Default Weekly Chat 7/25 - 7/31

Hi ladies!

Another week...summer is just flying by! I only have one more week until I move - yikes! The good part in that is that it keeps me busy which means less time for eating and lots of moving around with packing. Hehe.

Here's a question I have....I went to a friend's house a few days ago and weighed myself on her scale. It's a "traditional" scale...with the needle and dial. On her scale, I weighed nearly 5 lbs less than I do at home! I have a digital scale at home and I have wondered if maybe it was weighing me a little higher than I should be, but then I thought maybe I just really DID weigh that much! Anyways, she said she thinks her scale is fairly accurate. So my question is....should I adjust my weight as far as how I'm recording it (for ex, according to her scale I really weigh 174!) or do I stick with what I started with and assume that a loss will still be a loss on my scale?

I think it's best to stick to one scale if you can. That way the number of pounds you're losing is concrete, even if your exact weight may not be. Does that make sense? You know how much your losing, but maybe not what you weigh. Whenever I go to the doctor, I consider that the REAL measurement of my weight because I'm almost positive those scales are correct.

I agree with Jenicra, the scale at the gym always says I weigh a little less than the one I have at home but I still use my home scale for my weekly WI.

Thanks....I agree on keeping things consistent. At least as an ego boost, when I see the number on my scale, I can think to myself that it is probably a few pounds lighter! Yahoo!

Hi everyone. I'm trying my best to get my butt to gym but stress is really getting to me. Its this endless cycle of not feeling like I should use 1.5 hours at the gym because I could use it for work, grad school, or planning my wedding. But then I feel crappy cause I don't work out. Ugh.. I'll get there.. I hope.

Tonic! I can totally identify with you! I feel like crap lately, but I can't convince myself that I can change that by exercising instead of loafing. What's our problem!! I hope you get to the gym soon!

Tonic - I know what you mean about trying to justify one thing over the other! They're all important! I've been bicycling outside so I can say that I'm exercising AND tanning.

I feel like crap. I just got back from a little weekend trip, it was a good time. I didn't get any excersize though, and I think that is mainly why I feel like crap. I am looking forward to getting in some excersize tonight...help relieve some stress and get back on track.

Tonic-- I totally empathize and sympathize.

But I've been excersising in some form (Gym Thursday, Sunday, softball last night) for the past few days. It totally sucks to actually get yourself to get there, but I feel soooo much better once I do. So I am going to try not to "not go". After last night's softball game, I NEED to go. I am sooo darned sore. I haven't run in some time (not to mention being 3-4 last night with a grounder that got me at first).

If you get there and even just do 1/2 hour, you'll feel 10 times better despite the soreness!

Welcome Megan! I think you've found the right place. Its a great group in here. We've been a little slower than usual because of the summer, but supportive none the less.

I am having a hard time getting off the couch. At least I know why... I'm PMS-y and I just got the complete Sex and the City box set a week ago. At least when I veg out watching that show I'm not as likely to snack the whole night. Something about watching size 2 women in amazing shoes I guess. It does make me long for a dirty martini in my PJ's though.

My daily walking has at least stayed constant. I have the tendency to start driving to work when I'm not feeling up to speed. I'll blame the walking on Sex and the City as well. If those girls can walk 20 blocks in 3 inch heels on a regular basis then I can at least walk to work and back every day. Enough blabbing and wishing. Just tell me to deal with it, after all, I am just a South Dakota Chick.

Have a great day everyone!

hey guys -

i feel so welcome, thank you!!! i wanted to ask you guys what your opinion is on something. i've been working out on the treadmill, doing the weight loss program, which is walking briskly at different inclines throughout the program.

do you think that it's bad that i hold on to the sides of the treadmill when i walk? when i get up to higher inclines, i feel kind of off balance, so i hold on to the sides. i think it would probably be better for my legs if i didn't hold on, but i can't help it! it still feels like a great workout, though.

the reason i ask is because i always read that it's better exercise to not hold on on the elliptical or the stairmaster, so i figure the same applies to the treadmill.

any thoughts?

Hello girls! I am back. Well, I guess I've been here for the past couple of weeks, but I haven't posted much. I guess I've been down in the dumps because of my lack of will-power to stop eating and start moving. But after a near emotional break down yesterday I stopped to think about life and I'm back in the running!

I set new motivation for myself. In my budgeting, I'm allowed a certain ammount of money for my monthly "allowance". When I reach the goal of being able to fit in a skirt that I reall miss wearing (it will be about 140 - 135) then I can go out and buy new clothes. By that point I should be able to buy a new wardrobe because it has taken me so long!!! Anyway. I've accumulated quite a lot of money and it's just sitting there. You'd think that would be motivation enough for me to get on in so I can buy new clothes. But, nooo. So, I decided that I would set a goal over 2-3 months and if I missed my goal, then any money I earned during that time I will lose as well as $10 per lb I'm over. That could add up to over $100 real fast!!! I don't want to loose that kind of money. I appologize for my ramblings and any confusion I caused, but here I am back in the saddle. I'm sure I won't meet my Labor Day goal, but at least I can start getting closer!

I hope you all are well!
