I have looked, asked people I know and I cant find any information about this.
Baking a potato in the oven but peeling the skin (yuck) after its done. Would the potato still be considered high in calories even if peeled? I read somewhere that most of the calories in the baked potato is in the skin.
Hmm the amount of claories in a potato depend on the size of the potato. A small potato about 5.5 oz has about 100 calories. It's ussualy the toppings and preparation that kill it.
To get mroe precise information checkout www.calorieking.com or calorielab.com
hope that helps.
Please, if you are going to eat a baked potato-eat the skin. The whole purpose of a veggie is the nutrients and the fiber content-both of which are in the skin of a potato!!!
Jewelz? Have you tried fitday.com? It tracks calories for you. Lot's of people buy a little book with calorie counts in, then keep track in a notebook. Either way is very effective.
The potatoes on my bag says calories: 100 per potato. I think I got confussed with what I had read about the skin. The words flesh and peel. That is what was confusing me and my husband which was what. The flesh is the inside of the potato? lol Its ok I was born like this.
Susan, I had to re-edit a potato cause those potatoes on there the calories aint right and the nutrients.
I have never been able to eat the skin of a potato since I can remember. The only additives I really use is a table spoon of butter which is 60 cals. Im just glad I dont care for the cheese, ect for toppings.
Btw red- loved those websites! I bookmarked them so I can have them when I need information.
I tried to look it up on Calorie King for you, but it has the calorie count listed as the same with or without the skin. Hmmm...weird. Calorie king is usually accurate. I really don't think the difference is much though. Like the other said, the skin is the most healthy part, and I would bet it's also really low in calories.
Have you ever tried baking them where the skin is really crispy? You can brush it with salt and olive oil. YUMMY!!! I used to not like the skin until I tried that. Oh my goodness. It's heaven! lol
I havent tried them crispy.. though it does sound "very" good. Well I couldnt hardly stomach it but I think I got about 1/4 of the skin down me. Even though it makes me feel yucky! lol I got to thinking about the vitamins and I take a water pill about once a week so I really need all the nutrients I can get.
Expecially, potassium. So I am trying. I was just so worried that there was more calories in the skin.
I have olive oil but I have never used it on my foods I use it for a hot oil treatment for my hair.. Though I think I'll try that on my potato skin! Maybe if it worked for you it will work for me too.
lol well I got frustrated at buying hot oil treaments and the prices are getting higher by the year. My mother is really big into the "natural stuff" she also told me about this. My hair is baby fine, and stays dull.
Anyways, I went online looking for "natural" hot oil treatments came across this site about olive oil being a natural way to shine up your hair. As I got on farther down the page it showed how many oz. I need for long/short hair. Mine is long so I use around 2-3 oz. So I microwaved it (30-40 seconds depending on settings and also make sure its not hot to the point its gonna burn your head as they also cautioned) and went into my shower and applied it. Leave it in for 30 minutes to a hour (I leave it in for 30 minutes). Also, leave a hot towel on your head too if possible cause it helps keep the oil warm. Use shampoo to wash the remains out. It has a awsome shine afterwards. If you use like hairspray/gel it will cover up the light smell of the oil. I have done this method for almost 8 months now and each time Im very pleased to see my shine.
Btw, to be safe I'd look it up online to make sure Im right with the measurements. I didnt keep the website but if you cant find the information let me know cause I will find it for you.
I take them because I retain fluids. I used to have high blood pressure and my doctor at the time was a ol' timer. So he believed that water was the cause of hbp. Now since Ive lost weight I dont have hbp. Even though my salt intake isnt no more then recommended daily (think its 2 tsp a day? If I heard that right on tv). Matter of fact, I havent used much salt in almost two weeks since ive been using seasoned lemon pepper to help brighten up the taste in my meats and I dont drink pop no more since it is loaded with sodium (5 months free of the addiction lol). Ill dash a side dish lightly but other then that Im still experiencing swelling in my hands, feet, and face. Now my bp I think runs pretty low for my age but maybe Im wrong. But, that is why.
Ashamed to say but I should be using cucumbers, water melon, or such things to get relief from the retention. Which Im really thinking hard going that route.
Jewelz76? .... the thread TMunday has started (I think it's called under-eaters anonymous) has lots of fabulous information about counting calories and how to keep track. Want to have a look? I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Thank you, Susan. I read it and really enjoyed the great information there!.
Im not sure if that is my problem though.. cause Ive got new problem on my hands and dont know where or what happened. My Fitday.com is saying Im averaging -3 pounds per week. Im 141 pounds. I have had to think about posting this, I guess Im really worried what Im doing wrong. I threw my water pills down the toilet.. and cut my excerciseing in half sincer yesterday. I dont know what else I could be doing wrong. So I hope that improves it.
