Core Chat - Sept 1-7th
New pages!
|
Hi everyone and Happy Labor Day!! We have another cookout today and I'm really going to try to be core all day. The best I can do is try. Then no more excuses starting tomorrow. The extra weight I've gained this month is now making some clothes uncomfortable. No more fooling around, I need to get back on the wagon instead of waving as it goes by :)
So, I just made core coleslaw and have a nice pork roast to cook tomorrow. I also have salsa chicken in the freezer for my lunches as I'm back to work on Wednesday. I think that will help my eating -- the past 2 weeks off has been a detriment to my weight control plan. Its not worked as well as I hoped. Oh well, its a new day and a new month. What are your goals for this month? My main one is to get back on track! |
Good Morning Chicks!
Yep, Paula. I thought being retired would make it easier for me to lose weight. NOT! I realized that I've got so much to do this week that I've no hope of catching up with everyone. I do have to say...... WAY TO GO SANDRA!!!! You did awesome for your first week. Now let's just go weigh in for our second week and move on the the awesome third week. I'm doing ok but I could have done better. Today is a new day. I can swim in my pool today and tomorrow so I hope to get some great exercise to help me out. Then the temperature drops into the mid to high 70's which is too cool for me to swim. Have a great day and DRINK YOUR WATER!!!!!! |
Hi All:
I don't know if others have been having trouble, but I got kicked off and had to reset my password, etc. Don't know why. We went out with friends for brunch, and I caved into 1/2 piece of chocolate pie. Could'a been worse ;) I'll see if I can exercise it away today :exercise: I hope everyone is having a good day! Rhonda |
Hi Ladies:)
Thanks Paula for starting us up on this Labor Day Week. my menu today b-instant oatmeal with banana,FF milk d-balsamic shrimp succotash[core recipe]green salad with FF dress. sn-WW smoothie supper-2 hamburgers on 1 WW pita bread[1] des-baked apple. ============================================= When typing up my menu from my food journal I noticed that I only used as of today 26 WPA's. Hope that I'll notice that the scale moved downward this Thursday. Relaxing and watching the finals of the golf playoffs. Than that dreaded center again this Wed.Have a 8:30 appointment so we'll be leaving at around 7 ish and than won't be home until late that afternoon. Also some time this week I'm going to the movies to see either Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants or House Bunny with a friend of mine,so that will be fun. PAULA-Sending you :goodvibes: & :dust: that you stay hard core for the remainder of the week.Thats my goal for the month also, plus I'm planning to eat more raw veggies for snack time also,no more popcorn to munch on. I want to staying away from my WPA as much as possible, maybe by only using no more that 10 WPA's per week. VICKIE-By not means retirement is harder to stay OP as you around food all day, wheres at work you only have a break ever so often and can't reach the foods as easily. Why is 70's too cool for you to go into the pool??? Once you in doesn't warm up??? I know that when I go down to my DD her pool stay warm even when the temp go down. RHONDA-I didn't get kicked off,but than again I'm still posting.Hope it doesn't happen to me as I forgot my password. I'm sure you didn't to any damage eating 1/2 pc of chocolate pie. Just use your WPA's or your AP to rectify the dessert. Have a great afternoon & evening will be back tomorrow morning. Hugs :) |
Rhonda, in the old days you'd have eaten the whole piece. Congratulations on stopping at 1/2.
