  • I know Thanksgiving seems sooooooo far away, but I just checked my calendar and it's only 17 weeks from now! I see some family at Thanksgiving that I usually only see during the holidays, and I'd love to make a dramatic difference in my body to impress everyone by then. Anyone up for a Thanksgiving challenge?

I am setting two goals for myself:

    1. Lose 12 pounds. I know it doesn't seem like much since I have 17 weeks, but I tend to lose at a rate of about 0.5 pounds a week. So this is actually an ambitious goal for me!

    2. Run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. Around here, there are a few organized Turkey Trot runs (5k) on Thanksgiving morning. Even if I can't make it to an organized race, I'd like to run 3 miles that day. I haven't run in YEARS and am totally out of shape, so I plan to use the next 17 weeks to start exercising steadily again.

Anyone else interested in checking in here?
  • Count me in! I have just started OP again and would love to join this challenge! I also have just started working out again and running is my biggest goal. I have a 5k set up for September and a 10K in October, so I will incorporate those as well.

    1. Lose 22 lbs. I am not sure how I will be doing in the weight loss department, so will figure one lb a week for now.

    2. Run 3 miles on Thanksgiving. I will have to search to see if I can find an organized race, but if not, will definitely run on my own!
  • I am in!

    1. Lose 30lbs bringing me to 147.4. Which seems ambitious, but that is 2lbs a week until I hit 150 and then 1lb a week afterward.

    2. Run a 5k on Thanksgiving Morning

At that weight I will be about 10lbs lighter than I was when I got married the day after Thanksgiving in 1997.
  • Well, Fellow-Thanksgiving-Challengers, I can't say I've been particularly motivated to hit the pavement. It has been HOT here and I just can't bring myself to exercise in the heat.

(Full disclosure: I have a treadmill in the house, so really, I suppose it's all about laziness...)

Nonetheless, there's still 16 weeks until Thanksgiving, and I am certain I can be in 5k shape by then as long as I get started next week. So, that's my plan! Next Monday I am either hitting the pavement or the treadmill, one way or another.
  • banana - you are cracking me up! I was feeling completely in your corner when you mentioned the heat and how hard it is to run in it. Its in the 90's here and unless I hit the pavement early in the morning (which I am not good at) I end up doing the elliptical instead.
But then I got to the second paragraph of your post. LMAO....get on the damn treadmill! LOL. I would LOVE to have one in the house!!
  • LOL! I know!! There's no excuse for my laziness, except to say that, well, I've always been lazy.

But Monday, come **** or high water, I'm going to actually move my legs further than from the couch to the bathroom. Promise!!
  • YES! A Turkey Trot challenge - I'm in. I can't wait for cooler weather as well so I can start running outside more.. even though it's acting as a good excuse right now to not get out there haha. I tried running just a mile today but I can't even do that so my goal for this challenge is to dominate a 5k!

  • Hi everyone. I'll join you in the new challenge.
I am hoping to lose about 20 pounds by the end of this year.
    And 15 pounds by Thanksgiving!

I count my calories and lose about 1 pound a week
I can't run because of a knee injury, but I am doing other forms of exercize.

I wish everyone a lot of luck. And maybe we can all fit into smaller clothes by the Holidays!
    .
  • Well, I have been kind of on plan. I've had a few off moments (ok, maybe more than just a few off moments), but I am doing better than I have in the past two years. lol

I still have Thanksgiving solidly in my mind, as I really want to be smokin' hot by then.

As for running... well... I admit that so far my *** remains solidly on my sofa.
  • Hey Ladies! I would totally like to join the Turkey Trot!

Id love to be down 30lbs by Thanksgiving!
Thats about 2lbs a week for me and I believe I can completely doing it by counting my calories.

I would also LOVE LOVE LOVE to run a 5k by then!
  • So how's everyone doing?

I remain solidly the same: eating semi-on-plan, and pretty much avoiding the treadmill like it's a disease. That said, I still have big plans to start running next week.
  • Banananutmuffin - MOVE IT! You may as well hop on that treadmill today!

Hope you all are doing well.

I did a 5K this morning and beat my PR from 1 month ago. It was about 1 year ago that I started c25k. I never thought I would enjoy jogging so much, I just decided to try it bc my son wanted to run a 5k and he was too young to go on his own. So my first 5K was in late Oct. last year, my goal was to jog the entire time.

I am supper excited about my time, it gives me hope that I will complete my 1/2 marathon Sept. 10 in under 3 hours. I am becoming a jogging geek...I so totally want a magnet for my fridge that simply says 13.1

I am down 9.2 lbs from the start of this challenge with 20.8 lbs to go.
  • Im starting c25k tomorrow! I have been doing about 4.5 miles on the elliptical so im gonna move on for 3 days a week and start this program. Im really excited! Ive been on point with my calories this weekend so Im hoping for a good number on the sacle!
  • My first 5k was a Turkey Trot last year and I intended to participate again this year. Last time around I had yet to run a mile without stopping and the entire route took me about 46 minutes. This year I want to do it in under 36. Right now I'm running two miles at a time a couple of times a week. I'm going to build up slowly because the next goal after the Turkey Trot is a half marathon on December 11th.

So my goals for this challenge will be:

    1. Finish a 5k in under 36 minutes on Thanksgiving.

    2. Lose 20 pounds by Thanksgiving (putting me at 139).
  • Hoping it's OK if I jump in late. Just set my goals for the rest of the year this weekend.

    1. 137 by Thanksgiving (that's 16 pounds for me)
2> Turkey trot 5k, I have been wanting to run again. Perfect reason to train
