Hi Ladies:)

Just came home from WW and I lost :carrot:1 lb :carrot:during a holiday weekend. I can't believe just changing my snacking habits made a difference.

I'm hungry so I'll be back later after I have my dinner

Hugs :)

beach bum 09-04-2008 02:58 PM

I'm Back again,Can't believe how hungry I was,not having any breakfast on W-I day.

Nothing new,Gave Leo beef liver & spinach to cook,to take care of his anemia. Don't like the stuff so I made him cook it himself. At least I bought it for him.

VICKIE-Thanks:thanks: for nice complement.I'm going to stay low carbing[1 grain carb meal per day]on the Core and use only 15 WPAs again and see what happens next week.

SANDRA-Thanks I hope that he will be able to resume his treatment next week. I'm not  really strong but being that Leo is ill again I have to try to stay strong::workout: for both of us.

PAULA-Thanks:thanks: for the good wishes & prayers,Hope that his anemia will get better with time. The only thing I know from my experience this week is to stay away from going over board on the point system.

SAMMI-Like I told the ladies above I found that keep away from the WPA's & eating grain carb 1 meal a day, helped me lose this week.

SLOAN-I'm not a strong woman at all at least I don't think so,I can fold like a cheap camera, but I think under the circumstances I have to be strong for the both of us.

FROUFY-NEVER GIVE UP,IF I CAN YOU DEFINITELY CAN DO THIS The only advice I can give it what I did is to watch the carbs especially the grain ones. Once you've mastered that you really don't feel hungry. I learned that from the low carbing chicks board. I'm now using raw veggies with relish as a snack while watching tv.My favorite is baby zucchini with relish dip.

Hugs :)

What does WPA stand for?

ontarget 09-04-2008 08:52 PM

WPA=weekly allowance points.

Frouf, I hear ya, friend. I'm at the same place with you.

Tejas 09-04-2008 09:51 PM

Talk to you tomorrow; it's been really busy at work!

Sandra and Frouf, a few days, weeks not doing right is NOT the end of the road. I've not been so good for the last two days either, but tomorrow is a new day and some time off Core doesn't mean you don't get back on track.

Just work the program.

Rhonda

sloanie 09-04-2008 11:21 PM

Hey chicks! Hope your day was good. Did y'all drink your water? I got some in, just not enough. Oh well, I'm gonna try harder tomorrow.

Sandra and Froufy-Just look at the last few days as a "core vacation". Sometimes that jump starts your weight loss! Maybe your time away from program will give you a boost! Get back to it, and the pounds will come off.

Rhonda-hope you have a calmer day tomorrow.

Maryann- :carrot: on your loss. Way to go!!

Has anyone had any problems from the hurricanes/tropical storms? In middle Tennessee, it has been a little cloudy, but we've not had much rain. I hope everyone is safe and sound.

I had something funny happen to me last night. DS and I were watching the Republican Convention, and they showed Sarah Palin's parents. My DS commented on her mom saying "she sure looks stylish", that's how I picture you when you are older, stylish with sassy hair". It actually made me feel good, and I thought it was funny because he is very masculine and never comments on ladies' clothing. You never know what your kids are gonna come out with, even when they are older.

Happy dreams chicks! TTFN

sloanie 09-05-2008 08:23 AM

Mornin' chickies!

Drink, drink, drink that water!!!!

Vickie 09-05-2008 09:19 AM

Good Morning Chicks!

I'm off to the ENT this morning since I'm not getting better. I had a very non-Core meal last night at dinner but I plan to be on program today. I'll try to check back in later. I have dinner out with friends tonight but it is a Core friendly steak house. I just have to remember to only eat to satisfaction and skip the dessert!

beach bum 09-05-2008 09:31 AM

Good Morning Ladies:)

We're going to "Batten down the Hatches" as Hanna is come up this way and our patio is loaded with stuff that needs to be put back indoors.Expecting a No'easter up here with strong winds.

Couldn't believe me and a few other people lost at yesterday W-I. Our leader told us about the new program[starting next week] that WW has set up for us. Its some thing where for every pound the group loses WW will donate some money toward the hungry of the World. She said that she'll go into more detail next week, and if we bring one person to join WW we'll receive a WW tote bag.

