Default December 2010 PCOS Support Thread

Welcome to the monthly thread! The November 2010 Support thread is here.

The related December 2010 Exercise Thread is here.

Who's here this month?

Me! I had slight regain after Thanksgiving and I want it off not more on over Yule and Christmas and New Years. (What winter holidays do you celebrate?)

How are you?

Busy, but fine. Trying to make time for fitness and keep the holiday activities realistic.

What are you working on?

My PALA award -- hopefully will keep me going with workouts. Even though I had a late day at work with a meeting, when I got home I banged out 30 min of Wii Sports. I didn't even realize PALA includes this now as an activity til I rebooted my account!

How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?

Good emotionally, mentally, spiritually. A bit awkward physically but I was on a BCP break. I think I want to get back on now since I tend to feel less hectic on it. But I do take breaks periodically when my GP reminds me I've been on for a long stretch. So break done, waiting for TOM and waiting to go back on. I just feel smoother on it and not so up and down. YKWIM?

Glad to be back!

A.

Who's here this month?

Me.

How are you?

I'm doing pretty well. Not too shabby.

What are you working on?

As of the past week and some, I have been working on exercising. After reading soooo much about how regular exercise helps PCOS, something finally snapped. I started off walking an hour every morning, but my ankle wouldn't tolerate that, so I've been switching off with an hour of Wii Fit Plus (which is the better workout at this point for me). I feel like I'm finally doing something right, even if my weight is still bouncing around like a yo-yo on steroids.

I think part of the help was finally feeling like this is the last 'go'. I am going to lose the weight this time. And... I've finally figured out that I really do want a baby. I don't want to even try to start conceiving until I'm at least down to 200, so that's a pretty awesome motivator.

How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?

Last month was the month I recommitted to my health and declared this would be the last time. Even though my weight is bobbing around and my eating hasn't been spectacular, my face is already starting to clear up.

Who's here this month?

I am, of course, on the best site for weight loss support and PCOS!

How are you?

I'm okay. I have a big presentation to make in a little while and I am distracting myself otherwise I will get too nervous.

What are you working on?

Well, this month I'm working on taking off the 4 lbs that I have left remaining before I reach 170. I weighed in this morning at 174.6 and while I'm happy that I am this low, I also want to reach 170 before December 31st.

If I do, it means I've lost 10 lbs this year, which may not seem like a lot, but after everything I've done, being on plan to the letter, exercising as much as I do, those have some hard-fought pounds off.

I know, it sounds so bad, because other people lose weight so much faster than I do, but I'm happy I'm not at the same weight or higher than I was last year.

It's an accomplishment.

I'm also going to be sticking to my supplements which seem to be working and hopefully I'll be getting my period now any day now (weight gain, cravings for chocolate, all the signs are there!).

I also can't believe the year is over. It really has gone by so quickly.

How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?

Last month was good. I lost a few pounds, which is a great! I always wish the scale moved faster, but I'll take a slight downward slope than no slope at all!

PCOS is doing well. I'm getting my periods, which is always a good sign. The blood sugar seems to be balanced, because I am losing some weight. I'm exercising and eating healthy. I'm planning on doing it through the holidays too. I really want to see 170 or less!!!

Who's here this month?

I'm around. I missed the ending of last month, apparently. LOL. I don't know how, but the end of November just slipped through my fingers.

How are you?

Not too good right now. I was sick before Thanksgiving, and stopped exercising. The family made 14 pies & a cake for Thanksgiving, even though there are only five of us. I pigged out for a week, and it was a horrible idea. I still haven't got myself back to exercising or paying attention to what I'm eating. Haven't been taking my metformin right, either. I've been having annoying mood swings, and I HATE them.

Sigh. I'm so mad at myself for letting this screw up happen. Now I gotta get back into the routine, and it's super hard. I really need to get back into the exercise and lay off the damn carbs.

What are you working on?

Getting back into exercise, and making myself pay attention to what I'm shoving in my face. Really not looking forward to Christmas since I let Thanksgiving win the battle this year. I'm hoping I do better around Christmas.

How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?

Last month wasn't completely horrible. I did manage to get in 660 minutes worth of exercise. PCOS is okay. Provera gave me a period, and it was actually better than I thought it'd be. I do need to get back to taking my Metformin every day, twice a day.

