Default Going to a party, don't know what to do.

I am going to a party for my bible study group at someones house, it's sort of a housewarming party type thing as well. I know there will be alot of finger food snacks and cheetos type snacks. I can resist the temptation but I don't want to have to explain to everyone I am not eating them because I am trying to lose weight, it's just not something I want to bring up. What should I do?

You could fib and say you'd just had a large meal?
Or take a healthy option like a fruit or veggie tray just to be nice and then stick to that.

I second taking your own plate of something

A) it's polite to take something along anyway and

B) It gives you a healthy option you know will be available and that you can fall back on.

Losing weight is also a long term commitment... don't be afraid to enjoy life a little along the way. I'm going to dinner at my sisters tonight for her birthday and I know there will be things there I shouldnt eat. I'll be taking some dips and rice crackers which I know I can have a few of and wont hurt the budget. However i will be indulging in a glass or two of red because hey, its a special occasion and being healthy is for life.

I don't want to be miserable while I'm here!

Have a great time!

Oh and you dont have to have a reason for not wanting to eat something. Just don't - you don't need to explain yourself to anyone.

I agree with everything above - bring something healthy that you can snack on (because its polite as well as so you're covered) and eat something before hand so you're not terribly hungry.

Being gluten free I NEVER eat stuff other people prepare unless they are EXTREMELY experienced in GF cooking. So I'm in that kind of situation quite a lot. I just bring something to share (so I know something there is safe) and eat beforehand. It's rare that someone even notices and if they do a short explanation is enough. They're there for other things! Have fun!