Now my friend wants to go see the The Women instead of the Sisterhood of Traveling Pants. It does start in our theater until the Next Fri[12th]Its suppose to be funnier.I didn't see any reviews on it so I really don't know.

RHONDA-Sending you some :dust: to get on track again.

SLOAN-That some compliment from your son. Don't think mine would ever notice. Thanks :thanks:for the congrats:congrat: going to try the same method[low carb and using only 15 points] this week also, and see if I can lose again.

Hugs :)

blessedwithsarah 09-05-2008 10:48 AM

Good morning ladies! Well, put DD on the bus this morning. She was just too excited about school. We did find out yesterday that a boy down the street who was in her preschool class is also in the full day program and on her bus. DH felt better about things -- a bit. He is too cute - he is a nervous wreck about her taking the bus. After going to the school yesterday, I really feel OK about it all. The school is only k-2. Then tomorrow is the start of gymnastics for her as well.

Foodwise, I've been in control all week!! I'm thrilled. I updated my tracker on WW on line - I'm up 2 pds from my last posting a month ago. I'm OK with that as I'm in control.

Frouf, just pick a day and recommitt. Its tough to do, but its gotten easier each day. Think about your goal for the cruise to help you get through TODAY. Don't think about tomorrow, just concentrate on today and the next meal. HUGS!

Sandra -- ditto!! Just focus on today and don't look at yesterday. You can do it!!!

Maryann, I think you are going to get the brunt of Hanna on the Cape. But we should think about putting some things away tonight. Congrats on the loss!

Well, got to get back to work. BBL

Tejas 09-05-2008 10:50 AM

Sassy hair! You gotta love that!

Paula, thanks for the soup idea. I just had this cauliflower around that I had to do something with. I'll try the squash too.

Sammi: to lose one pound a week you have to reduce your calories by 500 a day. You can do that by not eating them and/or exercising them off. One pound is equivalent to 3500 calories. You can just put "lose one pound a week" into your search engine (I use Google) and see what you get. Just look at your diet and see what you can get rid of.

My downfall over the last two days was 1) eating out at one of Toronto's finest restaurants and 2) eating pizza with the students yesterday.

But, I didn't gain this week and that is good enough right now. Next week, I'm aiming to lose two pounds. My Richard Simmons' DVDs came so I've got that silly guy right in my living room. WHO could resist??

Anybody here ever built a house? That's what DH wants to do when we leave here. I never have; he's built two. Scarey thought for me!!

Have a great Core Day. Love yourself!!!

Rhonda

Cher-that is too funny! We can always count on our kids to tell the truth, even if it hurts.

Maryann-stay safe in the storm! Keep us posted on how you are doing. We will all be praying for the storm to weaken.

Vickie-let us know what the doc says about your smelling smoke. I've never asked my doc about it. Have a great time at dinner.

Rhonda-hope you and Richard have a great time. Congrats on the maintain.

Paula-way to go staying op! You've done great for having had a stressful week. Let us know how dd likes school. I'm sure she will have lots to tell you.

This afternoon I am going to an emergency choir practice (a group of teachers that get together and drink after school on occasion). I will not be drinking because I have expired tags on my car-yes, I forgot to renew them, so now I have to wait until Monday to get it done. It's really a bummer because I love "singing" with my friends. I'll just have to enjoy the company and indulge next time. Hope you chickies have a great afternoon, and if one of you is "singing", "sing" one for me!

TechAlum 09-05-2008 02:05 PM

TGIF,

I don't know why I think that since I'm not working....Made some poor choices yesterday (PMS has hit and I feel like Sloan did last week with the skunk thing), and man do I feel ichy today. I know better than to eat all that fat at one time. And the day before wi too :o, I was still down .4 but not as good as I hoped. Now I just need to get back on track for this week and not let that evil TOM interfere.

Cher - Welcome :D

Paula - DH's sometimes worry about the strangest things, he's probably worried this is the first step to his baby growing up. :cheer3: Yea on being back on track after your vacation.

BB - :yay: on losing that pound you deserve it. Too funny about the liver and spinach, I like liver (once in a while) but usually eat it out because I hate the feel of it raw. I remember when WW required liver once a week, my mom was going and what she ate we ate....I used to bury it and the canned green beans in mashed potato topped with a piece of bacon to mask the flavor  I am so glad that times have changed.