Here's to a Happy December

JMSilver -- I'm doing Wii Fit Plus right now too. I like the bike one because it lasts longer than some of the shorter games and for some reason I like collecting flags. What's your fav?

Rana -- how was the presentation? You go! Got so much good happening!

babble -- welcome back! Glad you like the new doc. Hope the blood pressure improves!

t0rn -- sorry you felt sick. Wow -- that's a lot of dessert. I had that much for 3x as many people! But I still think it was too much. I appreciate people's potluck generosity, but I still made them take as much of it home with them as possible. I can't have trigger food around here and even then I had a slight regain. TOM time though, and lots of sodium, so I'm seeing where I'm finally going to settle at.

I should have kept up with the food log to know for sure but it got away from me. I took want to do better for Christmas.

Anyway, on track and workout done today. Yay me!

I still want to join the gym but I haven't made it to sign up, so I worry that I won't make it to workout. In the meanwhile, with all this holiday time activities (I got invited to 3 extra parties!) I'm going with the Wii.

I'm really trying not to be a flake about picking something and sticking with it, but I always feel like my brain wants to do things I used to as a single and my actual real life is not letting devote that kind of time any more as a family mom.

On the other hand I'm really touched with the extra invites -- this is not my usual crowd, and I'm flattered others are trying to include me in their circles. It's really nice.

But it makes me think I ought to do more of my OWN open house stuff spread around the year instead of all piled up at the end.

A.

Thanks astrophe -- it went well.

t0rn -- I can't imagine making that many pies, regardless of how many people are coming over! And don't feel defeated you over ate for Thanksgiving. It comes once a year and the key is really just getting back on the wagon. You can do it!

Babble - welcome back.

I'm glad that my presentation is over now I can cruise into the holidays. I've been very nervous and it went fine, I mean, no one yelled at me!

Still waiting for my period. I really want to get it so I can see if the weight will drop. Still weighed in today at 174.4 lbs. Argh. I've been eating on plan, lots of fiber, and exercising AND taking my supplements. I know my body isn't a machine, but I would love to have all of this actually equal weight-loss.

Apostrophe - I like the rhythmic boxing. It's a definite stress release and it really gets my heart rate going.

Who's here this month?
I am back! I have been totally MIA, but I need the accountability of being on here, so I am back!

How are you?
Not that great. Totally lost track of in control eating and exercise. Slowly trying to restart again. Also just had my first failed cycle after my miscarriage. I really thought we had a good chance, being 40 pounds down, and it seemed we timed everything right, but no dice. There is a part of me that thinks we should go on break again and I should try to lose another 40-50 but we have been waiting for almost 7 years now to start our family, and I just don't want to wait anymore!

What are you working on?
Right now my main focus is going to be getting eating/regular exercise going again. Also have some fun craft projects I am working on. Other then that not much!

How was last month? How's your PCOS management going?
Last month was hard. I have been stressed from trying to get pregnant again. I have been relieving my stress by eating horrible foods...not good! My PCOS management is about the same. I don't have to worry too much about it when I am trying to get pregnant because I have regular cycles at that point. Still cyst free though!

Rana: Woot! Regular period!

JMSilver I like that too -- boxing is fun. I'm thinking about getting "Walk it Out" though. Ever played that one?

PinkHoodie: back! Sorry to hear about the TTC problems. But cyst free is good!

ME:
DH is sick. Kid is sick. I'm trying to not get sick from them. It's been a bit stressful the last few days.

I'm going to do my workout and then see try to relax. It's going to be a long day tomorrow with the sickies.

Thanks -- even my friends are sick. Whatever it is that is going around this year is a doozy. I'm trying to just steer clear of the sickies!

Hm. Nope, I've never tried that one.

Zinc and blueberries! They'll help keep the sick away from you.

No exercise today. work and life are piling up around me and I accidentally napped longer than intended after dinner.

The bright side? Even though my exercise routine is still not at PALA level? (I'm trying to earn a pala award to keep me on task)

My eats are at a solid 1800 average for the last two weeks. I've been doing exercise -- this is always the key thing for me. And I lost two pounds which brings me to 260. Yay!

Now to keep it up over the weekend despite a bday party on Sat!
