Vickie, I liked Terry's advice, with maybe eating them 3 times a week. If you miss them that much, then I would think that not eating them would not fit into the "I'm eating like this now" thinking. Or if you could find a substitute, that would be great too.

I would try the WW cereal. Do they make a Core one.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to eater Cheerios with caution and maybe I'll try some of the Core cereals to see if I can get to like one of them. I tried Fiber One a long time ago, before Core. Maybe I should give it a try now.

I looked at all of the Core cereals but didn't see anything marked Core. Now if it has no sugar added and is whole wheat, wouldn't that be Core??

I bought some of the Kashi Heart to Heart cereal for my kids recently. If it's the same one, it's really, really sweet.

Check the fiber count on any cereal you eat. The higher the better, up to a point. Cheerios is made with white flour, if I remember right. That's why it's a no-no. But I focus the fiber. Besides I like Cheerios too much.

I still haven't checked out the list of Core cold cereals. I'm scared to keep eating the Cheerios. I didn't know about the white flour, Doss. If that's true, then that's the main reason that they aren't Core. Pooh. I guess I'll save them as a rare treat. I REALLY want cold cereal and Fiber One wasn't too good the last time I tried it. I'm gonna check out the Kashi cereals to see if any of them are Core. Thanks Girls. You've all been real sympathetic. And...thanks for the honesty, too. I didn't want you all to just say go ahead and eat them because I'm so pathetic!

I looked up the ingredients. There's no white flour, but there is corn starch and sugar, which are probably enough to keep them off the Core list. Trader Joe's does sell its own brand of Cheerios. I've also seen O's cereal in bulk bins and my Co-op and at Henry's (Wild Oats). I haven't checked the ingredients, though, because I don't buy cereal for myself.

I'm on a mission to find a good tasting Core cold cereal. I'll share when I find it. I guess in the meantime, I'll count points for my Cheerios. I'm so sad.

what about making your own cereal? i just finished making some granola that's core. most large grocery stores have sf syrups over in their coffee sections now. i've seen sf hazelnut. that would prob work. or--if you don't mind ordering online you can get numerous flavors at the davinci website. i just finished making granola using sf white chocolate syrup. these syrups are watery not like pancake syrups. they are mostly water, splenda, and flavoring.

the next thing you'd need to locate is kasha. i think terry knows where you can get them. i get mine online at truefoodsmarket. i got 5 lbs for about $14 or so including the shipping. they got here in less than a week.

i posted the recipe for the homemade granola over in either breakfasts or desserts. i can't remember which. you might give that a go. it's core!

I just skimmed through....DH eats Kashi Heart to Heart likes its going out of style. We go through boxes a week. Its the one thing I "splurge" on b/c it is so good for him. It is high in fiber but has some sugar. If I'm in a pinch I eat it as Core but it isn't really. Kashi puffed cereal is core--I bought some but haven't tried it yet.

I've had Kashi puffed, and I liked it. Of course, I piled on the fruit and Splenda, but I thought it had a nice crunchy, chewy texture - better than plain puffed wheat. My mom hated it though, so I guess it's a personal taste thing. As far as the other Kashi cereals, I have no idea. I'm allergic to soy protein, so anything that has "good for you soy!!!" in it, I have to avoid. Not "good for" me.

Vickie, have you ever tried Butter Buds or Molly McButter on your farina? Then you wouldn't have to count points for the Smart Balance, but you could still get that buttery flavor. Just a thought.

I eat Malt o Meal almost every day - if not that, then I have hot oat bran cereal (very similar to farina), coco wheats, puffed wheat or shredded wheat. I always add fruit, because that gives me a fruit serving.

Good cereal hunting!

Do you have multi-grain cheerios where you are? You might check the NI as they are probably higher in fibre? My dh lives on the stuff everymorning, with some bran buds w/psyllium added on top for even more fibre!