Sloanie - How's that water coming?????

Sandra, Rhonda, Vickie, and Frouf - Come on ladies, we can do this. You know we can.

Vickie - what did the doctor say, are you feeling any better?

Well, I've gotta get moving. I'm trying to clean and organize my sewing room. I've been quilting for almost 15 years and have never thrown out a magazine/pattern or book. So I'm going thru them now. Hopefully when I'm done I'll be able to find stuff :^:

Have a great weekend if I don't come back.

PAULA-We got the junk of the patio and we have enough food in the frig and pantry so we'll be ok.Just hope the electricity doesn't go off. I don't think so, as we have all our house line underground.Tanks:thanks for the congrats:carrot:,hope I can keep it going down.

RHONDA-Congrats :congrat: on maintaining send you [[[[[good vibes]]]] for a 2-lb loss for next week.

I can relate to that but from my DGC. Grandma can't fit between us like she used to do because our car seats are to big.Ha Ha Welcome:welcome2: to the thread.

SLOAN-We'll be careful and will keep you up too date. The weather centers are having conflicting stories about the winds some say 45 MPH others are saying 70 MPH wind gust. We 'll see whose right.

TECH-Thanks:thanks: for the congrat. I remember having to eat liver when I was a girl also. UGHH!! My father used to cook it and we all hav=d to eat it if we like it or not. I also remember WW doing the same having it 1 a week.

Have a nice evening

Well, dd is an official kindergartener!! She had a great day, DH had her call me at work when she got home. Her answer to all my questions was "Awesome!". She was asleep when I got home at 5:30 - she dropped at 4:30. Overall she had a great day!

Maryann, I'm planning on grocery shopping tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I'll just get what I'm out of -- Milk and fruit then do all my shopping on Tuesday. I have yet to actually watch a new broadcast so I'm not sure how bad it should be. Lets hope its not bad.

Tech, congrats on the loss. Those losses seem to me to be more of a success. When you think you should see a gain, but a loss comes across.

Sloan, I like the emergency chior practice! Too Funny :)

Well, off to get dd to bed. OH, I did find my curry squash soup recipe -- I had posted it here!

Have a good night.

blessedwithsarah 09-05-2008 07:27 PM

Maryann, just watched Ken Barlow on wbztv.com. Looks like your going to get the brunt of the wind, but we should get more rain Saturday night. Stay close to home!!!!

TechAlum 09-05-2008 07:55 PM

I just wanted to mention how much I hate living in a "battleground state". It's really going to be a long two months at this rate

Hi Ladies:)

Leo and I are going to stay home today,we did all our shopping on Thursday and Fri so theres no need to go out today.

The only thing we are planning to do is to take the front A/C out of the window.Just in case the winds blow the rains in that direction, don't want a flood in my living room.

PAULA-You take care also.Thank goodness most of the tourist are gone from this area.Just in case we have to leave for the main land the bridges would be over crowded. We remember when Hurricane Bob hit the Cape in the 1990's.

TECH-It will be over shortly just grin and bare it.

Will let you know whats going on with Hurricane Hanna as long as our electricity holds out.

Hugs :)

cher37 09-06-2008 10:24 AM

Wow! Thanks for the welcome ladies!

I just had an 'aha' moment reading your posts...now I know why we ate liver so much when I was a kid - my mom was on TOPS all the time (I guess they were copying WW). She would cook it (& everything else on that electric frying pan) - till it was as hard as shoe leather (the dog didn't even want it!) & serve it up with brussell sprouts! ughh! To this day I refuse to eat all of the above LOL!

I pray for you ladies in Hannah's path. I don't know what I would do in your place. Take care, stay safe, & have a good weekend.

Happy Saturday chickies! After thinking I remained at the same weight from last week, I weighed in this morning and lost 2.6 for the week! I am down a total of 32 pounds. I'm about halfway to my goal weight and couldn't be more excited. I hope the rest of you are having good luck as well :)

http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-pi...5/150/183/.png

Vickie 09-06-2008 12:26 PM

Good Morning Chicks! It's a beautiful day here in Chicagoland. I still feel crummy but am not using it as an excuse to eat badly. I'm proud of that.

