Good morning! I'm back from the gym and looking forward to getting things back to normal around the house. All the goodies are GONE and the decorations get put away today. My gym continues to be mega-crowded with the New Year's resolutioners. All the cardio equipment has been in continual use - even during yesterday's football game, which is unheard of here in Pittsburgh! So I did a great back workout instead. Funny how just switching around the handles and grips on the equipment - like the lat pulldown and seated cable row - can completely change a workout.
How's everyone doing? Ready to make 2005 your year?
I had an awesome upper body workout yesterday. Feels good today. Reminds me of my posture I also tried the ab boot camp that's posted by tidypoo on the "favorite exercise" thread. Yeow! If I could do more than about 4 reps, it'd probably be great.
Today is my delightful Monday off and everyone else has gone back to school and work. Ah! And it's legs day.
I had a couple questions about exercises that I stuck in at the end of the weekly thread. Maybe I should have asked in another thread? Somebody point me in the right direction? I found lots of good info about pull-ups by reading past posts but I still wanted to know about the backward motion for Beth Horns. Thanks in advance.
The light bulb moment was this ... When they tell you to rest between sets ... they mean stop doing it for a few minutes! Do you know how much more I could leg press when I stopped in between

Reason: found one answer and had a light bulb moment
So, here we are - a new year! And a very monumental one for me. Friday is my 60th birthday! And in just 15 weeks, we're going on a long-awaited trip to England. Both those things are hanging out there as motivation for me. (And I just realized I forgot my gym bag. Called DH and luckily, he's going by here on some errand or another and will drop it by, so no backtracking after work.) It's an upper body day which I enjoy. Also went by the grocery on the way to work and stocked up my work food supply so no excuses. Since the holidays are over, hopefully the work food will stop!
Our house is also free of decorations and tempting food. I'll go to the grocery for home tonight or tomorrow, and we'll be eating well again. Not that the leftovers from the weekend aren't good
Hope the gym is not too crowded tonight. It's smallish and family owned, so doesn't hold out the reduced rates like the big chain in the next town.
Happy birthday coming up Pat!!! Sounds like the upcoming trip is going to be great. Will you be touring or visiting people?
Well, back at work and as I thought, it is much harder to stick to an eating plan at work than at home. When I am at home, I can find something interesting to do, or take a nap if I'm tired. Here I am stuck doing what has to be done, whether I like it or not, and have to keep my eyelids propped open, no matter how tired. Was good until late afternoon, when my 4 am wakeup started wearing me down, and the fig newtons sitting in a basket on the conference room table just called my name. I was able to stop at 4...but that is 4 more than I wanted. And now I am worried about what will happen when I get home. I need to stick my retainers in as soon as I walk in the door, get into bed with a book, and veg out. Mainly, have got to stay away from the kitchen.
This morning used the treadmill, did lower body floor exercises. Tomorrow is upper body with the trainer.
How does one spell relief? ROUTINE!! I am soooo happy to be back in a boring routine you cannot imagine...
SusanB -- Poor girl you didn't know you were suppose to rest between sets! OMG you must have been tired! I'm not sure what Beth Horns are I can't help you there... It was a heavenly Monday here too, I was ALONE, ahhhhh.... ....
WaterRat -- Happy Birthday to You Girl!
I had a very decent workout this morning did chest and a 40 minute jog... Felt awesome... Had lunch with a g/f and I had poached salmon on a bed or salad... it was yummy!! How I missed salads in the last few weeks...
I'm with you Ilene. DH and I were shopping in Anchorage on Friday and ended up eating at Nordstrom's cafe - I had an AWESOME Chinese chicken salad - all kinds of lettuce, and various goodies, including some mandarin orange slices. Inspired me to make some salads at home over the weekend. Somehow, no one raves about your "traditional Christmas salad."
I will not even mention how bad I've been the past two weeks - because the past is in the past and now I'm back on track. Food and workout were spot-on today, despite terrible carb cravings and being exhausted...
Had a great trip home to Michigan for the holidays - the weather cooperated with my driving days, which was nice.
My goal for 2005 is to meet my ultimate weight goal for once and for all. I'll be doing daily cardio to help me accomplish it - I've been resistant to doing it, but now am convinced that it's my only option. I guess you have to reach that point in order to make yourself do something you don't really want to...
Well, time to hit the hay - need to get caught up on some much needed sleep.
Cindy
Ohhhhhh... I'm so embarrassed. Can I come back? Somewhere I lost my way and want to get back to being a hottie with alotta muscle.
I'm going to they gym tomorrow to get back to work but I feel like a TOTAL poser. I mean, back in january? You all know that they gym is going to be full of people just like me who goofed off while you were always there and then POOF they make resolutions in January and POOF gone by March 1. Oh girls, don't hate me for being one of "those" people.
Again a happy new year to all of you. I am not back into routine because the kids still have 1 week of holiday. However, as per my new years resolution I did keep to my cardio routine yesterday and today. I cannot lift or do the rowing machine because of a tennis elbow that I want to heal so today I did 25 mins jogging in place, 5 mins rowing (underhand grip) and 35 mins stationary bike.
