Hmmm, looks like the gremlins have been eating posts again, and all the postings from this morning are missing in action. Suzanne's latest post says all should be back to normal now, and that the problems should be rectified.
I did a quick read first thing this morning, but my over 40 memory can't remember much of what was said!!
Judy, I think you said you had a very small loss, but you're right, the scale is inching down in the right direction. Hopefully by the time you read this you'll have had your first workout on your treadmill. Look for big losses once you're able to get active on a regular basis.
Karen C, I would love to spend a day with your goats! We had two goats when I was a teen, aren't they the most fun animals?!
Carla, hope your business trip goes well, and that you manage your food challenges well...I think you're right, the best you'll be able to manage is being wise about portion control. Makes it hard when you're not in control of how the food is prepared and not knowing what's really in it.
If anyone else posted today, I completely missed you.
I'm hoping to be able to report a good loss in the morning, the scale gods have been smiling most of the week. Mike and I are both losing together; makes it so much easier when we're both thinking the same way foodwise. On Saturday morning we went to the public market and bought tons of fresh fruit and veggies, fresh sea bass, and beef tenderloin. We've been eating like royalty ever since... Mike does the bulk of the cooking, but now he's bringing out the measuring spoons and cups for everything!
KarenB Come on down, there are new babies every morning.Good luck with your weigh in, I'll be rooting for you! How nice to have your husband dieting with you and doing most of the cooking! My husband does most of the cooking, but he's been eating low carb for years, so it doesn't do me much good. For example, when I came home Sunday evening he had cooked steak, chicken and burgers!
Karen C - sounds like goat heaven; There's nothing like watching kids frolicking. How many do you have? Steak, chicken and burgers?!? That's quite a meal! Yes it is nice having Mike do tjhe majority of the cooking. He's home this week as his next job doesn't start till next week, the togetherness is a bit much, but it's keeping me out of the kitchen.
Four more pounds gone! I know I can't keep up this loss rate, but it's nice to be heading downward.
It's a beautiful frosty morning, so we're off to the beach with the dogs. This afternoon we're going to Mike's aunt's funeral. I never met her; she was 91 and had been tube fed for a year, so it's a blessing that she finally passed away.
Karen B - Congrats on a great loss! I've decided to do the best I can with meals out of town and not fret about it. One thing I know I have to do is eat more slowly so that my meals aren't inhaled before I can even think about leaving some behind. It's nice that you and Mike are at the same place in terms of eating, etc. And nicer still that he does most of the cooking.
Karen C - That meal sounds like something my husband would make.
I think winter is finally settling in around these parts - its grey and snowy. Perfect day for settling in on the couch with a good book and a cup of tea. Too bad I'm at work.
Sounds like the posts disappeared and I missed out on what is going on. I was waiting for Sara to call and let us know how much she spent on books so I could transfer the money from her account. Didn't want to tie up the phone line.
Karen B - Congratulations on the great loss. I'm sure it helps having Mike losing with you. Darrell does most of our cooking too, but he tends to only make the meat. I have to come up with the veggies and fruit.
Karen C - Sounds like a meal Darrell would make!
Carla - Your post must have disappeared before I got here. When do you leave? Sounds like you have a good plan. Just slowing down and keeping your goals in mind will help with the eating.
The weekend was so-so for me. I didn't have any idea what food would be at my sister's birthday party, but I knew we would be eating late. I ate a big salad at my usual dinner time, but still did too much nibbling at the party. Sunday was Laura's birthday and we planned on taking her out for dinner. I took her shopping in St. Louis all afternoon and she didn't feel like going out to eat that evening. At least then I was able to stay OP. I was wanting to start to do some weight workouts this week, but my back has been hurting since Sunday night...probably too much standing at the party and then walking all afternoon. Anyway I'm trying to take it easy for a few days.
Pat - Parties are so hard. It's so tempting to nibble even if you're not hungry. I hope your back feels better soon. I'm going out of town on business to our division's headquarters for a "rah rah let's have a good year" meeting. I leave tomorrow afternoon and come back Friday afternoon. So lots of eating out. Happy belated birthday to Laura.