I've a CT scan of the sinuses scheduled for next Tuesday morning and maybe a brain scan after that. Sheesh. Doctor saw no sign of infection. I refuse to research anymore on the internet because I don't want any ideas to scare me more. I did find where sensory disturbances could be a menopause symptom. Believe it or not it's included in a list of about 40 more uncommon symptoms of menopause in a book I have. Interesting. But, first the scan. I probably won't be posting much until I push through this issue. But know that I'm going to keep rooting all of you on and I'll be reading. I'm also going to follow Maryann's lead and continue to go weigh in and follow the program. No need to be fat AND sick!

Sammi....you're doing fabulous. Keep up the great work. Is your picture current? I can't see where you'd lose another 32 pounds. Good luck.

ontarget 09-06-2008 01:05 PM

I'm also wishing those of you in Hannah's path the best of safety.

Cheryl, I remember those liver days, too. I would cook mine till it was hard then cut it up into pill size and just swallow it.

We've had some emotional days lately. Not major just stuff with a business deal. The most major is our saying our good-byes to folks up here. We doubt we'll ever come back. Family is moving later this year--maybe to Germany. We aren't sure where yet because it's military related. Anyway, we've had some bittersweet days lately being with family and friends. We've been inviting a lot of folks to come visit us in Texas. Who knows? Some may come. We hope so.

Rhonda, we've decided to keep the condo and use it for traveling and for guest quarters. Ya'll come!

Today we're meeting our daughter and grands for lunch then going to watch the 13 year old do a Girl Scout presentation on bears. After which we're taking the girls to the movies to see "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

We are leaving for home soon.

Vickie 09-06-2008 01:19 PM

Safe trip, Sandra.

Tejas 09-06-2008 03:30 PM

:welcome: Cheryl.

Sandra, we'll be home for a visit in early October. I'll send you details privately. You must be really having some mixed emotions about what is happening in Montana, with family moving. I take it this means the Montana grans are going to be further away.

Sammi, you're doing great. Hang in there. It's not easy to go to school and change your eating. But, you're making good changes and you'll never regret it.

Vickie, I do hope that these health problems are minor in the scheme of things.

I watched the Richard Simmons DVD last night which came with the exercise ones. He is interviewing people who have lost and kept off lots of weight: 90 pounds, 172 pounds, and even over 300 pounds! So Richard's advice is:

think positive
be forgiving
have faith
shed the past
practice patience
count your blessings

Not bad advice for a way to live, regardless of your weight.

I've done OK today. We're having fish for dinner. DH wants his fried, so I'll do it for him. I'll poach mine, which I even prefer. Tomorrow I'm making what I know as "swiss steak."

Good luck to the Hanna folks. I just talked to my niece in Rockville Md. She says it's raining and blowing, but not too badly. I hope you're all so lucky.

Rhonda

sammi861 09-06-2008 04:03 PM

Vickie- This picture is actually from before I joined WW but the majority of my weight is carried in my abdomen, hips and thighs so I think another 30 pounds will be just what I need to get rid of that :)

http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-pi...5/150/183/.png

Tejas 09-06-2008 05:33 PM

I just finished the first DVD of Sweatin' to the Oldies. 30 minutes and my heart rate got up to 102, which is enough at this point for someone my age. It was fun.

sloanie 09-06-2008 05:33 PM

Hey chicks, happy Saturday!

Vickie-did you read that I smell smoke when I am about to have a sinus problem? I don't think you need to worry. I'll bet you are just special, like me!!

Rhonda-how do you poach your fish? I'm not a fan of fish, so I'm always looking for different ways to prepare it. Also, you inspired me, and I ordered a Richard Simmons dvd yesterday. It is the 30 minute one, do you have that?

Sandra-have a great time with the grands. Sounds like a trip to Germany may be in your future!

Cheryl-you couldn't pay me to eat liver!!

Sammi-I'm very proud of you! My dh is in college and needs to lost about 80 pounds. She is counting calories and going to the gym, but she is not consistent enough, so she stays the same.

Maryann and Paula-stay dry and let us know how you are doing.