I want to keep you all posted as a way to keep motivated. I always find it very inspirational to read what the others have done and know that I am not the only madwoman on the planet into this. Most people in my surroundings find more than 1 hour excercise per week extreme, but I cannot get the body I want with that amount. Also, to keep up the motivation I know that I have to do it every day, for else it is too easy to shove it to the next day, every day.
I have been looking into buying a treadmill but they seem to be awfully expensive, so I just jog in place and that seems to work out well. According to my heartrrate monitor, jogging in place is about the same intensity as rowing, more intense than cycling.
Now to get back to the good food routine, but that will take a bit longer, probabely untill next week.
Good Morning LWL!
Hey there Jessica Welcome back! All future and current hotties welcome! Next time you lose your way, at least try staying here, and maybe we can help you find the path or wagon a little faster Good to see you again.
And Cindy Nice to see you back from your travels. I just glanced at your ticker and realized what a long way you've come. But, yup, sometimes to finish the job, you just have to bite the bullet and DO IT. 100% consistency, 100% effort and you'll get there. It's tantalizingly close for you now
I've been in computer $%^ for the last few days! I got a new computer and had to re-enter passwords for everything. I accidently typed my password incorrectly about 15 times into this site, and the server banned me . After a day of brainstorming, the techies finally found a way to "unban" me, so I' baaaaack!
Yesterday was Leg day. I had a great workout, but I think I'm finally going to take at least a week off legs and try to let this knee/ hamstring injury heal. Sob. I would like to walk normally again at some point Chest today.
Jessica -- At least you are BACK!! That's what counts... Just don't stop the gym on March 1st, or we'll be here pushing you back in there kicking and screaming!!
Cindy -- nice to see you again...
Rabbit -- You're absolutely right, you must keep posting... Instead of jogging in place have you tried jogging outside? Jogging in place would be a good warm up to going out...
Mel -- You better get healed up there girl! I see your ticker is saying you are 1 # below your goal ... Dang!!! Lucky you!!
I'm off to the gym myself in a few minutes... Today is LEGS ....I just had my oatmeal and eggwhites, now I'm going to pop my eyes in and I'm off.... TTFN...
Morning Everyone! I'm a little disappointed in my lower body today. My arms still hurt from Sunday but my legs? ... Just my butt's a bit stiff. I thought I was doing good. I was nice and wobbly when I finished. Maybe that's my legs way of telling me they want the elliptical today. Ew cardio.
For the third night in a row I got back out of bed to grab something horrible and salty to eat. But then I reread the chapter in my book about assessing hunger (or what I percieve as hunger) I'll work harder on that today.
Everybody post! Just reading a couple of posts always makes me more determined to do something.
Whew! Catching up from being off work for two weeks is HARD WORK!!! I have cleaned my house of old food (luckily there were no treats there) and am shopping tonight to get the good stuff.
Did legs yesterday - all time high on the leg press #270, plus I got in my squats, hamstring curls and calf raises. I was at the gym with the "Guy" and he spotted me for a set of bench presses so my chest and biceps are also sore. He doesn't lift heavy - he lifts light with a lot of reps because he wants to TONE! Man, I'm gonna have to sit him down and explain to him why that is just B.S. We each think the other is crazy when it comes to weight lifting but I must admit, he looks cute in his workout gear.
Oh well, got to get to the grind.
Wassup Goddess? Glad to see you in this part of the world - keep it going, hottie, we are all here with you.
Hi all. Today is cardio for me (Ew, too! Does everyone hate cardio?)
But it has rained for many days and nights here and it's so sopping and slimy wet out there, I don't want to face it! We moved to New Mexico from Oregon and this looks like Oregon! Seriously, with the clay soil, it's actually dangerous for me to go out slipping around on the hills. Fortunately, we don't need to leave the house...
I guess I'll do some kitchen dancing with the dogs or pull out an old Firm tape. Reading here is great inspiration! Let's do this thing!
Another pound gone!!!! Yipee! Trainer weighed and measured me today. I've lost 1 1/2 inches in my waist (what a waste!(punning)--it's tiny to begin with--at least compared to my bottom) and 1 inch in my hips (hip-hip horray!!!--my biggest baddest area). I am feeling so good about it. She also said I need to be more consistent about my calories. Somedays I have 1100 intake, others 1600. She thinks I should stay consistent, about 1400 cals, with all the cardio I am doing. Seems funny to have to force myself to eat more than I want. What do you all do cal-wise? Do you gauge cals at all?
Today was upper body. We are upping the weights. The trainer is really careful about doing this...says better to be slow and steady then end up hurting myself. Since I have a tendency to overdo...she is probably right.
Pat, only 3.5 days til your birthday. Happy pre-3 bd. Do you have big plans?
Rabbit...how about low level jumping jacks for variety with the jogging in place? My sister used to jog in place all the time...that was her time for calling people. She would be talking to us and huffing and puffing. She like multi-tasking, and it kept her from getting bored.
