Good Morning! The sun peeked out briefly this morning, but it is warmer and NO wind for a nice change. I ran a couple errands and dropped off Zowie's picture, at the newspaper, for the birthday column next week. I can't believe she will be 10! I should make a grocery list and head there after lunch. I have to do the end of the week paperwork for the gift shop so can bring the money home to count. We have a funeral tomorrow and Bob is singing Sunday so need to iron white shirts for him. Other than that not much newsy from Iowa today.
"Gma," my parents used Ben Gay for aching joints. I have used it too and like the smell, I do think it helps. I also take Tylenol for Arthritis once in awhile. I think any diet gets boring! I'd rather eat food I like, less of it, and less often. Peonies, irises, and lilacs are "grandma" flowers that remind me of my grandmothers. I thought the plants called "chicks" looked like little cabbages. I will have to see if I can find a picture. What time are you going to serve tacos?
Bob will be home for lunch soon so need to get something ready. Hope you enjoy a fantastic Friday and have a nice weekend!
Good morning to you all. It is warm and humid and raining this morning. It is so dark and gloomy so I imagine that is what we have to look forward to today.
I am washing sheets and doing a load of towels then going to dust and vacuum a bit later when everyone around me is up and around. I don't know how much the tenants on each side can hear. I know I can hear them talk and such once in awhile. I am sure then can hear when I get mad at Jack.
Looks like RCCL is having a bigger sale and we may be able to save another $300 on our current reservation so Jack is going to call them and ask. I ask him if it specified new reservations only and he said he read the terms and it doesn't say anything. So we shall see. I am all for saving more money.
Jean: These are the chicks and hen bedding plants my grandma planted. The other picture is of my grandparents. I lived with them the last two year of high school. My grandma is not blood, but she married grandpa 3 years before I was born. He is my mother's father. He did not like Jack simply because he had mapped out my life for me and it didn't include a sailor! I have often said it would be great to have him alive to see us happy and married 42 years. Good luck with the shirts. I hated ironing dress shirts so they always went to the laundry. Besides, Jack likes his shirts heavily starched. I know what you mean. Jackson will be 8 and Thomas 15 next month. They do grow up so fast.
Good Evening! I'm not sure where the day went but it flew by. I started the day by tearing our bed apart and washing all the bedding. The flannel sheets will be put away until fall -- hope I'm not sorry. I dragged out the vacuum and even vacuumed behind the waterbed drawers next to the wall. Yuck! We went to the funeral and ate lunch at the church afterwards. It was mostly family and fellow teachers of Deb's. Bob went to the grocery store with me and I came home with some things that were not on my list. "They just jumped in the basket" when he wasn't looking. Ya, right!
"Gma," it would be great if you can save more money on your cruise! The plant is the one I was thinking of. I've never had any but I like them. Bob took some shirts to the cleaners years ago thinking he was doing me a favor. They ironed in more wrinkles some of which I never did get out. He never did that again. When Bob first started the guys wore suits or sport coats every day, while now it's golf shirts and cotton slacks. I dated a guy my dad didn't like -- he was from the wrong side of the tracks, literally, and Catholic. My parents really liked Bob, thank heavens!
It has been raining off and on all evening. I noticed a couple wet spots in the basement tonight. I suppose the stream will appear tomorrow. More rain in the forecast tomorrow, and it's graduation for small towns around us. Have a super Sunday and enjoy!
Good morning to you all. It pretty much rained all day yesterday and supposed to continue today with the highs getting towards 90 so it is going to be a miserable day. I am going to head out around 11:30 to go get my nails done and get a couple things from Walmart then head back home. Jack wants to eat out tonight so I have no clue where he is going to want to go.
Cubs are on a roll. They have won 6 in a row. It sure would be nice for them to at least get in the playoffs this year. It is weird because we are going to see both the triple A Iowa Cubs play here in Memphis and the double A South Bend Cubs play when we get up to Indiana.
My ring came yesterday and it is really pretty. Jack said he did a good job and he did. I am going to wear it today to get my nails done. The Vietnamese gals love my jewelry for some reason.
