Default Gradual changes

Wow! Since I've been on this diet, I've really cut fast food out of my diet. I used to eat it at least three times a week. I have only had it once this year, up until last night. A friend and I ran to Wal-Mart, and I hadn't had dinner yet, so I decided to run to Wendy's. I got a small fry and a Frosty (not the healthiest, but I still had enough calories left for them).

After I ate them, my stomach was rumbly and upset. And this morning was not fun. I got on the scale, and apparently I had gained three pounds in a day. TMI alert--> I quickly learned where those three pounds were after a potty break.

Anyway, the whole point is I have gradually gotten my fast food addiction out of my system and now I don't even want it after thinking of how it messed with my system. Yay! Small victory, I guess.

I totally understand what you mean!! After eating some of the things I used to eat, I wonder how I did it!! I never ate super badly, but for about two months my senior year of HS I was BIG on fast food. On a car trip a while back we stopped somewhere to get gas that ONLY had a Burger King, and I got what I used to get and felt soooooooo ill!!

In a way it made me happy...I totally get what you're saying!! It's just reassurance that your body LIKES the better food, even if sometimes it's hard for your MIND to make good choices.

Way to go!

I completely understand. I went for a walk this morning and I live a couple houses down from a fast food restaurant. The smell was blown towards me and all I smelled was grease. I felt sick just smelling it. I'm happy that I'm teaching my body not to like junk anymore. I haven't had any junk, candy, or chocolate for 4 days straight and I've lost 4lbs... ^_^

Congratulations!!!!!!! on your victory.

I never really liked fast food but I could tolerate it if I wanted too when I was at my highest weight. My family has fish frys about 4 times a year, deep fried fish, shrimp, puppies, slaw, jambalaya, the works. I have to get into fish stash before my dad cooks so I can get some pieces out for me that I can grill or bake because my stomach and other digestive organs simply can not handle the fat, grease, and oil anymore.

I had a similar experience when I ate chocolate for the first time in about 4 months. It was very odd to me, and left this strange too-sweet coat in my mouth, no matter how much I drank. It also tasted different than I remember- I could taste more of the coffee-like tartness.

Anyway, I have no desire to have chocolate again any time soon.

I can't WAIT until I get to this point in my weight loss (if that happens). I'm still craving coffee crisp and slurpees from 7-eleven, and I live just down the street. However, my roommate had to get some stuff for baking, and we went there, and I actually didn't get anything. Lol, I'm proud! (Not really, but it's a baby step).

PS.. I just thought of.. To loss WEIGHT.. You hav to WAIT to lose.. Hmm.. Ponder..

Good job on trying to cut fast food out. I used to eat it probably every night bc my weight was causing me to feel lazy and not want to cook. I haven't had fast food once this year and that is an awesome accomplishment. None of it sounds good except for pizza and luckily I have been fixing pita pizzas all the time and they are really healthy and low carb. Woohoo

Ever since I became a vegetarian, I've had no choice but to avoid fast food (besides Taco Bell, and only then, a burrito). I don't even like french fries anymore. I haven't had fast food in over a year. (I don't count Taco Bell because it's not fried and greasy and relatively healthy, much much healthier than McDonald's)

I used to crave it, but now, not at all. I don't miss it. And it sounds like you won't miss it either!

Is subway actually healthy? Lol. Apparently black olives are really good for you, but mayo isn't (I don't actually know what is/isn't.. I'm not at that stage yet!)

And I didn't know taco bell was somewhat healthy! That's good to know!

I HATE Subway. I just think it's really disgusting. even when I wasn't a veggie. Something about how it smells in there.

Anyways, the Subway diet is healthy, as long as you don't get mayo or cheese.

I haven't had any fast food in a couple months, but my aunt and mom like to stop by the grocery store and buy their baked chicken and wedge fries... I can see the grease on those wedge fries, and it doesn't make me sick yet. Hopefully one day it will though! Then I wouldn't be eating them. They're just too yummy to say no to when that's what's for supper.

One of the things that helped me get past the fast food stage was learning about how truly awful the quality is. They use grade F meat. Don't even get me started on the lack of sanitation. Literally, there's poo in the meat! Ew!

I also learned that a lot of that stuff I could make myself and it would a) be healthier, b) taste better, and c) look much prettier

For example, I certainly still get burger cravings and if I truly have to have a burger and I don't feel like making one, I will splurge and spend a couple extra bucks and hit up the grill down the street. Usually though, I make it at home using turkey or 93/7 ground beef or sirloin. Once I did that, I noticed that my cravings were few and far between.

My husband still makes fun of me for an "incident" that happened a couple of years ago. We had been out drinking and had stopped at Wendy's on the way home. I got a cheeseburger and was stoked about it. I hadn't had a fast food cheeseburger in a couple of years. Well, we get home and unwrap the food and I was so shocked at how gross and ugly the burger was that I threw it against the wall and burst into tears (I wasn't exactly sober ).

Yeah, my mom makes fries at home (out of real potatoes, though) but she covers them with salt and they are deep fried and they look SO gross.. But I eat them anyway because they taste SO good..

And that is hilarious, Junebug!! Who cleaned it up? Lol.. That'd be gross to clean up.. pickle juice, ketchup.. mustard.. yuck.. Or whatever you eat on cheeseburgers.

PS, my last post on this thread I meant to say mayo ISN'T.. Not is.. Lol.