Yup, the posts are gone - I didn't get a chance to get on yesterday - the only "up" side is there is a little less for me to catch up on!
Karen B - Fantastic loss! Way to go. I'm sorry to hear about Mike's aunt. Mmm, your trip to the public market sounds like you have some great meals coming your way. Yes, I did finally get on the treadmill for a 30 minute walk last night - I used the "summit" program (as in climbing a summit) and it was great. I'd love to try a run tonight but I have to be sure I take it very slowly (with my ankle).
Karen C - Steak, chicken and burgers?!? I don't think I could stick with a high protein diet - I know my cholesterol wouldn't like it either.
Carla - I think watching your portions is the best you can do under those circumstances - that, and drinking a lot of water (as long as running to the bathroom isn't a problem!) Oh boy, I can just put myself in your shoes and I know how much you'll be (figuratively) rolling your eyes at the "rah rah let's have a good year" meeting.
Pat - I'm sorry to hear that your back is bothering you. I agree with Carla - parties are hard but remember, without the effort you made and without the progress you've made with the program, it would have been a lot worse. Happy belated birthday to Laura.
I've had a couple of rotten days at work topped off by this morning. I was reading my email last night at around 9:30 and there was a note from the person (user) who is leading a meeting on one of our projects that was sent around 7:30 pm. She sent a note with the meeting agenda (the meetings have been at 9:00) and put the time of the meeting at 8 am. Since the meeting involved people in the London office, I didn't know if she had changed the time of the meeting or made a mistake. I figured since it was too late to reach her I'd get to work in time for the 8:00 which means taking the 6:09 train. I get her and there's a note from her (sent at 11:30 pm) that the 8:00 was a mistake! I can't wait for this week to end. Anyway, the good news is that even though work has been stressful, I've managed to stay OP and banked 5 points on Mon/Tuesday even though the PMS monster has been stomping around my house. I got in a lot of walking yesterday - to and from Penn Station (about 2 miles) and the 30 minutes on the treadmill. I'm having lunch with a friend today that will be about 8-10 points (a very yummy soy burrito - hold the sour cream and guacamole) - the last time we'll be able to do it easily since I'm moving to midtown on Friday. The sneak peek is looking good and I'm planning on keeping it that way!
Hi Judy, sorry about the rotten day at work, hope today goes better. I'm glad you're enjoying your new treadmill. I think I'll have to get one eventually, the healthrider just isn't cutting it anymore. I need to do more walking. Yoga is going great. The instructor told me yesterday that he had read a journal article about yoga being excellent for arthritis. Already my shoulder is feeling better, so hopefully I will be feeling better all over soon.
Weighin today: minus 2.5 pounds! YEA for me. All the extra exercise is working! Everyone, have a great day.
I'm on my way in a couple of hours. It's been over a year since I've last got on a plane and I'm not the best flyer, so I'm a bit apprehensive. Might have to spend a couple of points on bad plane wine.
Judy - Sorry to hear about your rotten day yesterday and especially about the time snafu with this morning's meeting. Nothing good ever comes of reading e-mail late in the evening. I've been practicing keeping a neutral expression on my face in anticipation of the meeting. Hey look at you banking points in the face of stress and PMS. You're doing great. I know the scale is going to reward you on Saturday! Keep up the good work.
Karen C - Congrats on a great loss! I'm glad to hear that Yoga is helping your shoulder.
The scale was up 1.2 pounds today. However, my fingers are puffy and my rings are tight and I haven't been good about getting in my water the last few days, so I think I know what that's about. Not going to fret, just going to do better this week.
I'm out of here in a couple of hours. I'll check in Friday afternoon, when I'm back in the office. That is if I make it back in the office. I'm not looking forward to the return trip as Friday is when they start scanning all bags - checked and carry-on. I'm thinking delays and long, long lines. This trip is so not worth it.