I weighed this morning, and it looks like I've lost 1.5 pounds. I have not been going to ww meetings because I don't enjoy them, and I hate to take my time and pay for something that I'm not getting anything out of. You guys are my group. I'd much rather talk to you all than go to a meeting. I think I'm going to keep a weight chart and record my weight every Saturday morning. I'm really going to try and stop weighing daily, too. I'll let you know how it goes. Hope you chicks have a good evening. BBL if I can get the computer away from ds. TTFN

Vickie 09-06-2008 06:33 PM

Boy oh boy! You are all SO special and wonderful. Thanks for the good words.

Rhonda, thanks for your good wishes and thanks for the Richard Simmons words of wisdom. They are good words to live by. I need to let go of the past in a BIG way.

Sammi, well you sure look gorgeous on top!

Sloan, you are such a gem. I do remember that you said you smell smoke too. It's just that this isn't going away. That and the fact that the ENT said he didn't see any infection at the opening of my sinus cavities. He doesn't think he's going to find any infection. Whenever they talk like that, I begin to feel like they think I'm crazy and am making stuff up. Don't get me wrong. This Doc is outstanding and I think he saved my Jim's life by finding and operating on his tongue cancer so quickly. Jim says I'm being overly sensitive. I guess I'm just frustrated.

My thoughts are with all of you in Hanna's way. I need to call my family in Jersey.

Vickie 09-06-2008 06:35 PM

BTW, you all....I LOVE liver. My Mom made liver so tender you could cut it with your fork. Yummy. Bacon....onions....mashed potatoes and corn. I'm drooling!

... & me too!

About 5 yrs ago, I would start to smell smoke, my nose would get congested & my eyes would water. My doctor and I started to track whenever I smelt smoke, had a CT scan & concluded that I had hormone induced epilepsy that occurred whenever certain criteria were met simutaneously (over-tired, stressed & pre-menstrual hormones). Thankfully, it's not a serious condition - I'm comforted now knowing what I need to do whenever I smell smoke (relax, drink some ice water, write my thoughts down/to-do list to relieve anxiety) & my hubby is supportive so that helps alot.

Anyways, long story short, you're not alone & I hope everything will be ok.

/chery

Hi Everyone
I need to get back on here. I didnt realize how long it has been since I had been on. And I sure have missed all of you.
I am still struggling really badly.
I see there are some newbies on here. WELCOME!!
And I see I need to do alot of catching up with everyone.
Not much has been going on here.
Hubby is doing ok. Weaning him off one of his meds. We just couldnt afford it anymore. The Dr wasnt too happy with us. But if you cant afford it you cant afford it.
Son has taken us camping a couple of times. That was really nice. Just to get away. But those days are over now until next year.
Well I am going to get off here.
Just wanted to say "HI".
And that I have thought of you.
coco

Vickie 09-06-2008 06:54 PM

Chery, that sounds exactly like my situation! I've been really stressed, I'm going through menopause, and I started to smell smoke right around when my TOM might have been due. I've been having menopause induced insomnia. I'll be sure to ask the Doc about this. Epilepsy sounds scary. I'm not going to look anything up. I'm going to ask the Doc instead. That might explain why it doesn't smell in the morning.....because I went to sleep and relaxed! Jim has also been giving me an anxiety pill before bed. Sounds like you might have a diagnosis.

COCO!!!!!! Hello long lost Chick! We have been missing you. Some of us are struggling too. Just stay here wit us and push through it. Sorry about Hubby. Is there no way that Walmart or Sam's club might give you a good deal? We really need better health care in this country.

ontarget 09-06-2008 09:11 PM

Rhonda, they may be moving to Germany. We aren't sure yet. They won't know where they're going till around Christmas. I imagine you're going through the same emotional rollercoaster what with leaving family and friends in Toronto. I'm here if you need to talk. I'll be watching for your e's abougt your Oct. trip.

Sloan, congratulations on losing 1.5 lbs. That's impressive.

Hi, Coco. It's good to have you back. I hope dh does well without his meds. Listen to Vickie. Try Walmart. I hear some of their meds are just $4 per prescription.

Tejas 09-06-2008 09:43 PM

Coco, you're back! Great. I was afraid we'd lost you! I'm sorry to hear about your husband and the meds. And, yes, the U.S. does need a health plan. We've been warned not to talk politics on the board, but I'll tell you the simple fact that Canada and most of Europe can manage health care plans...there's NO excuse for the U.S. to be as it is. Meds aren't covered in all plans, but people don't go bankrupt from health care costs. Check it out.