Jim brought home some bad sirloin. I'm waiting for him to come back with new stuff so that we can get in the pool by 3:30. |
Happy Monday All,
We're back from vacation, it was a nice relaxing time. We went to the Finger Lakes area of NY. Drank too much wine the first couple of days, but surprisingly when I weighed in on Sat stayed the same and Fri night we had steak at home. Of course Sat we went out to my parents and had brats and potato salad :( Oh well, I don't eat like that every day. Today we broke the bikes back out, unfortunately we waited too long and it was pretty warm out, but we still did about 15 miles so I'm pretty happy. Now I won't feel guilty about the corn chips with my avocado salsa this afternoon, although I will abstain from the hurricane and have an iced tea instead. I haven't had a chance to look at last weeks posts, but if I don't get moving I will be starving by the time I get the salsa made and eat too many chips (I will weigh them cross my :val1:). I do have to say though I love Maine, that's where DH and I honeymooned :D. Have a great day everyone, I'll try to catch up tomorrow. -Tech :bike2: |
Yep....it's harder to be around food all day, I think. I'm a weenie with the pool. We don't have a heater so usually here in Chicagoland the pool temperature drops with the temperature of the air. Also, I don't like to get out of a warm pool and have to freeze on the deck until I can come in and warm up.
|
Welcome back, Donna. You did VERY good.
|
Paula, thank you for the clean pages. Sounds like you're having a fun-filled Labor Day. We went to Missoula for a bit and are now home snuggled in afghans. It's raining outside and snowing in the mountains around us. Life is good.
Vickie, I wouldn't get into cool water either. It makes my arthritis ache really really bad. You're right. We need to go wi this week no matter what--then head on to awesome week #3. Donna, I just saw your :ebike: goal for summer. You're inspiring me. Welcome back from vacation. I've never been to Maine but would love to do so sometime. Rhonda, 1/2 a slice of pie isn't so bad. You did well, Cuz. You'll get that exercised off quickly. Maryann, have fun at the movies. |
Hi chicks! It's been a quiet day; not much "labor" going on here. We're just couch surfing and watching movies.
Paula-thanks for the pages and the egg recipe. I like quick things. Sandra-sounds like you are cozy. I'll bet the snow is beautiful. Vickie-I don't blame you. Cold pool water is not my idea of fun. Tech-glad you had a good vacation. What was the weather like? In Tennessee, we have been very hot and humid. Maryann-I saw sisterhood with my dd before she went back to school. We really liked it, but we had seen the first one. Did you see it? Rhonda-good job on the 1/2 piece of pie. Sounds yummy! How many points can it be, anyway? My plans for the rest of the day are the same, couch surfing. As you can imagine, it does not provide much exercise, but is sure is nice. I'll walk after school tomorrow. Later, I plan to make some of the buffalo chicken burgers to freeze for lunch this week. I'll also use some leftovers for lunch. Hope you all have had a great day. TTFN |
HI everyone. I know I have been missing in action, but I found my way back. I think the last time I posted was in July after my camping trip. Well things have gone terrible. I have not been home for the weekends since the 4th of July so you can just imagine the food that has been involved. We were up north Mi for 2 weeks. Did so so, than we had a wedding the following weekend, than a 25th wedding anniversary party, family parties and finally this weekend a wedding. So I ate a lot of junk but I am back and that is a start. I need to plan some meals for myself this week. I start a job so I am in hope that this will detour my eating. I have not worked in 11 years. It is only a 3 day job from 9- 1:30. But the $ is good and the hrs can not be beat. I am home with the dk in the morning and when they get home from school.
Nice to be back...... Barb |
Barb-glad you're back! We always allow "do-overs", so get going! You are right to plan your meals. I think that is one of the most important parts of staying op. You can do this!!!
|
Strange...I was kicked off again. Hmmmm...oh well, the password worked..
You're all right..before now, it would have been the whole piece of pie. As it is, I shared it with a friend, and it was enough. Welcome Back, Barb... My week away from work is over...back at it tomorrow. Here come the students. And, this may well be the last time I welcome students back to a campus...strange, very strange. Rhonda |
Rhonda-I imagine this year you will be marking a lot of "last times". Have you thought of keeping a journal? :write: It might be a good stress reliever as well as a good read in a few years. Hope you have a great day, tomorrow! TTFN
|
Good morning Ladies and welcome back BARB! Well, its time to get serious. Today is my new start. I WILL write down everything on my etools and WILL NOT eat any non core foods today. What is going to be an additional motivator is that I have to go to the Dr this morning for my annual check. She does make me get on the scale which will be up from last year. I'm guessing about 10 pds from last year. No more excuses!
