Default New to South Beach Diet...

I just started South Beach Diet this Sunday and am STARVING! It's really hard for me to keep up with this diet because I am away at school and am limited to the cafeteria food, or cooking at my boyfriends. Does anyone have any advice for me to make me not so hungry and get a little more energy? Maybe its impossible... HELP

AmandaKate, since you have access to a kitchen you should be able to find a few snacks that are portable to get you through the day. Maybe hard cooked eggs? Low fat ham or turkey wrapped around a cheese stick? Make sure you are eating a breakfast that can get you through the first part of the day, and that you are eating your 2 snacks. If you are hungry, just eat more of what you have access to that is acceptable, if that makes any sense.

I'm sure some of the other Chicks will have great advice for you! Good luck!

Amanda, welcome to the Beach! Franny is right... pack up a lot of little things you can snack on. It's alright to eat... as long as you're eating the right things!

I had bought a pack of that laughing cow cheese..and it was pretty tastey, had never had it before. That smeared on some celery sticks, or you could just bag up some celery, or cucumbers, with some nuts.

Good Luck!

Default New to the beach

Hi everyone. I am new to this diet. My uncle told me about it. I just stated yesterday. I haven't hit the craving yet but I am sure it will come.
I had an omelet this morning w/ tomato, halapenoes, and cheese. It was actually pretty good. I am not a big egg fan but with all the other stuff I will get through it. Any support is greatly appreciated.

Good luck.

Tipper, welcome to the Beach!
We do the same with omelets. We also throw in red peppers, onions, mushrooms...

Tipper, I dont much like eggs either, and so it can be a bit limiting. I have the odd omlette and also poach an egg sometimes.
AmandaKate, I can understand you being hungery if you are just starting, but people are right - you dont have to restrict the amount you eat so long as you are eating the right things. I find that having cooked chicken around helps, and the other day I took a tin of tuna in my bag and had that at lunch time.
Good luck to both of you. I just started 10 days ago and am nearly finished on phase one, although I have had the odd wobble off it (notably when out to supper at a friend's house last weekend, and tonight I have guests so may have wine, and maybe some fruit). I am more in this for the slow burn than the quick fix though, and it is a very healthy plan.
I was thinking today how amazing it is that I am not craving carbs. Really, honestly, not craving them. How cool is that?! I was wanting food earlier, but I knew that some ham and hoummas would do me, and it did. I would like maybe to have a double choc chip muffin and a full fat latte, but, hey - I would like a lot of things, and one of them is shifting a bit of weight. On previous diets I have given in to the Starbucks monster, but this time I just think 'ok, I can wait'.
So the cravings do subside, is what I am saying.

Welcome to the Beach, Tipper. I reach my Plimsoll line with eggs too. However, throwing in veggies and even some meat really helps.

Thanks for the info. I know it will get easier as I go on. I am actually looking forward to my salad for lunch.
How much weight have you guys lost in phase 1?

Tipper, check out the other threads: "How Are You Doing On South Beach?" and "First Week Weigh-ins" or post a separate thread.

Tipper, you shouldn't allow yourself to get hungry. Hunger leads to too much temptation. Make sure you are eating enough protein and good fats at your meals.
