So I was all happy today because it was nice out, so rather than pick up groceries on the way back from work, I figured I'd soak up the nice weather and walk home first, then in one direction to go to CVS, and a mile back the other direction to go to the grocery store. Just as I was crossing into Harvard Yard on the way to CVS, I totally wiped out and sprained my ankle. I don't fall in subtle places- I fall in places where 15 Harvard kids come running over (and probably a couple hundred people could see)! At least I didn't swear up a storm like last time (when I broke my ankle in October). I had a .75 mileish walk back to my apartment though, which was not pleasant. And have NO groceries in the house nor any clean clothes (tomorrow is a class day, so I have off work and that was going to be my laundry day). No fun.
Kara & Nessa, Both pix look great!
Welcome Nora & Suzyq!
I'm going to be MIA from my computer a few days. I'm off to care for an 89 year old friend for a few days, no computer acess for me there.
I have been dragging my feet about getting into regular exercise, I did pull out my yoga mat and fav. yoga book... THis weekend I'm going to start some kinda routine. thaaat's a HUGE step for me!
Charolastra, GEEZ. Is your last name Davis by chance? (My maiden name.) Possible we are related. I'm so sorry! Do you have anyone nearby who could bring you groceries or anything? Did you go to the doctor for the ankle?
Last weekend, the day after my brother's wedding, I was helping DH put the pool cover back on. I went up a couple of steps on the side of the deck to help, and was so focused on the cover that I took a step to the right.... only it was a step down. WHOOP there I went, grabbing the side of the pool as not to fall on my head, and wanged my elbow on the side. Nothing major, just a decent bruise and a good scrape, but still. Davis. (That's the word we use to replace swears when we do clumsy things.)
I hope your ankle heals quickly and you're not in too much pain. Take care of yourself!
Thanks Weezle and missmess! No, my name isn't Davis, but I am DEFINITELY the clumsy one in my family. My parents have their own sets of weird accidents (like if there is a puddle ANYWHERE in the vicinity, my dad will find it and fall and my mom once fell UP a flight of stairs and broke her pinky), but mine take the cake. I tend to fall alot because I think I walk more on the outside of my foot than I should. I'm hoping that's something that will solve itself as I lose weight since my ankles won't have to overcompensate for my thighs pushing themselves apart. Does that make sense? The more I weigh, the more often I fall- and often it's not even tripping over anything, just stepping the wrong way!
I'm super thankful for Trader Joes frozen fruit now. I never grew up with frozen fruit but I have a few bags in the freezer, and that was a total life saver.
Allie, hope you feel better soon! Rest up so you don't have more problems from overexerting yourself!
Kitty, have a lovely time with your friend! I have just recently started taking a yoga class and it is my favorite day of the week now.
Cat, I totally agree with you. There's no substitute for having self-control and eating the right kinds of foods. This fad will come and go like the others. There will always be people out there trying everything they can so they don't have to actually buckle down and change the behavior that made them unhealthy in the first place. Slow and steady wins the race. It might not be easy, but we're on the right track.
