Hi there, new here..this is my first post..I was so happy to see WLS forum..ok here's the deal... I had Lap RNY sept 14 2001, lost a nice 75lbs by feb 02..and then I got prego (prev was infertile so it was a blessing) docs, told me to graze my weight on..and I listened...60lbs worth...so I had my miracle angel boy...lost 30ishlbs..and now I am kinda stuck at 200...looking for a clean 150 for a true 100lb loss...I am doing WW now... (it seems the grazing stretched out my pouch just enough for me to over eat again! argh) my fault I take full responsablility for this STUPID action however I was just wondering if I am alone.. any other regainers out there??? any good advice..I was given a tool and I used it well and I kinda feel like I was gipped a bit..but I was terrified of losing my baby if I didn't gain enough weight..btw he ended up being HUGE 10lb 5oz..and 2 weeks late.. so much for "if you don't gain enough weight he will be premature and too small" well anyhow just thought I would toss this out into the cosmos and see what bounces back.. thanks for your time..
Zax, cann't help you with the regain, but there are a few, that will jump in there to give you suggestions. Congradulations on the BIG boy! I have read several others that joined WW for regain weight so you seem to be on the right track. Keep your spirts up, and you will get back on track.
ZAX: I have not had surgery, but I feel very qualified to answer your question because I live it through my DH ole Alvin.
No you are not alone. The first doctors appointment with the surgeon we went to we met a man who had had the surgery and was having it again because of all of the reason you state. Well, he didn't get pregnant, just stretched his pouch and gained a lot of the weight back. Of course ole Alvin says that will never happen to him!
Now here it is two years post op for him, and although he has not gained any weight back, he has not lost anything in well over a year. I am totally convinced his pouch has stretched way out of shape, because even though he do not eat as much as he did befor surgery, he still eats much much more that most everyone here says they eat. He does work out every day and does watch what he eats, but he has never had the dumping thing, so he eats way too many carbs and sweets. But having said all that, he is so much better off than he was before he had the surgery.
So what I am trying to say, is that you are not alone, but don't use that as an excuse, continue to do all the things you know to do, and keep comming here and we will keep you on the straight and narrow.
And it you drop out of sight we will send out a search party and bring you back!
I guess you could count me as a re-gainer. I had a gastric segmentation 15 years ago at the age of 20. With no follow up and few instructions, I managed to lose about 50 pounds in about 4 months. Then it stopped completely, although I felt I was still eating the same. Over the past 15 years, I have lost and regained that same 50 pounds probably 4 or 5 times. Today, I weight exactly the same as I did the day I had my surgery. I've faced some other complications, such as vomiting a lot, which has led to me having to have my 8 teeth across the front crowned from decay in the back as well as lots of stomach problems (see my post below about recent endoscopy and balloon dilation procedure). If this doesn't improve my vomiting, I'll be seeing a surgeon about having the band taken off. I'm also doing WW on line right now and trying to convince my husband to fork over the $$ to join a gym. I take responsiblity for my part of the failure of my surgery, but I also feel like my surgeon failed me in many areas. Congratulations on your baby and good luck with the WW.
ggeeezzzz.. we all feel your pain, darlin. the outlet naturally stretches out over time, no matter what we do. the problem is that, for whatever reason, some outlets stretch out more than others. some folks help it along and others don't. some docs measure very carefull so that the outlet is actually the size it's supposed to be, and other docs just eyeball it and hope for the best.
sooo do what you have to do to get back. there's a clinical trial going on in nj in which some saline is injected into the base of the outlet, and scar tissue forms. it permanently fills in the outlet so that it's tighter and food is retained more.
it's still experimental, but the results have been pretty good. folks who were steadily regaining are now losing again - slowly, but that's just fine.
Thank so much for your replies! I am determined to be a healthy mama for my baby boy..I quit smoking 2 months ago and I am not looking back..tomorrow is my first weigh in for WW and I am determined to reach my goal..Like I said I do take total responsibility for the regain..I just needed to know if I was alone.. nice to know I am not.. and don't worry I am not going anywhere! I will keep ya'll posted on my progress.. (HUGS)
Goodness me...how are you coping...everything at one time...you're courageous!
Best of luck for tomorrow's weigh in. You are absolutely not alone in this...looking forward to your next post!

Good Luck to you zaxmama! If I was trying to quit smoking the same time I was trying to lose weight I would go nuts! I quit 3 years ago, it isnt easy, but then neither is losing weight......
Hi, I tried everything. But what it eventually came down to for me was being ready to quit. I must have quit like 30 times before finally being successful at it! I tried the gums, going cold turkey, tapering down, lol--I would get down to like 1 cig a day and then be right back up to a pack the next day! Thought I would never quit. One day I had just had enough, I told myself I was done and I just stopped. Cold turkey finally worked for me. It was the hardest thing I have ever done--before now. I think losing weight has passed that right by.....

I can feel for you, that's for sure. I had a stomach stapling in 1980, and initially lost about 80 pounds. I looked and felt great. Over the years, before we had kids, I had to exercise my butt off to keep my weight down, but was able to do it. After 4 children, and much weight gain, the only tips I can offer are watch the fat and carb intake, and exercise as much as possible. I wish you very good luck getting back on track, and hope you have great success.