Other than that I need to go to Sears and pick up a wet/dry vac for DH (his died last night) and then to find tap shoes for dd. I did find her ballet slippers/shoes at Target along with her dance leotard and tights. Tomorrow its back to work for me! Have a great day everyone! BBL |
Hi girls, I'm back! I know only posted a few times here but now I'm here for good. I'm off to make some core pancakes in a minute. I've never had them before so this should be fun lol.:) This past week I had an almost 2lb loss and I've been trying to drink more water so I think that helped me this week!! Our labor day was fun, nice cookout and I was really good until I attacked the leftovers later that night lol. Other then that I've done really well and stuck to my guns. DS started 5k this morning, I'm looking forward to getting my exercise routine back in line - now that I have a bit more of some "me time".
I will be back after making the pancakes to respond to everyone else, I'm starved and I need some caffeine - bad!! I must say tho since I last posted I have been wondering(off and on) how everyone was doing, I hope you all had a great holiday weekend.:) |
Good Morning Ladies:)
Hope you ad a wonder Labor day weekend. Leo & I relaxed all day watching the playoff golfing, than we had a BBQ of burgers & potato salad.Stayed OP all day,as I'm hoping for a good W-I this Thursday. DONNA-Welcome back from your vacation. I love Maine also, was suppose to move up that way,but our kids living in NY said they would never visit us as the trip would be to long. So we settled for Cape Cod. You didn't do to bad eat brats & potato salad, like you said it was once, and you exercised 15 miles with your biking, that excellent so that off set the eating. VICKIE-Now I know yes I can agree Chicagoland can get cooler we surround by warm water. SANDRA-Thanks I don't really go to the movies but when there a good movie out there I take the plunge and go. SLOAN-Didn't see the first movie,do I have in order to understand what going on???? Glad you had a nice relaxing day, that the reason for labor day and that including to being a house wife. BARB-Welcome back, gee thats along time being away from home. Just hop on and join the Core OP with exercising & drinking water will get you back on track again. RHONDA-Hope you have a good stressless year. I agree with Sloan writing things down like feeling will relief the stress. PAULA-Good luck at the doctors, hope that scale didn't go up too much. I like the WW e-tools also,as they keep me from going over my 35 points. DANDY-Welcome back to the thread. You'll find that we all have the same problems keeping on program,so glad you joined us again.Never made core pancake, but I have a low carb recipe that I used instead. Have a great morning and I'll see you later Hugs :) |
Good Morning Chicks! I stopped in to read how everyone was doing and now I'm going to eat breakfast.
I'm going to come back and get caught up before I go in the pool. It's supposed to be 90 degrees here today. Drink your water! I'm having a hard time with mine. I wonder what's up with that. |
Yes, Sloan, I've started a diary. Primarily I'm recording what I feel about being here and anticipating the big change that's coming. I love Toronto/Ontario in the late summer and fall. But, we are expecting a harsh winter, and I love it MUCH, MUCH less. I'm a summer girl for sure ;)
OK, everybody's got new motivation it seems. I'll get on the bandwagon. I've got to go to the office, but I'll go to :exercise: class tonight or use a DVD. That's my contribution today. Well, along with being Core for the rest of the day, and drinking my water...just had some for you, Vickie! BBL, Rhonda ps. welcome back Dawn...you can do it. |
Maryann-I don't think you have to see the first movie to enjoy the second one. It is just a "girlie" movie that is fun and makes you feel good.
Rhonda-I'm motivated to stay op, but I'm having a hard time with exercise! Why is that? Vickie-I'm drinking my water. I've already had 16 oz. of water in addition to the coffee I had this morning. I plan on having at least one more bottle before I go home today. 3pm-I had the second one! Dandy-Welcome back :carrot: GTG be a teacher. BBL |
Thanks Sloan,my friend just called and has to work at the end of this week so she made plans for us to see the movie next Tuesday.