Jean: My mom adored Jack and my dad liked him, but one of my uncles convinced him he was going to ruin me, blah, blah, blah. He had 7 kids and the oldest three have been divorced at least once and they didn't come from a broken home. Jack is a big golf shirt and tshirt wearer. Of course he wears those ugly uniforms to work, but then I doubt Bob wears golf shirts and slacks working on the farms. Jack hates the button down shirts they provide so he buys thirts with the city emblem on the pocket, which they allow you to wear. He has a bunch of bright colored ones now instead of just white. Hope your basement doesn't get too bad. I haven't been out to the garage, but I am sure it has standing water around the sides and back. Jack called RCCL and we got a $50 on board credit for being military retired and a $300 savings on the cruise. That pays for our prepaid gratuities and takes another $130 off the cruise. With what the balance is, we should be able to just pay it off completely with the tax refund next year.
Good morning ladies! It's already 79 degrees (7 am) and heading for the 90's.
I always read your posts every day but my life is rather dull right now so I don't have interesting things to talk about. The usual quilting bees, guild, knitting group and Y.
This is Senior Health Month and the Y has been having interesting talks and free bone density, hearing, and glucose testing. Wednesday they are provinding lunch for seniors and there will be door prizes and vendors with free samples.
The doctor said I have to give up weight lifting or risk fractures. My osteoporosis is getting worse in my upper body, despite the medication. The hips and legs have improved some.
I like Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and I hit the jack pot at Cole's and got a pair of jeans for $5 and then at Rose's where I got a pair for $10. They are usually $46+ in my size (10 short).
Our new Kroger opened Wednesday and I'm going to stop there after Mass today. It's one of the Super Krogers. They also have a gas station right in front of the store so that makes it easy to use my fuel points. It's double points for the summer if you shop on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
Good Afternoon! The sun is trying to peek through the clouds but it doesn't look very promising, and it's very windy. Bob's group sang three long songs this morning, and the gal who gave the children's sermon is so good, and also takes longer than most. On our way out, one outspoken man commented that between the great music and fantastic children's sermon we could have done without the pastor's two cents worth. I dared him to tell that to the pastor. We went out for breakfast and I've been putzing ever since. I keep reminding myself of my wise grandma saying Sunday should be a day of rest! We are celebrating Zowie's birthday next Saturday at the cabin. Bob just checked the forecast and it is supposed to rain all three days. I have a request for baked beans among whatever else I wish to take. I saw a recipe on FB called Chubby Hubby Bars. It has nuts, pretzels, and chocolate chips judging from the picture. For whatever reason it just doesn't seem like it should be Memorial Day weekend with another week left in the month afterwards.
"Gma," I hope that both Cubs teams will win their games when you go. I'm glad you like your ring! Amanda's mom was talking about getting a pedicure and how the Asians all were speaking their language among themselves. The lady sitting next to her struck up a conversation and said how very rude she thought that was. Dead silence followed, then all spoke in English making conversation with their clients. What GREAT savings for you on the cruise!
Susan, it's nice to see you today! We miss you when you are mia for awhile. I'm sorry about the weight lifting, but better to be safe than sorry. I wish we would get a new grocery store but that will not happen any time soon. There is a new pork processing plant coming to Sioux City. Local rumor is that once it is up and running, Tyson will buy it and close the plant here. We should be so lucky!
Maggie, what are you up to these days?
I do need to do some laundry. Bob is going to usher for a funeral tomorrow so needs another white shirt. Have a great day and enjoy!
Good morning to you all. More rain headed our way. We had some pretty good downpours on and off yesterday and to top it off, some idiot crashed into a telephone pole the second time in a week and we were without power for about 3 hours or so. Jack hurried around and took a shower and then went with me to get my nails done. He sat in their Mcdonalds at Walmart and ate ffries.
I wouldn't pop off about this except all of you ladies are religious ladies and will understand. That horses patoot in the white house had the audacity recently to say the Bible and Jesus were wrong! Let's just say when he gets to heaven I doubt God is going to usher him in. He was misinterpreting Matthew 11 where Jesus is chastising the disciples about the woman washing his feet with expensive oil instead of giving it to the poor. grrr!
I bought some new nail polish and it should be in today. I hope I didn't do what I did last time and buy the same color twice. The nail salon yesterday commented on how many colors I paint my nails and I told her I always bring my own because I will almost always smudge one so at least I can repair it at home. I told her I have about 30 colors and she said that was a lot.
