Default A Creature Of Habit

I eat the same thing for WEEKS in a row. Breakfast lately has been oatmeal with a banana and brown sugar and lunch always includes at least a cup of fruit salad.

Anyone else a creature of habit and get into "the groove" of having something VERY similar every day?

I am! I eat the same 15 or so foods all the time. Certain things rotate in and out of the lineup, but I'm perfectly content eating the same things/meals every day. And I've been doing this for nearly nine years!

I've read studies that say this is an effective weight loss/maintenance strategy and it helps to control eating. We're hard wired to eat more when a variety of food is presented to us -- it's called the Buffet Phenomenon. Limiting choices tends to limit our portions. Works for me!

I do that a lot. Sometimes its days, sometimes weeks, even months. Then I feel like trying something different.

Sometimes I think it's a way to have as much as I want of something without overeating it.

But it's also just convenient.

Yes, me too! It simplifies calorie counting, especially with my poor memory. Also, like Meg, I find that boring meals help me stay on track. I really don't try to make my food too delish -- that makes it harder to stay on plan.

I have a different set of standard meals depending upon whether I spend the day at home or at work. I make sure I get a good cross-section of nutrients/superfoods but I am sometimes concerned that I am not getting the variety that I should be.

I have the same breakfast every single day, and I'm quite happy with it. Lunches and dinners revolve around the same basic foods, there really isn't too much change, but I like it that way. I know the general calories for everything so I can quickly check my math in my head and plan things way in advance with no problem. And because I know what I want, grocery shopping is super easy.

I eat about 15 things, as well, but that was always true--it's just the 15 things used to be hot dogs and frozen pizza and mac n' cheese and ravioli (what seems like a different person now!) and now those 15 things are baked chicken and carrots and cottage cheese.

I try something new about once a week, maybe less, and sometimes they get added to the rotation. I will often go looking for something that fits a certain nutritional profile (like, "what would be a quick snack that added a little healthy fat and a lot of fiber?" or whatever). Sometimes I will get tired of something and drop it completely for a while.

I eat the same breakfast every day. It consists of two slices of weight watchers wheat bread, 1 tbsp of light peanut butter and a tea sweetened with Splenda and a Tbsp of milk. I never used to eat breakfast at all but since changing my lifestyle, I started with this low calorie (205 cals) breakfast and basically stuck with it. I have tried other options but always felt hungry before lunch when I ate something different.

I have a log of about 10 different lunch options and I usually cycle them. I have a husband and children so dinners have to have some variety. Most nights we have a lean protein like chicken, ground turkey or fish with a salad or cooked veggie and small carb. Sometimes we do a modified taco recipe or homemade mini pizzas. My struggle in the beginning was to find ways to change our family favorites to make them nutritious without making the children feel deprived. It allowed them to make the transition to a healthier diet easily and sometimes without knowing they were eating "diet food"

I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch almost every day. Supper has a little more variety but is still usually one of about 6 choices.

Although right now, I'm on a great losing streak and I've been eating the same thing for supper every night too - and now I'm afraid to stop! lol!!

I also eat the same things over and over. I eat some variation on this theme - oatmeal for breakfast with nuts and fruit, broccoli or greens with a bean or soup dish, and dinner is a giant salad.

We rotate stuff through the lineup, but this is basically what we eat. And frankly, when I don't eat it, I miss it. I'm not bored. I love what I eat and how it makes me feel.

I'm definitely a creature of habit! I love the foods I eat so I tend to stick with the same things and haven't gotten bored yet. It's really worked well for me as a maintainer.

I wish I could do this! A lot of meals are similar - using the same foods in slightly different ways. But I can not eat the same foods all the time - that makes me get bored and getting bored makes me eat out. I have no issue buying the same foods all the time - I definitely have my staples I just can't eat it the same way.

Funny that some of you say a boring helps you stay on track - that does not work for me. I have to have something calorie friendly that I look forward to; if I am bored I can not eat it. Or if I think I won't like it or that it is boring, I take a few bites and throw it away. Especially during lunch at work - it is too easy to walk and get sushi or my favourite hot and sour soup!

I also really enjoy cooking! Though coming up with dinner can be a pain - I do still enjoy it and look forward to making new things. I guess I am also a creative person so coming up with creative meals is fun.

I do that sort of. I try to mix it up, but I find it is convenient to eat things I already know the servings/calories for.