Hugs :) |
Happy Tuesday All,
I'm procrastinating cleaning the kitchen and getting the rhubarb chutney made for dinner, it has to sit for 2 hrs before eating so it'll sit while we go to the gym and grill the chops. Thanks for the welcome back. So far today I've done my 1/2 hr of yoga stretching (I'm trying to do that each morning) and met my folks at the park to walk. We try to meet every Tuesday at the park in summer and the mall in winter, it's a nice way to touch base, even if slightly expensive with the higher gas prices. I've also been pretty core, so I'm pretty happy with my day. Paula - I'm going to try those egg substitute cups you posted on the breakfast thread. They sound good, but I think I'll make a cup out of canadian bacon like I saw on Sara Moulton, I hope it'll still freeze well. Rhonda - Don't mention a hard winter. It's 88F here right now. Did you make it to Niagra? Maryann - Glad you had a relaxing holiday. Always a nice time. Vicki - how's your day going? Should definitely be warm enough for the pool today  Dandy - Welcome Barb - Welcome Back. I just came back myself and then left on vacation. Sloan - Sometimes a couch surfing day is a good thing. Glad you had fun. Sandra - My miles include anything that builds up miles (mainly walking and biking), my goal started higher and came down and I still don't think I'll make it. I should meet 250 which would be half my original goal :o, which considering everything is better than nothing. Well I should probably get moving. Have a great day everyone. -Tech |
Donna, I'm still impressed with your "journey." You're doing great.
Rhonda, we have snow in the mountains all around us. We're leaving for Texas Friday week. I'm ready to go home. Today we bought a Goldflame Honeysuckle to take back home. We had one here in MT and loved it. Couldn't find any like it in TX. Who knows? We may start something down there. :welcome: Dawn. It's good to have you back. Sounds like everyone is motivated and doing well. Makes me smile. I'm doing well, too. Good success to all of you--errrrr---us. Let's do it! |

Sandra, just wanted to share this picture (hopefully it shows correctly!)
Oh good ,it worked! |
Hey, look at that..a budding Sandra!!!
Ok, I hope everyone had a good day. I made a "soup" yesterday that is very tasty and simple. I cooked fresh cauliflower in chicken and vegetable stock, then pureed the whole lot of it. I added some skim milk, salt and pepper, and presto, I had cauliflower soup. yum.. Sloan, I think we all have trouble exercising because...despite what "they" say about it taking 45 minutes, it takes more like 1 1/2 hours if not more. You have to count getting ready, getting to the gym or setting up the DVD, doing the exercising, taking a shower, etc...it is a &*#& commitment no matter how much the gurus want to soft pedal that. Most of it don't have much time to take care of ourselves since we're still too busy taking care of others...being the "good" chickies that we are....but, NO more excuses...:coach: I have a long day tomorrow, so I won't likely be on the board much. Night all, Rhonda |
KEWL!!! I love the photo. Tell DD she's a real Robinette.
[img]http://texasfieldarchery.org/images/header_arrows.gif[/] Rhonda, you're right about all that extra time. I ate half a pb/j sandwich tonight. It was on diet bread--but it was peanut butter. I guess I could have (and have) done worse. |
Hey chicks! Hope everyone has had a great day. I've got a bit of PMS, so I feel like I could eat the north end out of a south bound skunk! Have you yankees ever heard that one? I have had a few more points today than I usually have, but I'm still counting them, and I'm okay so far. I did get in my water today, but still no exercise. I think I'm going to get a pedometer and try to log in a certain number of steps per day. Does anyone know the magic number to shoot for? I know there is a recommendation, but I can't remember what it is.
Paula-I absolutely love the photo! Don't know why, but it brought tears to my eyes (must be the PMS). Rhonda-I have to confess, I'm not that busy taking care of others that I don't have time to exercise. I just think I've developed some really bad habits, and need to develop some new ones. I've got to make up my mind to get started and plan ahead just like I do with my food. Maybe the pedometer idea will be doable. Wish me luck! Nighty, night all! |
It's 10,00 steps, Paula.