Jack should be up in about 45 minutes to get started on his week again. He has a three day weekend then then works the rest of next week and part of the following then is on vacation for several days while we are in Indiana. I am looking forward to spending time with my family and seeing a bunch of old friends we don't get to see usually when we are up there.
Susan: It is too bad about your lifting, but sometimes our limitations creep right in and mess with us. Wow that is cool what your Y is doing. Seniors need to do what they can where they can with all the cuts that are made and such. I know our hospital here has a seniors program and it is very cheap to join. Good deal on jeans. I am always on the lookout for sale prices on jeans because they are so darn expensive.
Jean: You know, it used to bug me with them speaking Vietnamese to each other, but then I thought about how it was probably so much easier for them to tell each other things that way then struggle in English. I was sitting with one of the gals yesterday outside the salon waiting for it to open (she doesn't have the keys) and I ask her if I could ask her a question and she not be offended and she said ask me whatever you want. Her husband is Spanish and she can speak English, Spanish and Vietnamese. I ask her what language she thought in. She said she really didn't know. I think ladies make the assumption they sit around and talk about you so you don't understand them, but I don't think it is that at all. If you think about it, if you know how to speak, French lets say, which would it be easier for you to converse in, French or your native English? I told Jack I hate for spring and summer to zoom by so it gets cold again, but when it does, that means we can really start more planning for our cruise next year. I know most people hate all that stuff, but the planning is fun for us and we enjoy it.
Good Afternoon! It's 41 degrees with 20+ mph winds here today. #%*#{#^ COLD!! We will be hauling flower pots into the garage tonight, and covering what we can in the flower garden. The furnace is running a lot, I dug out a sweatshirt and have another one on top of it, plus my socks! I knew I should have left the flannel sheets on the bed! This weather is beyond ridiculous! Counting at church went like clockwork this morning -- balanced the first time and again on the computer posting. Stopped by the hospital thinking I needed to pay an invoice, but didn't which was nice. Have been doing laundry this afternoon, chased the fur bunnies with the vacuum, and cleaned out a kitchen drawer. Time for a short break!
"Gma," the last time I had my nails done, there was a man getting a pedicure. I have tried to talk Bob into going with me, but no luck so far. I must admit the Bennetts all have ugly feet. Both Beth and Jason have feet like mine. I had to laugh at Jack eating French fries while waiting for you. I missed the comment from the WH goofus. I sure hope the next president can speak in public without "uming, ahing, ering," etc., every other word. That drives me nuts! I just plain don't like that man! I don't mind that the nail techs speak their own language but most of them speak good English. I think planning a trip is half the fun of going!
Guess I will go see if the mail is here, or not, if Idiot delivers today. Hope you all are enjoying some sunshine and have a nice rest of the day!
Good morning to you all. No rain today but rain tomorrow again. It didn't cool off a huge amount last night and probably around 70 this morning so far. I just hope it is nice Friday as I have to go and get my haircut and colored and would like to drive around in nice weather.
I saw on FB another classmate of mine a few years older has died. When you go to a school as small as mine was, you know everyone and pretty much know their families. His sister was a few years younger than I. They had also posted a picture of the barber in our town. He isn't as dorky as Floyd was but he has been the barber for around 65 years and still is at it. He looked good too. We actually have a FB page about our town so I get to keep up with things.
My nail polish was supposed to be delivered yesterday and it didn't come and no postal update from the ship date so it is probably lost somewhere. Egads why can't the post office just do their darn job? I have a pair of pink sandals coming I think on Friday and I bought a smaller wallet for my handbag. The one I have is heavy and takes up a lot of space. I had to transfer my checkbook to a checkbook thingy, but I have a beautiful new one that is leather and never used that came with my last order of checks so just put it in that. I got it on sale and had a no shipping coupon so got a pretty good deal.
Ok, I know the pros and cons of this gun control business. I won't express my opinion about it, but tell me why the idgit in the oval office wants gun control for police officers? He is desperately trying to let the criminals run this country by all the idiotic things he is doing. I read that this morning and couldn't believe it. I noticed Beyoncé's husband paid the bail on all the people arrested in Ferguson, but he didn't pay to rebuild the businesses there even the black ones that were destroyed. This is becoming one sick country.
