Morning all. Happy Monday – not. Sorry this is so long - I'm avoiding work!
Shad – Didn’t want to get into the work ethics of the Gen X & Y’s, but you about summed it up! I believe employers here now have to make mandatory minimum employee contributions to the 401k plans if the employee doesn’t voluntarily do so. Hope your first day at the job went well! OMG, the lame Cxxxxxxxx in July marketing ploys! Isn’t the back to school marketing in full swing by now??
Mel – The nerve of whoever it was to volunteer you to stay on weekend duty for what – if the AC went out?? Errant seniors?? Unbelievable! Hope it continues to be quiet and not “alarming” by you. Sorry your sinuses are bothering you!!
So sad about Norway, though I confess I didn’t know about it ‘til I phoned my mother yesterday morning. She sounded very disappointed I’m not keeping up w/ the news. Because it’s so positive and uplifting, right?
Annie – Hugs to you, since you’re having a hard time of it.
All that Mel mentioned that’s happened lately in your life – you’ve got to cope somehow. Glad the cry and talk helped a bit. Good for you deciding to cut to (almost) nil at CVS – now don’t let them get you back in there on a regular basis!!! Your sanity is worth more than that and I just know you can make your finances work on one job’s paycheck!!!
Ceejay -
Lucky government, utilities, and for-profit businesses – just raise the prices and pass the cost along to us because you mismanaged your operations and/or allowed corruption and therefore didn’t put away money for future capital improvements. I wish I could cut back on my bills and tax payments or demand more pay when I have to replace my car or do a home repair or spent too much on things I didn’t need. That was in reference to your garbage hauling fees going up, BTW.
It’s a good idea to save an old computer as a backup for maybe storing files like photos. Enjoy the new one with that big screen!
We have an old sluggish desktop that will eventually become a back up when we finally get around to replacing it. Lately we’ve rarely used it – we now check our e-mail via our iPhones, and bf has a laptop. Hope the sister retreat is a go!
Michelle – Glad your DMIL was surprised and enjoyed her party!! Great planning to keep the surprise a surprise!
She’ll have great memories of this to look back on. Glad you enjoyed the latest (and last??) Harry Potter movie. Congrats on the 1.5 lb loss!!!
Go girl!!
Happy – Glad the finances will work out in spite of your work situation – just need to get that house sold!! I’m sure the real estate lady will have a positive assessment – you’re really going all out to present your house in the best light! Re my friend's visit - bf, my friend and I went to our town's downtown block party and met bf’s friend there for a little bit, but we didn’t stay long. Then it was dinner (Leona's) and back to the house. Pretty ho-hum, but nice.
Hey Ellen!! Hope you’re not melting or being flooded out in your neck of the woods! I think we got 7+ inches of rain overnight Fri/Sat. We saw a lot of debris by the side of the road Saturday and Sunday, so I know a lot of people in our area had flooding in their homes, including our neighbors (2nd time this month – last time their sump pump went out). Thank goodness we didn’t.

Friday night was a dog walk and then I don’t recall what until I fell asleep watching tv and finally dragged myself to bed around 11. Then we all woke up to the most intense thunder storms I’ve ever heard – and that was with the windows closed and AC running! Doggy was shaking like a leaf and none of us could sleep, so we got up and watched some tv until it finally passed. Poor doggy! We got back to bed around 4-ish. We would have given doggy one of his sedative pills to calm him, but we had the vet appt in the morning and needed to medicate him for that, so we didn’t want to dope him up twice.
The appointment went fine. The dope hit doggy harder than it usually does when we give it to him in the afternoons because of all the stress and the fact that he’d been sleeping and didn’t have adrenaline going yet. Funny both the vet and the assistant commented on how good he was, LOL. In addition to all the shots and annual exam stuff, nail trim and gland expression, we also asked about Coal’s hips – he’s slower getting up nowadays. Vet recommended glucosamine. We also asked about his various and sundry lumps and bumps. One is just fat, but one was sampled and is being sent out for testing. Praying it’s not cancerous.
Went back to bed after the vet and slept late – I didn’t go to an exercise class - then did some errands til my friend arrived. Then it was talking, the downtown block party, dinner, and back home for a lot more talking.
She stayed over, and yesterday we talked some more til she left, then I puttered around the house. Did a little shopping. Finally bought some new sneakers, but then I remembered an online shoe store recommended to me by a friend (onlineshoes dot com) and I saw the same ones for significantly less $$ – and no shipping cost and no sales tax either. Turns out the ones I chose are the same unattractive ones I had before (I call them my Frankenstein shoes, lol), but they’re the ones that feel the best. Sigh. So I’m gonna return them and buy them online instead. Damned if I’m going to pay more than I need to on those, LOL. Because it’s my !@#$% bunion causing fitting issues, bf is advising me to get it removed…
Finally watched the movie 127 Hours last night. Wow. Scary stuff – you know I’ll be sticking with the easy hiking trails from now on!
Okay, getting this posted. This is enough babble for a week’s worth of posts, sorry ‘bout that!
