Default Core & Pregnancy?

I have just recently found out that I am expecting and would like to follow the Core program to help keep my weight gain reasonable this time around. Since it is a lifestyle/healthy eating plan and NOT a diet, it should pose no problems, as long as I add a little extra dairy, oil, and vitamin, right?
I know this is the case if you are breastfeeding, which I am ALSO doing. I have been planning to dedicate to this program for over a month, and now that I am preg it seems very important- I gained 50lbs last time. And this time I am a bridesmaid 4 weeks after my due date!!
If anyone is in a similiar situation or just has advice or comments, I would really appreciate it!

Congratulations!

Okay, I am just not sure what you should do. Maybe talk with your OB first. We plan on trying again in January so I will be in the same boat with you. I plan on staying with Core during my pregnancy as well.

Also, I am currently nursing too.

Congrats!! When are you due? I would do the same, I would follow Core still, maybe by doing the maintenance phase (35 WPA's plus 28 to maintain) drink extra milk and yes take your prenatel. Just follow your body though, if you are hungry then eat Core items and keep the junk at a minimum. Of course, talk it over with your doc but I know that if I got pregnant again I would follow core to a T so that I wouldn't have a ton of weight to lose after the baby was born. I always gained too much with each pregnancy. So good luck and I'm so excited for you!

Hey Guys,
Please check with your docs in this regard. I know that folic acid is crucial for moms to take during their pregnancy. Good luck and for keeping your weight gain to a reasonable amount.

My understanding is Folic Acid is more important before you get pregnant. You should also be taking a prenatal vitamin. I did and still do since I am nursing.

You are right Anne... the critical time for folic acid is the first few weeks of pregnancy so you need to be taking it before you ever know you are pregant. But of course a good prenatal vitamin is important throughout the rest of the pregnancy too.

Hello, Congratulations how exciting.
I want to prefece this by saying you should ask your ob/gyn. In saying that I have been told that on a current calorie plan where you are maintaing, not loosing weight, during pregnancy you would only need an additional 300 calories daily for healthy baby growth. Your prenatal vitamins are obviously important and make sure that your extra 300 calories are from lean protein sources and healthy fruits, veggies and grains. During my first pregnancy I did not eat simple sugars and very little "white" starchy carbs. Not in an effort to lose weight but to control weight gain and to make sure the baby was recieving the healthiest foods. My pregnancy was very normal and baby was very healthy. Your Dr. or the hospital dietician will have printed info on a "pregnacy" type food pyramid with recommended calorie guidelines. I hope this was of help!!! Enjoy this time, a healthy pregnancy is priceless.

Thanks to everyone for their advice! I will talk to my doctor about it when it is time to see her, however my appointment isn't for quite a few weeks. I actually changed my plan. I decided to follow Flex Pts, which I find a lot easier and more enjoyable. I am using the Nursing Pts plan along with my Prenatal Vitim (took Folic Acid before got PG , switched after) and ensuring get in dairy pts and use olive oil when cooking once a day.
Any thoughts on this?
Oh- and the bridesmaid thing is much less of a stress now. We are getting our dresses made, so I think I will wait until I am ~5months along, then get measured for it. I can always get it altered!
Thanks again!
