I avoid buying new clothes at the moment because I don't want to invest in something I'm hoping won't fit me by next year. And I also never buy things too small for me because I can't tell if they will fit right after I lose weight anyway. But I went by a local thrift store this morning and they were having an all clothing for $1 sale. Seriously, I just could NOT resist $1 jeans. So I bought three pairs, that I love, and they are all too small.
One pair is just a little bit too snug (and they are stretchy too which helps) so I'm thinking they will be good in 5 to 10 pounds. The next pair is quite a bit smaller and actually fit the way the pair of jeans I'm wearing now (which are getting too loose ) did two summers ago....and the third pair I really can't even get up one leg. And they may not even fit after I get to my goal weight, but I'm not giving them away until I'm sure cause they are definitely my favorite.
So I guess I now have three mile markers for the last bit of my weight.
Have any of you ever done this? Gotten "goal" clothing?
Well, I haven't gotten goal clothing but I am willing to buy things at the thrift store on a whim. Something that fits but 'will look a little better when I'm down a few more pounds' kind of thing.
At a buck for each item, I say it's money well spent and I'd certainly take a chance on it!
BTW, the thrift store is my new best friend too. I just paid $4.30 for a pair of PERFECT jeans. They look as if they've never been worn, fit me as if they were made for me, AND, they don't even need to be hemmed! Very flattering if I do say so myself.
I'm finding plenty of "goal clothing" in my own closet! I just found 3 pairs of pants and a shirt that now all fit! It's like shopping for free, since they are already in my own closet.
I never buy stuff that I can't wear right now, mostly because I'm doing good to afford a few pieces that I can actually wear right now, but a $1 sale at the thrift store, I would probably have every size between 14 and 6 (which I would like to get down to). Congrats on the great finds!
I have not been buying any clothes lately either because I keep thinking that I am going to lose this weight and I have a whole closet full of really nice clothes that are just 2 sizes too small.
Ello, yes of course I have done this - in fact, go ahead and buy something you can really love to picture yourself in. I bought a pair of Designer jeans from SAKS which are about 4 sizes too small for me right now, and a MARC by MARC JACOBS top, to go with them, and I hung them up on the wall right next to my bed, so they are the first thing I see every morning, and the last thing I see every night. and I close my eyes and picture myself wearing them and loving it!
also - maybe set aside a little bit of money each week, as much as you can spare and put this into your vacation fund - for the super hot, fantastic vacation you will go on wearing these clothes when you reach your goal. Just daydreaming about this stuff makes me smile!!
A few months ago (when I was a bigger size 12) I bought hiking pants on mega-sale (they were worn and returned but otherwise new and over 80% off)- one size 12 that fit, one size 10, and two size 8. I don't normally buy goal clothes either, but hiking clothes are the one thing I can't stand wearing when they're too big. I've found that having them is really motivating. I'm wearing the 10s now, and I'm using getting down to a certain weight as incentive to try on the the 8s.
I have gotten goal clothing MANY times, and I've yet to fit into any of them BUT I think it's a great idea if A. you're successfully losing weight, like you are (!!!) (I wasn't), B. they're a phenomenal price like you found (if that last pair doesn't fit, you lost $1. Who cares?) and c. they're not miles away from your current weight (I was buying them WAY too small).
I think goal clothes are a great motivator, especially for someone who lives in a good pair of jeans like me! It might be discouraging if you're a 26 and buy a 2 and never get anywhere close, but for you it's so close already that it's totally plausible for you to fit in those other two!
THat's awesome! I would buy 5 pairs at that price, not just one!
Unfortunately, I gave up on looking for jeans at a thrift store long time ago. Everything is too short so I have no other choice than cough up $90 at The Gap.
I usually avoid buying clothes that don't fit because like you I don't know if at my goal weight they will actually fit.. But for that price I would have gotten a few jeans myself..
My goal is to wear a size 10 again (started in a tiiiiiggghhhtt 18W - currently ready for a 14, wearing really baggy 16 no "W").
I bought a pair of size 10 jean capri's at WalMart for a goal, record keeping pair pants. Each month on the 4th I try them on and take a picture of how far up they go (this pic is for my eyes only - motivation for me). I began this journey in earnest on Jan. 4th so thats why I do it on the 4th.
They go further up each time I try them on. My main reason for doing this picture thing is so I can look back when I really AM in a size 10 and see how far I've come. If you're like me, after you can wear that new size a while, you start to forget how far you've come and if you're having a "fat day" that new sized body still feels big. Does that make sense? I still can't fathom those pants coming all the way and actually buttoning, but they will one day!
I had said "no new clothes until I hit goal" but I looked like a clown.
so I went to Goodwill and Salvation Army last weekend and bought myself 10s and 12s and I'm amazed at how great I look...bought some nice blazers and blouses too. I feel so nice. I also found a few shirts (I think about 5) that are too snug but are really expensive brands or beautiful colors that I decided to buy anyway that should fit me in one size down or at goal. Again, if they don't I'm not out much money...and they may be worth more than the $1.50 or $2 I spent if I submit them at a consignment store.
