Happy Thursday everyone. Hope all is well with you today. Things here are good. Work is busy, have a bit of free time (no meetings) today which will let me catch up a bit. (and log in!)

Angela -- eek! -14...........

I'm hungry now, I think I'll go get my cukes and tomato that I brought in my lunch. Its only11:10! BBL

Hi All:

I realized that I could work from home today so I'm doing that.

Frouf, use caution with weights attached to your wrists, if that is what you are doing. I've read that it is easy to hurt your neck nerves. Since I have degenerative disk disease in my neck I don't put weights on my wrists. But, I do use free weights: 7 pounds for bicep curls and 5 pounds for everything else. I have irritated my neck from time to time so I'm very slow with the weights, which I understand is the right way to lift them anyway.

Enjoy those cukes Paula!

Definitely slow (and painful :D) with the weights - we are using free weights so nothing attached to the wrist (and one of the leaders is a physiotherapist so while the other leader does the exercises she walks around watching us carefully and correcting us when required! They are very serious about not injuring ourselves esp as we increase our weights). I am only using 3 lbs now for my arms but probably ready for at least 5 lbs for the bicep curls.

Starving - just had my cherries followed by my sf/ff butterscotch pudding.

Decided not to go home after work and just head out to exercise from here - have my gym bag in the car! (I only really get 20-30 mins at home anyways to change and eat!). Will pick some 'dinner' up on the way I guess (subway?) and eat by 5:30!

The fun part is there is a "national race weekend' here in ottawa end of May and we are all being encouraged to participate in the 5KM walk as a group for PR and just for fun too! We have a 'team' page on the race website and we are also supposed to get donations (free entry to races with $150 raised) and it all goes to the Ottawa Hospital so it's for a good cause! Guess I should start practicing on my treadmill?

Brand New To The Group...

Hi Everyone!
Looking forward to getting to know all of you on this life-long journey! :)
I've been on WW before (this is my 3rd and final time). My attitude is very different this time, I feel I've matured and finally understood that in order for the program to work, I also have to WORK! :) I decided to try out the core program this time. It's so liberating not to have to log each and every thing that passes your lips.
So, I am wondering if there's anyone out there, on core, with some great stories, recipes or tips. I could really use the motivation!
Thanks!
Noussa :)

Hi Everyone
I couldnt get on here last night. Something with the internet here.
So will have to go and read the post. Seems to be several of them.
So forgive me if I dont write to each of you.
Made some soup yesterday. Just used cabbage, green beans, diced tomato's and some carrots. And used chicken broth. Not bad. And helping with the eating between meals.
I hope everyone is doing ok.
I am thinking of each of you.
Better go catch up on all you ladies.
Have a great evening.

Hi there. Nothing much to report. I am op and going strong. I didn't do quite as much :ebike: today but plan to tomorrow. We're expecting ice in the AM so :ebike: and arrows will prob be about it for the day.

:welcome: Noussa. I am looking forward to getting to know you.

Frouf, I am impressed you're thinking of competing in that race.

Coco, your soup sounds good. We just finished taco soup. I put ww pasta in it this time.

Rhonda, I'm glad you could work at home today.

Paula, I want to thank you again for posting the chocolate cake recipe. I made it. Yummy!!

ontarget 01-24-2008 08:11 PM

Angela, I hope you join me trekking soon. I wore a step-o-meter for the first time today. Of course I lost it. Oh, well. Life goes on.

Tejas 01-24-2008 09:12 PM

:welcome2: Noussa. A number of us find that counting points even on Core is a good idea, but try Core without that and see how it goes for you. You'll find lots of recipes on the site here.

Coco, soup sounds good. I ate the last of the one I made the other day and am going to make another. Maybe I'll try yours, I think I have cabbage.

I went to :belly: tonight! It was great. Oh, Frouf, I remember you telling us how careful the leaders were...that's good. :wl:

Night all,
Rhonda

p.s. I'm baking the "chocolate cake" now..it's in the oven!

Thank You For The Warm Welcome, Ladies!

OnTarget, Tejas, Cocoa and All... Thank you for making me feel so welcome!
I now live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and there are obviously no WW meetings here, I could really use all the support I can get.
I have 2 kids, ages 2 and 1 and I am a stay at home mom. I am orginally from Canada and was living in the US prior to moving here. A lot of moving around- and baby-making! :dizzy:the past 2 years, so now it's time to settle down and focus on myself.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you on this journey of ours.

Good Morning Chicks! Glad to see you are all doing so well.

Welcome again, Noussa! We really love to have new folks here.

I'm snuggled inside today. We are in the deep freeze here in Chicagoland. The wind, of course, makes things worse here during the Winter. I'm roasting a chicken tonight for dinner with Core mashed potatoes and corn. Can you tell that I'm in serious need of some comfort food? I need to plan my menu for the weekend too. It's hard to get Jim to commit to what he'll eat more than a couple of hours in advance.

I'll be back later to try to catch up. HUGE congratulations to all of you who are exercising. You are positively inspirational!

Tejas 01-25-2008 10:17 AM

Morning All:

Noussa, living in Saudi Arabia must be quite the experience. You'll be in quite a different time zone from the rest of us, but hopefully that won't deter you from participating and taking care of yourself as you want to do.

SO, the "chocolate cake" was NOT a hit here. I might try again, making it sweeter. I used quick cooking oats, but I might grind them even more and see what that does to the texture. I made DH a "real" cake this morning because he was NOT pleased with the cake last night ;) I hope that I will be able to avoid eating much of it; I think I can.

I've got to run and go to the office. It's only 17 months and 1 week until retirement! Maybe I should create a tracker for that! Boy, am I ready.

Stay warm, Vickie, and the rest of you who are freezing. It's 19F here.

Rhonda

Good morining everyone, Welcome Noussa! It will be interesting having someone from Saudi Arabia join our group -- especially when we are all complaining about the cold!

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the chocolate cake. Rhonda, i've only made it with regular oatmeal. Maybe if you make it with oat bran (as its written) and add more splenda....Its worth playing around with. I've been snacking on it all week. DH doesn't touch it due to the "oatmeally" look. Which is fine with me, if he did try it, it would be gone.

I'm happy to say its day 4 back on the Core wagon. I have been perfect! And I have not used any WPA! The best part, the scale is moving... can't wait for wi on Tuesday. BUT, I first need to get through the weekend without blowing it. At least I have all my points to work with, but I'd like to not use any. We'll see.

Rhonda, I'd create the tracker. WOW, retirement so close. I've got at least 13 years. That will be when Sarah graduates high school. too far off....

Vickie 01-25-2008 10:33 AM

Ohhhhh, I saw a carrot oatmeal cake on Dottie's. I was going to try it but it sounds like it's not perfected yet. I'd LOVE a Core carrot/pineapple cake or muffin.

ontarget 01-25-2008 11:04 AM

Carrot cake? Vickie, you have my full attention. I know you'll be able to perfect it.

I sprinkled 1/2 cup chopped walnuts on top of the batter before baking. That added 10 pts to the whole recipe.

The chocolate cake wasn't really sweet enough for us either so I nuked some fruit and spread it on top. Next time I'm going to add more Splenda. Also, we ate some of it with WW 1 pt chocolate fudge bar on top. The cake seems better when it's warm, so we nuked it before eating each time.

Noussa, I am very interested in your progress here. Please keep us posted. Like Rhonda said your time zone is different so it may be a few hours between replies to your posts, but please post away.
