I just started on my running adventure 3 weeks ago, and could barely run for a minute at a time. I have been following th walk/jog routine, with slight modifications. My husband has been coming along to motivate me (ex-army man) and he always pushes me to give it all I've got on our last run. I told him I was really dreading Sunday when the new week starts and we walk for 2 minutes & run for 4. I said "there's no way I can run for 4 minutes". Well needless to say on the last push I gave it all I had, and when I finally looked back at the clock it had been 8 minutes.
I have never ran before, but am very addicted!!
this seems like a post i would author...lol. I can NOT imagine running that long. I'm gasping just thinking about it...my chest...lol. I hope I too can get addicted to exercise. Right now I dread it because I am SO out of shape. Ugh.
Congratulations! I remember back in July of last year, I did an early morning bootcamp where the WARM-UP was a quarter mile jog. I couldn't jog the entire quarter mile and felt horrible about myself. A few weeks ago, I ran a 10k and run on the treadmill regularly at the gym. Enjoy the upward moving endurance! I continue to remember the time running was unimaginable to me and relish those moments.
I am proud of you!
Speaking of which, I was going to take the night off from the gym. But, I'm thinking I'll go over just for a quick run.
I've told my story on here many times, so if you've already heard this just ignore me. I just wanted to tell you that three years ago when I started running I couldn't run for more than a few minutes, and the following year I ran a half marathon without stopping to walk! If I could do that, anyone can do anything. I'm telling myself that every day because I have to work back up to that after gaining a lot of weight with my pregnancy!
I remember when I started running. I looked up a plan online which started with walking 20 minutes for 4 days and then 30 minutes for 4 days before running.
Then my first real running assignment was 2 minutes jogging/running, 2 minutes walking. EASY, I thought. WRONG, I was. Two minutes is a long freaking time! Ah, eventually it got easy.
Wow! That's great news, congratulations!
I've always sayd this: jogging is the best method of losing weight. I'm sure you're going to do well and soon be able to run for even 15 minutes without a stop.
The first step is always the hardest one! But you did it!
That's awesome! I've been wanting to start jogging again but I can barely jog for a minute without being out of breath. Maybe I'll try the walk jog intervals. Do you increase the interval times every other time or every week?
Here is what I have been doing, it's a variation of something I read on a link here. I always start with a 5 minute warm up walk then:
Week 1: 1 min run, 5 min walk, reapeat 5 times. On the last run I (thanks to my hubbby) push myself and run for as long as I can. (for those of you thinking you can't do this, my 1st push was 90 sec :-)
Week 2: 2 min run; 4 min walk (best push this week 3 min)
Week 3: 3 min run; 3 min walk (best push this week 12 min, & we still have tomorrow :-)
Week 4: 4 min run; 2 min walk
Week 5: 5 min run; 1 min walk
My advice is to just get started, that has been the hardest thing for me, was just going out & doing it. If I can do it, anyone can!! Thank you all for your support. I am happier about my running times, than my scale movement!!!
Please know that you inspired me today. I read your post last night, and then today, for the first time in over two months, I decided to try c25k again (week 3) which I struggled with back in May.
Well I screwed up and thought you ran 10 minutes without stopping, so I had to "copy" you. And I hit the 10 minutes.
So now you must beat me! (It would be a fun game, right?)
Congratulations... it's such a great feeling isn't it, to accomplish that length of running!
Redsox33,
That is awesome! You're right, it is such a wonderful feeling to complete a run. I'm always so doubtful when I begin, but it's always so refreshing once I finish. Good luck to you, let's see how many minutes we can rack up!!

Sounds like a great plan! Would anybody else like to join BettyBoop and I?
