Default Confused

Hi everyone, I was told I was pre diabetic with an a1c of 5.8 . I was a 5.8 2 yrs ago and didn't change a thing in my life simply because nobody mentioned it was a problem. Now I told to watch my diet. I'm 5foot 6 in. 115 lbs. I eat healthy most of the time but bing on the weekends. I run 2 miles 4 times a week.not sure what else I can do. Any thoughts??

Did a doctor tell you that you are pre diabetic ? You are not overweight in fact you are a little underweight.If a doctor told you that you are pre diabetid, did he/she tell you to cut down on sugar ?

Hi Ritatini

Many people who are not overweight are still diabetic. Diabetes is usually diagnosed at a1c of 6.5, although some doctors use 7.0. Most likely all you need to do is cut back some on carbs, especially sugar, bread, flour, white rice and some really sweet fruits. Also, starches such as white or russet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are actually better for blood sugar than other potatoes. The other thing that helps is increasing protein. Lean meats, chicken or fish. Or use a good whey protein drink, like I do. The other trick is not to eat carbs without protein. Ideally, try to have as much or more protein with a meal or snack as the amount of carb grams. You may be familiar with all this. If not, this is a good place to get good info, as many folks on here have to watch their blood sugar and know how to do it. Best wishes in your goals and welcome!

Yes I was told I was pre diabetic.dont eat sweets or drink wine.i already watch my carbs and sweets I allow myself 3 nights a week to indulge but the rest of the time I'm good .yet m still pre.do I have to give up all pleasure?and forever or is this reversible
