Hello everybody, I'm new, obviously. I've been doing FlexPoints for the past few weeks and lost weight at first, but recently I've been abusing the plan by binging, eating when I'm not hungry, and making poor nutritional choices. For example, I would eat about 7 bowls of cereal at 8 o'clock in the morning and use up all of my Target Points in that one sitting. And then I'd starve myself for the rest of the day and feel miserable. It's become a destructive cycle, and I need a change of pace. I also want to start learning how to maintain without obsessing over numbers. I think Core will help me with all this.
I haven't officially joined Weight Watchers or Core. I'm thinking I'll have a trial week based off the general list and see how it goes. I have a few questions about the food list though, if that's okay.
1. Are brand name products allowed? For example, tomato sauce is Core, right? It is only Core if it's homemade, or would a brand name be okay (like Ragu or something)? Also is Campbell's Tomato Soup Core?
2. Is oatmeal considered a cereal? I know the cereal cannot have added sugar. I looked at Quakers Oatmeal (the plain kind) and it has a gram of sugar, so it that Core or not? And is is true that Cream of Wheat is Core?
That's about it. I'm a little unsure about how many kinds of foods are permitted in one day, for instance you can have brown rice but if you do you cannot have a potato that day, right? I guess I'll get the hang of it, but it looks so confusing at first!
It's not confusing once you have all the information. However, there is much information you need in order to do the program. My advice is to do join a meeting so that you get the week one book and also that you buy the Complete Food Companion. These two books will answer 95% of your questions.
Tomato Sauce is Core but I'm not sure about tomato soup because I don't eat it. Quaker non-instant oatmeal is Core. I don't know about the sugar, maybe it's natural and not added or maybe even if it is added, WW has determined that oatmeal isn't a trigger food unless it has all those extra flavorings in it. Cream of Wheat is Core. You can only have rice/potato/whole wheat pasta at one meal.
I really think you need to buy the materials. Good Luck!
Campbell's Tomato Soup is core, and so is Campbell's Select Tomato Garden, Campbell's Low Sodium Tomato with Tomato Pieces soup, Campbell's Soup at Hand Classic Tomato, Progresso Tomato Basil, and Progresso Zesty Herb Tomato. Those are all the tomato soups I see on the soup list.
I might be mistaken about this, but I think plain Quaker instant oatmeal is Core as well, but it's sorta nasty unless you add something.
Like was stated Core is 'complex' at first and you really do need the information you can get. While a meeting was suggested there are otherways to get the information (offiically):
1) Join online - you pay a monthly fee (under $20) or can do a payment every 3 months for under $50. There is a registration fee though just like joining meetings.
2) Join the 'at home' program which is about $100 but can be divided up on a credit/debit card over 3 months...you get all the info you need just like you'd get at meetings or online.
Thanks everybody! I know that I should get officially aquainted with Weight Watchers. I guess I'm hesitating because I'm 16, my parents would discourage me because I range between healthy and underweight. I'm 5lbs from my goal, and technically those 5lbs don't mean much to me anyway. I wanted to try Core because I'm hoping it will help teach me healthier everyday eating - I don't really want to make an investment to lose weight, I just want to stabilize and maintain it by healthier food choices.
Is there any way to purchase the full list and guidebook without actually committing to WW? I don't want to spend a lot of money when I'm not really trying to lose more weight, I'm just interested in the plan. If I stopped in my local Weight Watchers, would I be able to buy the information from them and then never have to come back? I'm just looking for the information, not necessarily support.
I've started Core since this morning and so far I love it. If it continues to go well I hope I can convince my Mom to do it with me. The freedom is wonderful but I'm also somewhat nervous because I don't want to take advantage and eat too much.
It actually depends on the region if you can just walk into W/W and purchase their books and food and products. My region you have to be a member in good standing to buy, other regions anyone can buy. YOu could try e-bay if you really want it but I agree if you are in the 'healthy' or 'underweight' range you just need to talk to a dietitician or nutritionist and get and idea of what are good healthy foods.
If you border on being underweight, WW will not let you join. Its admirable that you want to eat better, but be careful. Your question about tomato sauce sound like you meant pasta sauce since you mentioned Ragu. Those sauces are not core. The tomato sauce in little cans that is just made from tomatoes, salt and water is.
