...To the November exercise thread! We're trying to make exercise a habit, give ourselves some accountability, and get healthier in the process!
In this thread, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or housework! Early in the month (or before it starts) set your own goal! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away.
We're also tracking how many minutes we have exercised as a group! To date, we have exercised over 150,000 minutes! Here's the monthly breakdown:
TOTAL: 160,643 minutes
We blew past our 100K goal... how far will we get??? Help us go further, and get fitter in the process!
Please first post your goals and then add your minutes (for yourself and the group) and get some support and accountability!
If you want to join us during the month -- GREAT! Just let us know how many minutes you want to exercise in what's left of the month!
Finally, if you're new to this, pay attention to how to add your minutes to the group... people get confused if they can't easily see our new total. I recommend showing the previous total, then your minutes, then the new total (which should be the sum of the other 2 numbers). For example, if the group had don 500 minutes already and you did 30, here's what you would do:
I'll start! It looks like I'm going to blow past my 1000 min goal in October, thanks to upping my weights with sessions with my trainer and my weekly yoga class. I know November will be a tough month though... I think I will set a goal of 1200 minutes, which works out to 40 min/day (I like round numbers)! And, if I don't make it, well... but let's not think like that!
BTW, I know that when I write the titles to these threads, I am using phrases that don't work for our friends in the southern hemisphere ("Spring into exercise in May") and even for our non-Americans! (this month's title being a great example, as it focuses on the US Thanksgiving tradition). I have gone back and forth about whether that's appropriate, and given that so many of you are NOT from the US and such, I wanted to ask whether you thought that was appropriate or not. I'm sure I can come up with something else! You can pm me if you like!!!
This will be my first full month on this thread. I am going to go with 750. That is 30 mins for 25 out of 30 days this month. I definately think that is doable & hopefully I will blow it away. It will give me a feel for what I can accomplish given a full month so I can better challenge myself in future months.
Oooo, this might be a tough month. With starting this new job and already knowing that the hours will be long, I'm not sure how well I'll do. I'm thinking 1000 or 1200, so I guess the logical number is 1100. I've started this new trend of actually MAKING my exercise goal, so I don't wanna set it too high to reach. I know the job will be physical, but I'll need to keep up with some aerobics and more strength building than the job will provide.
OK then, 1100 it is for November - an average of 36 minutes a day. Yeah, I can do that.
I am going to make my October goal of 1500 even with not having the pool open and shorter lunch hours due to overtime... but the overtime might continue so I am going to set the goal again at 1500 minutes.
This will be my first month doing this so I want to start relatively small with the hopes of passing the goal So I'd like to set my first goal for 500 minutes.
i'd like to start on this thread too! for november, i'll try to get 1,000 minutes in. that's about 45 minutes a day, 6 days a week. should be doable considering that my water aerobics class meets 5 days a week and is 45 minutes. anyway, it'll help me get my butt to the pool for class!! lori
Argh, I don't think I'm going to make my Oct goal and I'm so bummed about that. I can't make up my mind if I should set it a little lower so that I don't discourage myself or keep it the same to try again.
Hey, don't be discouraged because you didn't make it... the important thing is you SET one and went for it! Of course yes, we all like to make it. But you still did great and are doing a whole lot more than the vast majority of people!
Last month I was well on my way to reaching my 1500 minutes goal, but then I got sick and there is no way I will do it now. So I am making my November goal 1500 minutes and this time if I stay well I know I will make it.