I made the shrimp stir fry last night and made egg rolls in the oven and Jack scarfed it right up. It is one way I can get him to eat a bunch of veggies all at once. This stir fry is pretty easy and only takes one pan, which is nice. I buy frozen shrimp so it is already deveined and I just take the tails off. The first time I made it was for me alone and I forgot to take off the tails. The recipe calls for veggies you chop and such, but I just use two big cans of chow mein veggies and it works great. I spray my wok instead of putting oil in it to cut down on calories and I don't like ginger so leave it and the sake out. I am not going to buy sake or sherry just to make this once in awhile. It doesn't seem so suffer without it. Tonight I am fixing Pork Chops and scalloped potatoes. I haven't decided on my veggies for tonight, maybe some broccoli.
Jean: Isn't that the way it always is, you put away winter clothing and it gets cold or you put away summer clothes and you have a couple days of hot weather. You did say you hoped you weren't putting away your sheets too early, but darn it is the middle of May! Jack can't sleep on flannel it makes him sweat. We use an electric blanket instead, but mine up and died last year and I haven't replaced it. I found our new smart meter really cuts down on summer use, but I sure don't save money with the furnace coming on. I think few people have nice looking feet. I saw some pictures last night while reading stuff on Yahoo of women wearing open toed high heels and their pinky toes sticking out of the side of the shoes. I mean either buy wider shoes or don't wear the open tiny strap things. What amazes me is women walking around in spike heels in WM shopping. Even if I could wear shoes like that and had to shop after work, I think I would put a pair of flat heeled shoes in the car and change. I see old guys come into the salon all the time getting manis or pedis. Jack would never do it. I can't do pedis anymore as it is too hard on my knee trying to lift it up straight.
Good Morning! The sun is shining today, and the wind has slowed down to a breeze. It's still a sweatshirt and furnace kind of day -- cold. Bob was going up to the cabin to put the ladders on the dock, fix the vinyl picnic table so it won't fold up on the kids, and mow. Just as he was about to leave his farmer friend, Rich, called and is sending him to another field to plant beans. Bob was excited because it's been a couple years since he's done that. He's hoping it's not too wet so he won't get stuck. So much for the cabin chores today. He had planned to go get the boat tonight so not sure if he will do that or not. It takes some time to get it cleaned and ready for the summer fun. Kids are already talking about skiing.
"Gma," what color nail polish did you pick this time? Do you have a favorite brand? I have several pair of the thong type sandals and have noticed my feet are swelling by evening. Think I will look for some slip on kind and see how they do. I've worn this style for years so would hate to give them up. With our crazy weather I put socks on again today! I could never go back to wearing the really high heels. It would be interesting to see these gals in a few years. I'm betting lots of foot and/or leg issues.
Not much else going on for me today. I need to head to the basement and vacuum kitty litter and cat fur. Sonny digs like he is going to China, and has litter all around the outside of the box. He will follow me downstairs and watches until I turn the vacuum on, then he flies back up the stairs.
I need to head downstairs. Hope you all a have a terrific Tuesday and enjoy!
Good afternoon Magnolias. I am typing this on one of Will’s computers for mine is in the shop again. All of a sudden it froze and gave me a message, which I have forgotten what it said but, when the Teckie opened it up he said he had NEVER seen that message on a computer
and would look into it and fix it for me.
What is nice it raining again. We are getting April showers in May. Will had planned to BBQ this evening but I will cook the meat inside.
We have been out and about and seen the buffalo who were all laying down and chewing their cudd.
Have a great day MAGNOLIAS and I will type at y’all later when I get my computer back.