Donna, we did make it into the pool today. I was in for 3 hours. I'd be surprised if the temperature gets warm enough again. I'm SO sad since it's 9 months until next June. It makes me really wonder if it pays to have an outside pool in Chicago. Hey Sandra. You know we've all done worse. The key is to not let a slip become a collapse. Yep, I'm up in the middle of the night. Something's up with my sinuses. It just must be that time of year. |
Not doing to shabby here, took a peek at the scale (I usually do mid week) and was down 2 lbs. I won't change my tracker until it's official on Friday but I am pretty happy . Got some exercise yesterday I walked with my mom in the morning and DH and I went back to the gym in the evening before dinner. Not sure about today I was hoping to get in a bike ride but it's warm and a little muggy (I don't do heat well and the older I get the worse it gets) so I may leave that for tomorrow. We'll see what I can do today. I'm off to the grocery store to pick up some odds and ends, plus doing laundry. Those jobs seem to be never ending.
I just wanted to add a word of caution to people. I got these energy drink tablets at a party I went too. They're all natural, nothing I hadn't had before. You dissolve them in water add ice and drink. I tried one yesterday, man did they upset my stomach, my heart was racing at the gym and last night I had the worst headache. Apparently they did not agree with me at ALL. My DH goes well you know pot is all natural, that doesn't mean it's good for you. So just be careful what you put in your bodies. Paula - What a cute picture! Sloanie - I hate to exercise myself, and haven't done really well this summer. I think those people who say "you'll love it when you try it" and "you'll get addicted to it" need there heads examined. So what I try to do is be active and do stuff that doesn't sound/feel like exercise even though it really is. I'll walk to the farmer's market (about 2 miles round trip), or dh and I'll walk to dinner (again 2 miles), I ride my bike to WW, or we'll go for a hike or a bike ride on the weekend, or I took my nephew to the pool (let me tell you chasing a 5 yo around a splash pool was exercise), walk around a museum, just something to get me up and off the couch. Oh and I loved the quote that's a new one for me (a yankee for sure). Vicki - 'Tis the season for allergies. Hope you're feeling better. Sandra - Definitely could have been worse. Hang in there. Hope your plant survives the climate change, maybe that's why you couldn't find them in Texas. Rhonda - Hope your day wasn't too stressful. Have a great one everyone. -Tech |
Hi Ladies:)
Sorry for the late post, but I was at the cancer center this morning.Leo wasn't allowed to have his chemo treatment this morning as his blood test showed that hes anemic[white cells are a little low]. Doctor is going to set him up with a decifincy infection just before he enters the chemo room next week. Good news I can't believe that I only used 15 WPA's and have 20 left. I really watches that I stayed on almost hard core, hope the scale shows me something nice with all the effect I took not using them. TECH-Thats a wonderful idea:idea: to set up a time to get walk done either at the park or mall, and better still with your parents. Wish I had my folks around to do that. Leo used to walk with me,but its a effect to get him walking on some days. Thanks:thanks: I need that holiday to relax. Thats great losing 2-lbs before your W-I. I'm hoping for the same. I disparately looking for a Woooooooosh on the scale. RHONDA-SOUP??? That sound good, going to have a cup tonight. Thanks:thanks: for the idea:idea:I'm running out of ways to prepare my suppers.I either had salads or veggies with protein in the evenings. SANDRA-You could  have PB if you really wanted it just use your points. SLOAN-Never:no: heard of that expression. Quote:
VICKIE-Sorry :sorry: you lost your ZZZ's by having sinus problem last night. I think Leo & I have the same problem, its has to be change of seasons thats causing that. Have a great afternoon & evening Hugs :) |
Maryann, I'm sorry that Leo couldn't have his treatment. I really admire you for sticking to your program. I've been known to use lesser excuses to go off program. You are one tough Chickie and example to us all!
|
Maryann, I hope Leo gets his blood count under control and can get back on track with his chemo. I can tell by your posts that you are an exceptionally strong woman. I applaud you.
