Default And now on into wave 2...

Hi folks,

Well I made it through wave 1 and started wave 2 yesterday. Woo hoo! It was nice to sit down to dinner with a glass of wine. My weight loss has been slow recently - too many birthdays in my family, causing off plan behaviour! I was down at my TOPS meeting yesterday, but not by much. I usually count Friday mornings as official weigh-in but didn't sleep well last night and forgot to weigh this morning!

With all the birthdays I thought about extending my wave 1, then decided to see how staying on plan with wave 2 does me, since it's less restrictive. If I don't make my 155 goal by Nov 10, then I think I'll hop back onto wave 1 at that point for 10 days, and re-evaluate. I really want this to be a lifestyle thing and by staying on wave 1 (and cheating with birthday cupcakes) I'm not doing that.

So onto wave 2 and looking forward to fruit servings (I didn't get them in yesterday but will today). I think going without on wave 1 has made me look elsewhere for snacks too, which is a good thing. I tend to overdo it on the fruit and underdo the veggies. I can also harvest the carrots in the garden now...

I also did a sneaky number on the kids yesterday - I usually make spaghetti sauce (which we had for supper - along with a salad and whole grain spaghetti) with a whole pile of veggies that my two youngest pick out and complain about. Yesterday I put the veggies in before putting the tomato sauce in the blender (I cook my own sauce and blend it after cooking) so they didn't know they were eating peppers, mushrooms and zucchini. No complaints, and all was eaten. I will have to continue doing that. Nothing gets taken out, it's just hidden.

How is everyone else doing?

Jax

I find Wave 2 much more practical.

I'm doing good--I had a setback with the exercise this week, I pulled a muscle on Tues and ever since my leg has been like OUCH every time I take a step (or even get out of the car) which SUCKS!

Today it feels better enough to take a swim at the Y so when I get there I'll brave the scales.....hopefully my exercise debacle hasn't cost me too much.

Foodwise I've been doing so good -- went out to Italian last night and ordered chicken in wine sauce and mushrooms and salad, was not even tempted by the bread, pasta, b-day cake or any of the rest of it! I'm kind of on a roll with the eating part and used to bypassing the white-bread/white-sugar stuff....I def used to eat all of the above and more at this particular restaurant!

Here's my expierences... I've done Wave 1 twice. I can usually make it through Wave 1, but then I go nuts after 10 days. I start eating everything in sight.

This time, I started w/Wave 2. I knew the weight loss would be slower, but I'm okay w/that. I've lost 10 pounds over the past month on Wave 2 alone. I may have lost a few more pounds, but I won't count that until Monday hits. My official weigh in day.

I work better on Wave 2, because I allow the fruit to be my dessert. Also, I do have a "lax eating day". That is Saturday. I try to eat well for breakfast and lunch... but I allow dinner to be whatever I want, and I allow a dessert too. This is not something that has worked in the past for me... but this time around it IS working. I look forward to my Saturday nights, and it helps me stay on plan the rest of the week.

Overall, I'm making better food choices. I hope you find success on Wave 2 also. While the weight loss may be slower, it still does work. Oh, and I probably eat more fruit than veggies too... but my old lifestyle, I ate more cookies than anything else!

Kate - sorry to hear about the pulled muscle. Take care of it.

I tried one of the wraps for lunch - don't have low-carb tortillas but they are whole grain. I couldn't fit everything in the Sonoma book into my tortilla though. It ended up being more like 1 cup greens (maybe closer to 1.5), 1/2 cup veggies and 1/2 can tuna. Even that was hard to roll up in a 10" tortilla. It was yummy and filling though. I had a pear for dessert - yay for fruit.

luvthelighthouse - I'm not to worried about slower loss, as long as I see movement. I wasn't thinking of going back to wave 1 for faster loss, but if I'm not sticking to it. Enjoy your Saturady dessert!

Have a good weekend everyone,
Jax

I had a couple really stressful days at work and got a little off track. I didn't go on a sugar binge but wasn't exactly eating well balanced meals-Kashi crackers and cheese with wine for dinner for example. I did sit down and plan out some meals today and am going grocery shopping and will get back on task. I'm planning on making that white bean and spelt salad tonight for dinner. I've never had spelt so I hope I like it. Has anyone else made it before?

I have a report on the spelt. It took about an hour to cook so this is not a quick dish. It has a chewy texture and a nutty taste. The salad was very good. I used mozarella as my protein source but I think any of the recommendations in the recipe would have worked well. This will make nice left overs for a few days too.

Glad to hear the spelt worked out well, Petra. I will have to try that. The only grain I have found that I don't like on its own is quinoa. I've tried it a couple of times but just haven't enjoyed it.

We're busy in our kitchen this weekend (putting in a new window, countertop) so I haven't done too much cooking. I adapted the tacos into more sonoma-friendly - more salad, less cheese, and that worked yesterday. I'm enjoying trying out new wines! We always drank the same ones before but are being more adventurous right now. Part of that is that we don't have any homemade ones because we've not made anything since moving here a year ago.

The computer will be off again today so have a good day everyone,
Jax
