This group is for those dealing with the challenges of being fit when you have a significant amount of weight to lose which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in!
What a fun morning - new month, new threads, new lifeboat.
I am down 5.5 lbs for my official January loss - I started a few days early and am down 12.75 from where I was on 12/28. Now I need to string February in there too with a pound a week. Also it takes so long for me to feel any loss in my clothes - ready for that. I do feel like I'm more focused than I've been in a very long time.
Morning! I lost 9 pounds in Jan, but that's a bit deceptive. I think the high weight involved a couple of pounds of water weight, and I wasn't trying to lose before that. Still. My clothes do fit a bit better. I had a number of pants that went from "fit" to "don't fit" during December. They are back to "fit" today for the most part. That's an NSV I can get behind.
Hello my name is Sara... I am on the downhill side of 40 as of Feb.... Gained weight after my last son was born.. then more weight due to hospitalization.. the depression.....
Heaviest I was 350lbs in 2004.... now I am slowly trying again to lose weight.... down to 261 right now but that seems to be fluctuating with water weight and lousy scales
Going to buy a new digital scale tomorrow to be better able to stablize what exactly my weight is......
Can use some help for sweet tooth recipies that are lo cal but still chocolate
Well, I was right. I am squishy. Even though I stayed OP I managed to show a half pound gain this morning. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that but I'll get there. Still working on lowering carbs. My head wants to hang onto every carb it sees so I guess this month I'll working on switching a few points of carbs for protein or dairy. I've got a feeling this is going to make me a miserable b**ch until I accept the fact that it has to happen.
Jan was a good month. I didnt have a large weight loss but I made alot of good choices that should help the weight come back off. I think I am down about 6 from my highest this round. My goal is still a lb a week.
I ate asparagus last night and boy did it flush my body of extra fluids. I was in the bathroom alot during the night. Scales moved today and Im just praying they will stay down.
I just have 2 kids today and its suppost to be 60 again so we will go out for a walk.
I'm doing okay. Work is really kicking it up and combined with hubby being out of town... normally this is a recipe for disaster. But I'm so pleased that my eating has been consistent. Not perfect, but that's fine.
my mini goals for Feb are doing great.... no soda only water ( did have my coffee but with truvia no sugar)
no salty snacks working...
walking everyday a little harder as the weather right now is Buckets of water coming down...
But still going strong
PHEW! I did it. I replaced 2 pts of carbs with 2 pts of dairy this afternoon. Now I've just got to keep it up.
Hope everyone is confidently sticking to what ever plan you've chosen.
Hey Deb I've been looking for asparagus but can't find it fresh or frozen. Think I'll try a different store tomorrow. I love asparagus and haven't had any in about a month.
As some of you may know, I'm bipolar and on medication that caused weight gain in the 50-lb. range. I've gotten used to buying plus-size clothing but could still use suggestions on how to lose even 20 lbs. so I can feel more energetic. I have a sedentary job which isn't helping either. Could use a dose of advice/encouragement. Thanks!
Right there with you, Heather. All our retention, tenure, and promotion evaluations were due today, plus we've had 3 candidates in this week. (We're interviewing for 2 positions, 4 interviews a pieces, so still 6 of them to go!) Plus I had some kind of evening event every night this week.
Did I mention I won the student/faculty spelling bee? The students are always throwing these events and forgetting to line up faculty in advance, so I got roped in at the last minute.
Anyone here cook Indian?
Glad to hear everyone's doing well.
Pumbaa, what are you trying so far? I started with very short periods of exercise (a 5 minute walk, that kind of thing) and built up to 30 or so minutes a day, and, at the advice (many years ago) of a therapist, whenever I start trying to lose weight I have started by simply recording my eating for a week or so in order to have a good idea of how many calories I'm averaging, then reduce by around 500 a day to start.
pumbaa- I dont know what meds you are on but hubby is also on alot of meds for bipolar disorder. I know topamax helped him lose about 20lbs a few yrs ago. He is really watching his carbs and that seems to helping him more than anything, I know meds cause major carb cravings. He has lost 15lbs this year.
My stupid scales stayed the same again...I saw a lower number yesterday than today. I am not giving up..Im on a roll and will continue.
I have done a dvd 2 days in a row plus walking outside. Woo hoo
Im eating meat and veggies pretty much. Really watching the carby veggies.