Good morning to you all. We have 80% chance of rain today again so guess it is going to be gloomy. I didn't get enough sleep last night so I am kind of running slow this morning. I had this nightmare where Jack and I were in this huge department store that had a food court and business offices and such. I got mad at him about something and walked away from him looking for an elevator to the first floor as our car was on the first floor to leave. I wandered around and got lost and found the food court and ask a lady where the 1st floor elevator was and she just pointed so I left and found an area where a bunch of people were sitting and eating cheese and crackers on couches and no one knew where I needed to go. I found elevators but the first three were to different levels and none to the first floor. I finally found the elevator that said it was to the first floor and went back to where Jack was to get him and he was gone. I went looking for him and couldn't find him and was afraid I would get lost again so went back to the elevator for the first floor and stood there for a long time. He finally came around the corner and we got on the elevator with this big man who was smarting off about how great Hillary Clinton was. I told him he was a jerk and he kept asking me questions about my politics and I ignored him. When the elevator doors opened and we stepped off he followed us yapping at me and I turned around and told him to leave us alone and some other stuff I can't remember. We walked to the entrance and it was raining like a hurricane but Jack said the car was parked out on the street not in the garage and we had to walk in the rain to get to it. I woke up when we started out in the torrential rain. Then it took me 3 hours to get back to sleep.
Our son called us yesterday afternoon to chat and he and his dad talked mostly about the Cubs and he had to hang up so he could go into the school and pick up Jackson. He called back and I talked to him for a couple minutes, but our connection kept going out so I told him the next time it happened I wasn't going to call back. I asked him if Jackson had ever been to the museum of Science and Industry and he hadn't so he is going to love it. It is so huge, you can't possibly see everything and they have an omnimax theater that shows 2 or 3 different things, the only WWII German Uboat in captivity, a coal mine and a full size train you can walk through besides, full sized airplanes hanging from the sky, a huge doll house and on and on. They have one area that is all about the body and they have these small glass cases high up on a wall with real babies in them from about 2 months on to show how they grow. It kind of freaked me out as a kid, but the older I got the more interesting it became. I would imagine if they had lived those babies would be about 80 years old as the museum opened in 1933. They have a human heart simulation you can walk through and see what your heart looks like on the inside and you hear it beat and pump. They have an old grocery store showing kids how small town life was and even have a brooder with baby chicks hatching at different stages. There is a ton of interaction stuff that kids really love. I have been there a bunch of times as a kid and adult and I love it each time I go.
Maggie: Hope they can finally get your computer fixed permanently.
Jean: I have a couple brands, but I buy OPI almost exclusively because I find it is a great polish and they have zillions of colors. I get them online at a place called nail polish diva, which is the only place I have seen that has every color OPI makes and they are very reasonable compared to other places that sell that brand. The company is in Louisiana, but a lot of times the polish is shipped directly from her supplier. I bought "I'm not really a waitress," "Animalistic," and "An affair in red square." They are all shades of red but darker more cherry red colors and the one is a bit more orange. I'm wearing a burnt orange metallic color right now on my nails and toes, but will use one of the reds when I get them done to go to Indiana. I wear mostly thong style sandals, mainly because they fit me better. I have big feet and have trouble with sandals that have straps across the heel. I find that slip ons slide on feet more than thong styles do. I know I quit buying cheap ones because the foot bed isn't padded enough and they tend to come apart at the thong. I buy a lot of my shoes at Masseys because I can get the bigger sizes with them. I have 3-4 pairs of Clarks that I wear a lot and then several different brands. It is tough still to find size 11's a lot.
Good Afternoon! It's another wet, cold day in my corner of the world. The weatherman has promised "warmer and sunshine" for tomorrow. We'll see. My eyes are watering today and bothering me enough that I called the doctor for something besides Claritan, which isn't working the best. I thought maybe I would have to go in but his nurse called in an eye drop prescription for me. He and I have discussed allergies before! I need to run a couple errands and am waiting for the pharmacy to call that it is ready. Otherwise, it has been a putzing kind of day. I dragged out the vacuum and started in the bedrooms when I got interrupted by a phone call. Bob ordered grill parts on my iPad and gave the wrong expiration date on the credit card. It's a good thing the caller ID said "Omaha Grills" or I would have added them to my blocked call list. I'm getting really good at doing that! The realtors had their mass meeting in the house across the street this morning. We live on a long block and this house has a large globe yard light that comes on automatically. I'm hoping the new owners will leave it on as otherwise it will be awfully dark around our house. Today is Zowie's birthday and she called to tell me her American Girl soccer outfit arrived. They are finished with school, which I had forgotten.
Maggie, how frustrating to be without your computer again! I hope you get it back, fixed 100%, soon! We've had enough rain for awhile! Farmers need to finish planting and they are getting grumpy!
