Default Slimmer's World

I have heard a lot about this plan and it is now coming to North America. I read an article about it in an American magazine. It promised large amounts of weight loss but had large amounts of food in the daily plans given.
I can't see how that can work. Has anyone on here tried it?
Thanks,
pat

Hi CC, I get a kick out of your name because I am originally from Nova Scotia where the original Cajuns came from where they were Acadians. I am a huge fan of Cajun music.

I think I should have put something else in the title of this thread; people likely think it is for people who are on the program. I can't see how it would work with all the carbs. I am only 5'1" and every carb settles directly around my middle.

Good Morning. Thank you for the info. I have type 2 diabetes so I do not know if this would work for me because I cannot have too many carbs. Congratulations on your weight loss.

Thanks ems, you have done really well on ww, you look fantastic. I have great difficulty with carbs so that was my first thought when I read the SW article.I don't think the ww programs have the same names on this side of the pond. I never did well with ww either but just followed points, I should have regulated the carbs myself.

I'm on SW at the moment. I'd say I'm VERY strict with what I have, the first week I lost 4.5lbs, and then nothing else for a few weeks. I have a very sedentary (I'm lazy) lifestyle so that may be it so I'm currently doing exercise and hopefully I'll have lost this week!

I would recommend it. My whole family is on it and they are losing so much weight! My father lost 28lb in 2 months, with no physical activity, and my sister has lost 10lb in 3 or 4 weeks (And she has cheated quite a lot!). Obviously it depends on what sizze you are... My Dad was obese, now he's down to 'overweight' BMI, and my sister was only just 'obese' (BMI of 30.51) and obviously now she's just 'overweight'. So if you've got a lot to lose then I think it'll work!

And I wouldn't worry too much about the carbs. As I have less to lose I watch my carbs too. I just eat more veg and fruit.

I'm just after starting slimming world, my mum started the week before me and in her first week she lost 9 pounds. (she is older, so a lot of it would be water weight but still). My first weigh in is on Thursday, and I've been eating the same things as my mum so we'll see how it works for me!

Usually I'd eat a poached egg on brown wholemeal bread with a few beans for breakfast. (My favourite).
Then if I was in the mood to snack during work (I work in a cafe, so chips are always there:P) I'd have some fruit instead, i keep strawberries in the fridge.
For dinner I'd have skinless chicken, and theres so many ways you can cook it. Yum. I'd have it with pasta or a potato or else a salad. You can even make your own chips which is lovely cos I'm a chip addict.

Google it and it should tell you all about the plan, but if you want first hand information, come back to me on Thursday :P

So far, I find it extremely easy to follow.
and last week all my mum could say was "I'm eating too much to be losing anything!" and then she had lost 9 Lbs.

PS - chips = fries. ;D

I know! I do find that it is so easy to eat with. It doesn't feel really like a diet. I don't think maintaining will be that hard!!

However I have slipped tonight. I went to a party, second party in two days where I didn't drink alcohol! I was very impressed with myself for following my diet... so much so that I had a piece of chocolate cake, some cocktail sausages and a few rather large biscuits. And a dollop of nutella. The diet's great... but they are not allowed whatsoever!

Oh well. I keep telling myself that it's better than drinking alcohol, but I'm not so sure.. I'm going to do exercise tomorrow and eat really well for the next week! I've already cancelled my dinner date with my friend for tomorrow night. I need to make sure I'm back on plan! He can come around mine and I'll make him Slimming World chips. YUM!

Slimming World works by food optimising.

There is a list of free foods (includes superfree foods) and healthy extras. You can eat as much free food as you like (1/3 your plate should contain superfree foods) and choose two healthy extras a day.

Everything else has a syn value and you are allowed between 5 and 15 a day.

The plan allows you to eat anything but really I find it encourages you to make meals yourself rather than relying on supermarket meals etc.

This must be the diet my mother was on years ago, the "sin" bit really stuck in my memory. Terrible mindset for dieting, calling foods "sins", along with "temptation" and all the other weird religious-based guilt trips we get about food. I find it rather creepy that they've respelt it "syn" and claim it's short for "synergy". What was wrong with "treat"?