Just home from work; had to sit all day in a meeting in which they supplied muffins in the morning after I had breakfast at home, then they ordered pizza from pizza hut for lunch. Did I have the willpower to say no thanks, I brought my own carefully calculated lunch today? Nooooooo...so today has been a major write off. I did manage to get all my water in; I had to leave the meeting about 23 times to pee though! Oh well.
Bon voyage Carla! Too bad your destination wasn't a little more fun!
Judy, if that woman had sent me an email with an erroneous ungodly meeting time, she'd be on my hit list for months...we Aries types don't forgive and forget. Yay on banking, and glad you're enjoying the treadmill.
Karen C - HOORAY on your fabulous loss! You're doing great. I can't wait to be well into my losing journey like you are. I only hope I have the perserverence to keep it up. Great that your shoulder is feeling so much better with the yoga.
Pat, hope your back is better. Walking while shopping is a great way to get some exercise - fun too!
Karen B - Why thank you so much! Resolve, that seems to be the key word, doesn't it? Here's what works for me: first, I try to focus on how much better I feel, and how much better I will feel when I get to goal. I have rough times, like today when the scale is up and I start feeling sorry for myself. That's when I give myself a good shake and congratulate myself on making it one more day. It's one day at a time around here. Another thing that works for me is allowing myself muffins and pizza and whatever else I want, enjoying it without guilt, then going on. I do this rarely, once a month. But the most important part of my resolve is the support I find here, so thank you for being there!
Karen C - Congratulations on that great loss - way to go! I'm so glad you're enjoying yoga. I did a great workout on the treadmill this morning - there's actually a tape with different moves on the treadmill - it was tough but fun. Hmmm, I like the idea of the "free" day - I can see doing that once a month - maybe when Tony and I go out to dinner - just not think of it for one day and then right back on.
Carla - I'm sorry to hear about the gain but you know it's water. Your attitude about it is great - good for you! I know what you mean - I'm not a good flyer either - but I had to laugh at "bad plane wine". I hope your trip has as little aggravation as possible (and the meeting isn't too barfy). I know there will be delays at the airports now but I know I'll feel better flying with the security tightened. You are so right about reading email late - that's the problem with the blackberry - it makes it easy to read email in the evening - I think I'm going to set a time and turn it off afterwards. They don't pay me to be on 24/7!
Karen B - sorry to hear about the tough day food-wise at work. Listen, count up the points and forget it. Make the rest of the week an OP week - I'm convinced that that is what naturally thin people do. I also know that when I am very strict with myself in those circumstances, sometimes I set myself up for a binge later. One of the things I want to work on as "skill for living" is to let myself have a little bit and then stop. I have a way to go of course, but that's one of my goals. Yeah, I was pretty ticked off but I did get a lot of work done (and packing) - but yes, this Aries has out her on the "list" :-)
I had a bit of a rough night yesterday. I think it was a "release from stress" thing - we got our salary/bonus info. I ended up having a very pleasant surprise (they had been painting the bonus picture as very, very bleak) - it was nice to hear that the banking folks recognized us tech folks in the merger work we did. When I got home I went to an open house at Adelphi University (which is very close) to talk to some people about their education program. Just info at this point. Dinner was a pretty low point affair but I got the sweet and salty PMS cravings last night. I managed to stop short of damage - I even have enough points for a decent (though low point) breakfast and lunch - so that's a victory of sorts. I did that fun treadmill video this morning. I didn't do all the moves or the entire tape because it was pretty advanced and I've lost a lot of cardio capacity in the last 5 months but I worked up a good sweat for about 35 minutes and earned some activity points.
Wow, it sure is quiet around here this week. Not too much to report. PMS cravings were a bit of a pain last night but I didn't go overboard and may even bank a couple of points (since my "day" ends at lunch). Today is moving day at work and I am on the lookout for emotional snacking. Lots of things combining to make this a "dangerous" day. Moving uptown really seems like the end of the old company. Plus, I also feel a little like I am abandoning downtown - reminds me of the 11th. Anyway, something to watch out for. If I don't get back on (they disconnect us at 1 pm), have a great weekend.