I'm off program today. Nothing else to say. |
Maryann, hugs to you and Leo. I'll keep him in my prayers.
Tech, congrats on the scale moving! My "official" wi is on Friday am as well. I'm hoping that it moves. Keep it going girl! Rhonda, the soup sounds wonderful. I love cream type soups like that. Have you ever tried to do the same type of thing with butter nut squash or roasted carrots? Very good as well. This reminds me, I had a really good butternut squash curry/ginger soup. I need to find that recipe. I made a lot of soups last winter, could be a nice change! I'm glad everyone liked the picture. She has actually started to hit the target block. DH is very patient with teaching her. Look out Sandra!! I am happy to say I have been OP the past 2 days. I've tracked everything with the etools and have only used 2 points. I've also been walking. I've not weighed myself yet, I'll do that Friday am. I was lucky at the DRs office - they just asked me what I weighed. And I TOLD THE TRUTH! Go figure! Well, off to get dd to bed. One more day until her first day at kindergarten. The oreintation is tomorrow. Very exciting!:D Have a good night. |
Maryann, I wish the best for you and Leo :)
Paula, I never told the truth @ the doctors either, but I had no problem doing so last month when I went. It's an awesome feeling I hope everyone is having a good week! I weighed in last Saturday and lost 1.2 pounds. woohoo! It's starting to slow down a little and I need to think of more ways to lose at least 2 pounds a week. Any ideas? :) I'm also having trouble getting my water in everyday. Its tough bc I'm in class a majority of the day and I don't want to have to get up in the middle of a lecture 5 times to go to the bathroom lol. I do drink a lot of water when I workout but not nearly enough to cover the whole day http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-pi...5/150/185/.png |
Good evening, chicks! Hope everyone had a good day!
Maryann-I'm sorry about Leo's not getting his chemo today. You must be a great support to him. I agree with the other chicks, you are a strong woman. Tech-thanks for the pep talk. I'm still considering the pedometer, and I think your methods will work nicely with that plan. Check on me in a few days and see if I've followed through. I need the accountability. Vickie-You must be exhausted! I wish you could get some rest. Don't let being tired be an excuse for going off program. Sandra-hop back on this wagon before it gets away from you. We're all pullin' for ya. Paula-hope dd has a great time tomorrow at orientation. A word of advice, on the first day of kindergarten after you leave her at the door, DON'T LOOK BACK!!! Sammi-I admire you for being able to stay op and attend college. You must be very determined! Sleep tight chickies! |
Thanks, Sloan. I'm hanging in there.
|
I don't know what to say about my eating. I have made some bad decisions. I don't have any excuses.
Thank you all for your support. |
Save The Frouf
HI chickies - happy September!
Well yes I had a very long weekend - as I took last thurs & friday off - 5 whole days to do a lotta damage! Don't know what got into me - but I did a lot of unnecessary eating (hamburgers - big juicy one with sweet potato fries, chinese food out w/dh, popcorn at the movies, etc) - and let's just say it isn't pretty - I am so bummed out - looks like the scale is up 5 lbs!!!!:o Is that even possible! The worst thing is I can't seem to get back on track! I don't seem to care what I eat anymore and I am so afraid I won't be able to save myself. Have not been to the gym in a week either which surely isn't helping (my wrist seems to be hurting - wore a wrist brace thing the other day which seems to be helping). I can't give up - but I am feeling hopeless. Last week I was so motivated and now I can't seem to get back into it - any ideas? Hoping to find inspiration and hope from all of you here! Thanks! frouf |
Froufy-don't give up! If you are a "pray-er", then pray. I will be praying for you. I know you have core experience, so you don't need ideas about how to stay op, but I heard a motivational speaker give someone this technique. Visualize your most happy/successful time in your weight loss. Start your day with this vision and remember it throughout the day. Also, plan each morning to be successful. The speaker said to "expect success". Positive self talk is very powerful.
