go ahead and have the operation NOW and get it over with.

Will try to check back later to catch up some.

little chick 07-12-2007 11:59 AM

Girls I just have to brag a little bit. I made cookies which I had been avoiding but the poor kids were ready for something sweet. I DID NOT EAT ONE BITE- NOT EVEN A LICK OF THE SPOON. Sorry I just had to brag.

Kim_Star060404 07-12-2007 12:09 PM

LC: Definitely something to brag about, definitely. WTG!

charolastra00 07-12-2007 12:49 PM

Does anyone know of a seed or way to cook brown rice where it comes out risotto-y? I've been CRAVING cream of mushroom soup but since the cream is out, I used to make really awesome mushroom risotto (not that I've had real risotto, so I don't know if the texture is right... but I really like it). It has more mushrooms than risotto but I don't know what alternate I could use to get a similar effect.

Oceans13 07-12-2007 12:55 PM

Thanks for the warm welcome!

How often and what type of exercise do you do?

ladybugnessa 07-12-2007 12:55 PM

well welcome oceans
ruth i'm sorry about your knee. pain sucks.
kitty i hear you about the exericse
lisa good luck with your meeting
kara congrats on finding the running bug.

i'm at work
i look cute
work is quiet
dentist yesterday fixed 2 teeth one upper right one lower left
i was very numb all over god bless happy air...
ate soup for dinner.

Kiko 07-12-2007 01:52 PM

LC WTG!! I am the cookie dough queen and am not sure I could have resisted that either. :) I am in a Phase 1 zone right now though, so maybe I could have. If only I had will power everyday!!

Kara It is math that I am working on- 5th grade level. As you can see I am really avoiding it! I am waiting to get Meg down for a nap to get started up again.

DH gets paid tomorrow, so I can restock the fridge and pantry with SBD goodies! I have done quite well considering what we had on hand. :)

I found this recipe...apparently if you want it, you are going to have to WORK for it..but it sounds yummy

charolastra00 07-12-2007 04:25 PM

Thanks femme! That looks tres yummy. And I LOVE brown rice! I didn't know it did the whole risotto thing- I was told by a lovely Italian grandmother that only Italian rice did it. :P I think I took her too seriously...

And in other news... I hate dealing with the medical field. I just spent over an hour trying to get an appointment for an allergist. Two hospitals later, I end up with in the allergy department trying to find a doctor taking new patients who is also on my insurance. Turns out there was only 2 of them- one who isn't anywhere near public transportation and one who only takes patients Tuesday afternoons! So I ended up with the one on Tuesday afternoons being assured up and down that she was on my insurance plan.

Go to the insurance site- she's not there. I'm so frustrated I could cry... and I'm covered in hives to boot (my medication decided to stop working on Monday and hasn't stopped the hives since). :( I hate to delegate it down to my mom, but I called her and she practically hang up with my in her rush to call the insurance company. What a pain in the butt.

femmecreole 07-12-2007 05:39 PM

You know, I just thought of something that might work instead of the brown rice risotto. I was just eating some leftovers from yesterday and thought you might want to try this.

Vidalia onion, medium, chopped fine (or any kind of onion)
2 cloves of garlic, pressed (or chopped fine)
1 pack of 8oz sliced fresh mushrooms
quinoa
2 cups of no fat chicken stock
olive oil
creole seasoning (or whatever dry seasoning you want to use)

I sauteed the onion, garlic and mushrooms in a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkled a little creole seasoning over that and sauteed it till the onions were clear.

Put 2 cups of the chicken stock and one cup of quinoa in a pot with a lid. Bring it up to a boil, then add all the stuff in the saute pan, along with some salt and pepper to taste, then lower the heat to the lowest setting and put the lid on and let simmer for about 15 minutes. Then fluff it with a fork.

It was really good yesterday and even better today after sitting in the fridge..It kind of tasted like a cross between mock oyster dressing and fried rice to me...and a bit creamy.

Lots faster than stirring rice for 45 minutes.

Femme That sounds yummy! I cannot wait to add something back in tomorrow- I don't know what it will be yet, though.

I have spent the large majority of my day planted on the couch working on this stuff. Three units down, two to go. I plan to complete one more this evening and the other in the morning.

I felt bad for my 5 year old, so I took a break and we baked a cake. I let her have free reign decorating- here is a picture of her creation. :chef: My dessert will be FF jello and cool whip though.

Gotta get dinner started.... I am trying a recipe in the forum, I will add my thoughts if it works!

She's adorable, Kiko! I taught fifth grade for two years before I moved to third grade. I love teaching and miss it, although it's worth staying home with the kids for now...most days!

Allie, sorry about your hives. They are no good. I once passed out from an allergic reaction because the hives itched so badly. I am not one to pass out - three completely natural births, the last one at home even, and it was hives that did me in. Hope you figure out the allergist situation quickly!

LC, good job with the cookie dough!

Gotta get the kids their breakfast. Have a good night!

Kiko, by the end of my day today, kids were not looking "cute" to me at all, but your Abigail has stolen my heart! She's so adorable! And what a great decorating job on the cake!

And don't ask about my day, it was worse than yesterday. I'm beat.
