Default new to the Core Plan

Hi ladies,
I have been doing WW since February, but have been on the Points Plan. However the past few weeks I've come to be in a bit of a slump, and want to do something to give myself a bit of a kickstart, so I thought maybe trying the Core Plan for a week would be a good idea......

I don't REALLY understand all the ins and outs of the Core Plan, so I might be posting in here a lot LOL....

My first question is - the WW Cereals aren't counted as a core food are they? Because of the dried fruit they contain? So I should take 1.5 points off my weekly points allowance?

thanks,
Emma

Welcome, Emma! Is that Gaby? She is adorable!

We'll try to answer all your questions we can.

Welcome to the world of Core. It really works if you stick to it....and it's not painful to stay with it as far as I'm concerned. If a cereal isn't Core then you are supposed to count points for the whole serving. I haven't tried the WW cereals so I'm not sure of the points count. If they have dried fruit then that is certainly one reason that it wouldn't be Core. I find most cold cereals aren't Core because of the sugar they contain. Even my beloved Cheerios have sugar and therefore are banned from the Core list! I'm basically a shredded wheat and bran girl. I find it tastes great with fruit and equal.

I failed metrics. So how much have you lost in pounds and how much do you have to go in pounds?

thanks for that Vickie, I think I vaguely remember our leader saying last night that the WW cereal isn't core, but I wasn't paying attention (was sulking about my gain lol)

yes, the photo is of my one & only I'm going to change it though because she's grown a lot since then

I have lost 28.6lb & have about 80lb to go

I want to restart CORE. I did it a few years ago and was doing great with Fat Smash but I need something my whole family enjoys. I was reading at the WW boards that no baked goods were core. I was afraid to post there as reading the comments on this type of question. Is this true? No baked oatmeal? Kathy

there's a big debate on that. the problem with baked core foods is they can be triggers. i was baking some core goodies but lost control. now i'm trying not to do any baking but am using my 35 wpa's to satisfy my baked foods needs. (am i making sense?)

I lost 50 lbs. on Core and that was the old Plan. I thought that was really difficult to stick with all the way... the new Plan is even worse. Well, I eventually gained back all my 50 lbs. and got quite upset June 12th. I decided to go to an older exchange Plan and did for 4 weeks... lost total of 15.5 lbs. An online friend also regained her 40 lbs. and asked me if I would go back on Core. Well, I did last Tuesday and you know what? Honestly, it's not for me long term. My Mom who is 79 y/o who lives with me loves to eat dinner out. It has provem to be challenging and very difficult since she likes to go to all kinds of places. Not a good fit at all for me. If I was home and cooked more I would be better than this. I would go on Core periodically but not for good. It's a great way to get away from excess measuring but watch the portion sizes. My online friend gained week one. She decided Flex was for her. I'm sticking it out but will be off of this by Wed. when I weigh in again since I have to work Tuesday and need accuracy from then on.

Core is definitely hard.....maybe impossible if you aren't willing to cook most of your dinners. It's quite low/healthy fat and unprocessed which leaves most restaurant meals out.

It fits my lifestyle nicely, for the moment. If I was going to be in restaurants a lot or on vacation, I would consider switching to Flex for the week.

Now core works pretty good for me. I have to watch my sodium intake and with Core it's pretty easy for me. Those foods that are higher in sodium (usually those processed ones) are limited by the 35 points so it's taken care of. Core may not be for everyone and that's fine. I've done both programs and love them both. I've actually lost a total of 80 lbs using both programs. The beauty of WW is that you can do flex one week and switch to core on another week you're never locked in to one or the other.

I do tend to stay away from restaurants, but I love core. I don't think it's difficult at all. I have been doing a lot more cooking though, but I've found some absolutely wonderful recipes. I still watch my portions and if I'm not hungry, I don't eat. If I'm starved in between meals I eat fruit, 94% fat free popcorn, or carrot sticks with fat free ranch dressing, among other things. I've made a few of the desserts and also sf ff chocolate pudding. But I only eat when I'm hungry and I stop when I'm satisfied. I never get full. Drinking the water helps too.
I've had onion rings, made with oats, baked french fries, oven fried chicken, lean hamburgers, and chicken stir fry. I found a great recipe for a sauce on a stir fry. I use 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce, 1/4 cup mirin(rice wine), and 2 packets of splenda. It's awesome. Just put on a stir fry and it's really good. And it's all core.

Hi Emma! I'm Emily's mommy off the Oct 06 PR boards! I'm just starting Core and I'm lost! There seems to be a lot to learn. It's nice to see a familiar face though!
