Default Trying to get back on track!! (Confessions)

I should have been at my final goal by now!! Instead for some reason every time I get close to getting into the 160s I give up! I was down to 171 and hit a big mental block and I started believing that I would never make my goal (135lbs). After a few months of not working out and not controlling my eating I am back up to 174lbs (I know it could be much worse) but instead of continuing down this uncontrolled path I am going to correct myself! I have ZERO support with my weight loss besides this website! Yesterday I worked my butt of at the gym only to come home and eat all the calories burned back :/ I don't know why I do it! I need to find more self control and mental strength!! Hopefully this will be my last time falling off track!!!

I hear you. I have been trying to lose weight for years (and I'm sure there's many more peeps here that have been as well). I have countless times set dates and goals. Figured out if I lost 2 lbs a week, 1 lb a week, or 1/2 a pound a week, how long till I'd be thin. Some of those dates are months or years behind me now. And yet here in am starting again at a new higher weight. I've done the "eat back calories after working out" and even more often the "eat calories because I PLAN to burn them off" (the latter pretty much never happens).

We can't beat ourselves up over 'shoulda/coulda/woulda' we have right now, and guess what? We get another chance to make our goals and aspirations happen. We get yet another opportunity to show ourselves that we can stand back up, once again dust off our behinds and take steps forward once again.

I guess I want to say that your not alone. And MANY people take MANY tries to get it right. Fortunately we have this incredible elastic brain that gets to keep learning everytime we make mistakes and everytime we discover new things about ourselves and our world.

I'm currently starting day three of being on plan. Not a big number. I've done better than three days before. But a big deal because today I'm OP so far. Each single day is important, and for me constantly reminding myself that i care about making these changes today (lot waiting for later) has been helping. Ill probably slip up again (who doesn't!) but everyday that is in the right direction isoving me towards my goals.

Good luck! You can do this. We are in this together.

The good news is that you know how to lose the weight, and you know that you're capable of losing the weight

Here's my suggestion: Instead of making goals like, "I'm going to lose x amount of pounds by x date," try "I'm going to eat on plan for x days/exercise x amount of days this week/insert behavior based goal here."

By making your behavior your goal rather than a weight deadline you have complete control. All sorts of things go on in our bodies and we can't always control what the scale says, but we can control what we do. This is doubly beneficial because 1 - When you see yourself achieving your goal you will be encouraged to continue rather than give up and 2 - Your healthy behaviors will eventually help you to lose the weight that you want to.

Today is a new day, good luck!

Thank you guys! Yes we do learn from our failures and I will use mine to better my future! Thanks for the great advice and it's always great to view things differently and I am going to change the type of goals I set for myself as suggested!

Have you tried having an accountability partner? I'm starting insanity today and I've got 4 accountability partners because I need I know need a lot of help. Maybe if you have a friend or neighbor call and check in on you it could help. Good luck!!

That would be a great thing to have but sadly I do not have an accountability partner! Hopefully I will be able to find someone. I do kinda use this website as an accountability partner! Haha

Hang in there SarahJane! I can relate to what you're saying about having your "should be at goal" dates pass. I've been hovering around my current weight for about 6-ish months. I also calculate how long it would take me to get to goal at 1 pound a week, etc. And of course I could have been at goal a few times over during those 6 months!

Oh well, we can't change the past! Lets just work on today

Well I am back on track since yesterday.
I had a very disappointing week last week and had a pity party; but now I am on track and WI today and there was no change which is good considering what I did at my pity party.
So Thursday later this week I will WI again and see how I did!. Hoping for some negative numbers.
Wish me luck!

Hang in there, there is no failure in this process, only feedback. If you fall down 99 times, get up 100!

I had to learn that I have to be my own accountability partner, this us up to me and no one else. I currently have attended 81 WW meetings in a row without a miss, and rarely does anything interfere with scheduled workout time. It's a lousy 3-4 hours a week, other things can wait.

I'm not totally un flexible about the schedule because life does happen, but for the most part, I stick to what works for me.

This weekend was an example of veering off my workout plan, I went to stay with my 2 yo granddaughter while her folks went to have the new baby! All is well. So while I did not follow my regularly scheduled program, chasing a 2 yo made up for that! I forgot the little buggers are never still unless they are sleeping!

I totally understand. I have lost significant amounts of weight about 3 times in the past year. I made my goal weight once about two years ago and kept it off for a year, to gain it all back, but I won't fail at this. I will keep trying until I finally get it right.

This is one of the most impressive stats I've read so far on this forum.

That's dedication & focus, without a doubt.

Keep up the good work.