"Gma," what a strange dream! I don't very often dream but sometimes I do remember them. This morning I woke up thinking it was Monday and I was running late. Sometimes I just stand and look at OPI colors to see what names they have come up with. I stick with pale pink for my nails, for no particular reason except it doesn't stand out if I need to have them filled. I noticed WM has a few bottles along with the cheaper brands, but on the top shelf out of reach for small people. I can't believe that some will open a bottle and apply it to a nail to check the color. I wouldn't have the nerve to do that. I just ordered a pair of Clark's sandals that are slip on, not thongs, so hope I like them and they don't make my feet swell as much.
I have clothes to put in the dryer so better do that before I forget, and then head back upstairs to finish vacuuming. Enjoy the rest of a Wonderful Wednesday!
I have my computer back now it is all cleaned out. They had to dump everything and reload it because of that intrusion that is still a mystery However, they did remove 925 Temp Files and it was lurking in there somewhere. I sure hope you gals don’t get what ever it was. Since I have a contract with them it didn’t cost me any do re me to get it done.
DONNA FAYE Wonder what in your life caused you to have such a dream. Isn't there a song that goes ~ "A dream is a wish your heart makes."
JEAN This time of the year my eyes water but because they are dried out and my doc recommended over the counter "Artificial Tears, Lubricant Eye Drops" for soothing relief. I keep a fresh bottle handy and the really work great for me
Good morning to you all. Pretty chilly here this morning. It was quite warm when we went to bed, but the temp dipped a lot and I had to turn it off around 1 or freeze to death. I am hoping we are done with rain for awhile, but who knows.
Nothing on the agenda today. I have a hair appointment first thing tomorrow morning. I am going to ask her to cut it a bit shorter for the summer months. It gets so hot and humid down here and stores aren't always the coolest to go into. WM is a good example. It is always so hot in there or at least it feels like it to me.
I am a big Grey's Anatomy fan, though I am just starting from the beginning and don't stay up for the new episodes. I saw online that the main character they killed off was not by his choice but by the woman who plays his wife. I guess she is close friends with his real wife and he was cheating on her with some intern on the show. She went to the show's creator, who is pretty vocal about hanky panky and she wrote him out of the show by killing him off. I guess if you want to kill your husband, don't shoot him, stab him, poison him, just write him out of your life!
I am doing laundry at the moment and will get some breakfast in just a little while. I try to wait until after 7 to eat if I can and space it out having something every couple hours or so. Sometimes I just wake up starving and have to eat earlier, but I sure try not to as it screws everything up. I usually try to have a piece of fruit or a couple crackers and one of those laughing cow wedges or one of those baby bel light circles between meals for a snack. I occasionally eat yogurt, but am not really a huge fan of yogurt. We are having salmon patties with hash browns and broccoli tonight. I am running out of fruit so it will probably be an orange for "dessert" as I still have plenty of those. I read an article about how you should pick different colored fruit throughout the day so I do try to have like a banana, orange, blueberries, green grapes and then red berries as my choices. I tried pomegranate, but it was a pain digging out the seeds so I gave up on that.
Maggie: Glad you got your computer back. We haven't had any problems with stuff on our computer.
Jean: I like to shake things up with my nail polish. I have oranges, blues, greens, reds, yellow, pinks, purples, rust colors, you name it, I probably have it. I have flat colors and stuff with sparkle in it too. I also have a bottle of clear polish that has the sparkle in it to paint over the top of a flat color if I want more sparkle. Since I had such a tumultuous childhood, I think I have dreams like that because my subconscious is afraid of abandonment. I say that because I have dreams a lot where I can't find people or I get separated from my grandsons or my kids or whatever. I had a dream over 40 years ago when I was pregnant with Jay that I still remember, I guess because it upset me so much. I was in our town's park and saw my niece, who was around 4 at the time, be murdered. We were really strapped for money and back then you paid for long distance, but I was so upset about it Jack made me call my sister to make sure she was ok. She is 46 now and we are actually going to have dinner with her and her husband on the first Sunday we are up in Indiana so she wasn't murdered.
You gals have a good day! I am going to read for awhile. I got a free book through bookbub and liked the series so bought all of the books she has so far in the series so am reading them.
