I've done it by calorie counting and giving up junk food and sticking with healthy whole foods - lean protein, fruits, veggies, and not too much of "the whites" - white flour, white rice, white potatoes. I aim for around 1550 calories a day (I track them on myplate). It's kinda amazing how much food 1500 caloiries are if there's no junk food in there.