Sloanie, I broiled the fish in the end. But, when I do poach it I just simmer it in water, white wine and lemon. The wine is essential ;) And, the Richard Simmons I bought was the 6 DVD package...it's the 20th anniversary re-issue of the Sweatin' with the Oldies series. I got it off his website. I also have a video called "Dance Your Pants Off." My only complaint is that he changes moves quickly so, even though I love to dance and am even pretty good at it, I can feel clumsy every now and then. But, I catch up with him and at least I'm moving instead of sitting.

Have a good night all,
Rhonda

cher37 09-06-2008 10:12 PM

Well Vickie,

It doesn't hurt to look up info on the web - the way I look at it is the more information you have when you see your doctor - the more questions you can ask.

Take care of yourself,
/cheryl

p.s. How could you like liver???? ugh LOL

beach bum 09-07-2008 08:40 AM

Hi Ladies:)

Don't have that much time to post as I have to get ready for church. Just came on board to tell you we're all fine on the Cape. The sun is shinning and we hardly got any rain or wind from Hanna last night from the way they were forecasting it.

See you guys later

Hugs :)

The Scale Moved the right direction!!

:carrot: Hooray Hooray!!! :carrot:

Almost 3lbs down!! I am happy since I did have quite a few strays off program this week---but not as bad as last week. It feels so good to see the scale move and really gives you more motivation! This week I will try to do even better!!

Wow this board has been busy this week! I spent all morning reading everyone's posts to catch up. During the week I barely have time to do anything "extra" like coming here. My job and daughters take up all the minutes of the day. This week at work was exceptionally challenging and busy as well.
The ICU has been filled with sicker than usual patients (I know that probably sounds impossible, since we get the sickest of the sick) and the nurses have needed a lot of my help and encouragement. I am so proud of my team sometimes!

Sandra---please don't give up! I can see all the stress you have been having with the family issues and that does not help when it comes to staying on program. Try to get in some activity---it helps with the stress---and I need to take my own advice sometimes!

MaryAnn--I hope Leo gets his count up so he can get his chemo next time.
The fact that you can lose weight during this roller coaster of illness amazes me. Really. You are an example and an inspiration to us all.

Vickie--Once you get the CT and see it is normal, you will feel better. It won't make the smell go away but at least you will know it's nothing serious.
If your Dr. is thinking of scanning your brain as well, they really should do it all at once--see if you can make that happen because I think it will cost you less money and less time---one trip instead of two!
I myself had some funky heart stuff going on, so I had a full work up. Everything was normal (except I still have the arrythimia, there is just no explanation as to why). So even though I still have the problem, I know it is nothing serious and that my heart is okay. Just that peace of mind is worth millions, and you may even be able to sleep better once the tests are over.

I wish I could write to all, but I really need to get a move on. Going to go for a walk this morning before it gets too hot outside. Yesterday I had lots of errands to run (got DD a Trombone, she has begun band this year) and my girls had dance class. Didn't get in any exercise so I have to get some today!

Yesterday I made a whole chicken on the grill---the kind with the beer can stand. It was DELICIOUS! I highly reccommend it! I cooked the sweet potatoes on the grill too and had a salad with it. Yummy and all core!

Healthcare

Forgot to put in my 2 cents about the healthcare issue.

As someone on the front lines, I can tell you that healthcare in this country is in serious trouble. I'm not trying to get into a political discussion either, but healthcare reform should be at the top of everyone's list of important issues.

How heartbreaking that a citizen of this country cannot take the medicine they need because of the cost. How stressful for that patient and their family as well to have to make that decision---do we buy food or do we buy medicine? It happens every day to so many people. I could go on forever but that's not what this board is about so I will stop. But I want you to know it makes me furious!!!

Thanks, Rachel. I know you're right. It's just that I'm such a super smeller AND there is no olfactory fatigue with this. Once it comes on it's all I can smell. Ugh.

Well, we're going to a White Sox game today so at least that should distract me for a while. I have NO idea what I'm going to eat though. I think they have a turkey wrap and a fruit cup. We are also going out to dinner with friends afterwards to a pizza place. I'm doing salad with broiled chicken. Tomorrow is weigh in for me and I've been eating too much Core food with no exercise. Not a very admirable start!
