Default Oatmeal

So, what do you all put in your oatmeal to make it pleasing to your tastebuds? Before I started core I used butter and sugar.....that won't work now. Please share.

Default Yummmm Oatmeal

I love oatmeal and it keeps me satisfied for a while....

I usually add some splenda and cinnamon. I also add raisins or some granola. On a thread last week someone recommended I add egg whites for additional protein...

I also use the old fashioned oats. They puff up more! So it seems like I am eating a full bowl when it's really only a 1/2 cup of dry.

Enjoy!

My favorite way to eat any hot cereal is with a bit of skim milk, some Splenda, and a sliced banana. It is sweet and creamy, and adds a fruit serving too.

Lynn, just so you know, raisins and granola are not Core so you'd have to count points for them. I love raisins so I buy the teeny tiny boxes and occasionally use them in my oatmeal and charge myself 1/2 point. I also sometimes add one tablespoon of raw walnut pieces for some protein and charge 1 point.

My most favorite is to cut up a whole banana into the oatmeal while it is cooking. I always use the old fashioned oats and I make it with skim milk instead of water. Then I add splenda or equal and pretend that it is a banana muffin.

During summer I add about a quarter cup of fresh blueberries after the oatmeal is cooked. Otherwise you'll have purple mush.

Another favorite is peaches. I mash the peaches and then add it to the oatmeal and milk to cook. It's like the peaches and cream instant packages that I used to love and are not Core.

I've heard some people add a packet of SF hot chocolate for a chocolate oatmeal. That doesn't do it for me but it might for you.

Happy Breakfast!

My favorite is blueberries, cinnamon and splenda. I keep frozen berries on hand and add them into the oatmeal at the end then microwave for a bit to melt them. YUMMY!

Paula, I never tried the frozen ones. I wondered if they'd be tough. I'll have to give them a try.

I cook my 1/2 cup of oatmeal in a cup of soy milk for an incredibly creamy breakfast. When it's done cooking I add some blueberries to it. Yum!

I only put banana (mashed) after it is cooked (no artificial sweetners), and it is so yummy! Denise

I like to add 1/2 cup of pumpkin, Splenda and a little pumpkin pie spice. Very filling.

Susan, this sounds great! I'm always looking for new ways to get veggie (is pumpkin a veggie?) and get my oatmeal down. I'll have to beat the dog off since she loves canned pumpkin.

I love plain yogurt and cinnamon with mine.

I'll have to try the can pumpkin tomorrow morning.

I use maple flavored extract and splenda. tastes just like the pre-packaged maple varieties, only it's core!
Another variety I posted in the breakfast recipes area:
use cinnamon, vanilla extract, molly mcbutter, splenda. Tastes like a buttery cinnamon bun

Enjoy your oatmeal!

I love cooking mine in milk, too. I also use 1 AP and sprinkle a tbsp of trail mix on top or real maple syrup.

I'm not really an oatmeal eater, but couldn't you add extract to it, such as raspberry extract to make it taste like raspberry oatmeal? I believe that extracts are core. Vanilla extract is, so I imagine the rest of them would be.
