With the Olympics underway in Paris, this a great time to reinvigorate our inner athletes and meet our exercise goals.
State your exercise goal and track it throughout the month with this supportive group of fellow exercisers. We'll compile our workout goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.
This thread is for fitness and exercise goals. For other weight loss goals, be sure to see our sister thread: August Weight Loss Challenge

I am considering getting a Fitbit thinking it might help with my weight loss-maintenance. I don't officially exercise but I do a lot around the house and yard and try to stay busy when not working. I have read that 10,000 steps a day is basically 5 miles. That would mean burning about 500 calories a day when I reach that amount. I do track my calories so I think this might keep me more focused on getting in more activity. Anybody here use a Fitbit? Does it help you?
loganandlivsmom: I've used a Fitbit in the past and it was motivating! Walking 10,000 steps takes a lot. For me, it was a 40-minute exercise walk, plus shopping in a big box store. But I work from home and don't get a lot of steps in naturally.
August goals: 1800 min, 25x stretch, 10x strength-training
Thanks gardenerjoy! I keep thinking about getting a fitbit so I think I will do it. I do wonder how many steps I am doing on average without purposely trying to do more to see my starting point.

LandLsMom, I wear a Fitbit and have for years. I have so many of them because every time they come out with one that does something else I want it. I get into the sleep information it provides, and also the heart information. I have only done 10,000 steps once. Most of my step counts are way below that, I am ashamed to say. I got my BFF interested in it too but she walks every day for over 3 years without missing and she sometimes gets over 15,000 steps. It can be,synced with My Fitness Pal and will record your calories in total for the day and compare it to calories burned. I always try to have more burned than in, and sometimes its very close. For what I want, the Sense2 is the one I recommend but you can go online and read the features of each one. If you have an iPhone you can get an iwatch instead which really has great features. With Fitbit you only need a android phone. I think you can use a Fitbit without a phone, just use a computer or tablet.
I've been trying some new styles of exercise, giving me some opportunities to build muscle in new ways. I always worry about injury, but I've been taking it slow and so far, so good.
