  • Okay, I see the three things we refused to give up. How about the things we ARE willing to give up? I'll start.

    1. Anything made with high fructose corn syrup
    2. Wheat
    3. Milk - Only do soy now.
  • 1. Sugar
    2. Snacks
    3. Seconds
  • 1. CANDY
    2. CAKE
    3. PIE

    TACKLENURSE
  • 1. Fast Food
    2. Heavily processed "convenience" foods (except for the occasional can of soup - but I have to be able to pronounce every single ingredient)
    3. Artificial sweeteners.
  • 1) Anything fried
    2) HFCS and refined white sugar
    3) Belt busting portions
  • 1. Fast Food
    2. Pop
    3. Red Meat
  • Hm. This is a toughie for me because to me "giving up" indicates that you're sacrifice something you want ... and as I mentioned in the other thread I haven't really *given up* anything I've wanted - I just have to work harder to fit some of them into my calorie plan.

OTOH, there are things I've happily kicked to the curb because they're bad for me and I don't miss them at all:

1 - HFCS - I never really thought about how bad it was for me until I started eating healthy. It's hard sometimes to find things w/out, but I work really hard to make sure I eat as little of it as is humanly possible.

2 - Processed foods - I don't think I'll ever entirely give up processed foods because the convenience factor of some thing is just too high, but as with the above - I eat as little processed food as I possibly can.

3 - Large Portions - as a general concept I have entirely 100% given up ordering or buying a "large" of anything. When we go out to eat I order a small or even a kids size if I can. I'll ask for an appetizer size or a 1/2 an entree at restaurants. If I'm really really craving something, I'll buy the smallest size snack bag or candy bar I can, vs. how I used to buy a King Sized Snickers, for example.

  • 1. fast food
    2. refined white sugar
    3. large portions
  • 1. HFCS
    2. Trans Fats
    3. Artificial sweeteners

What's more important is what is not on this list. I did not give up chocolate, wine, or anything else that I truly enjoy.
  • 1. Eating whatever I want all the time, without a second thought.
    2. Sitting on my a$$ and finding excuses not to exercise.
    3. Wishing that I was slimmer, instead of doing something about it.
  • 1. I was willing to give up baking, which I love, but I love being an athlete a lot more.

    2. Alcohol -- except for special occasions

    3. Eating at restaurants more than once every couple of weeks

These are all things some people never had to give up to lose weight; I have trouble controlling myself in an environment that features any one of these things.
  • 1. Animal products
    2. Eating out at Indian restaurants on a regular basis
    3. Cable TV (as other things took priority, I started watching less and less tv until it didn't make sense to pay nearly $100/month for cable)
  • 1) White flour
    2) Sugar
    3) Full fat dairy
  • 1. eating without thinking/planning
    2. convenience/premade food
    3. foods with no real nutritional benefits (even if they have no/low calories like diet drinks, pickles, sf jello, skinny cow etc)
  • At the risk of sounding like so many others:
    1. Highly processed foods (especially carbs)
    2. Fast food - fried foods
    3. "Free food" - anything left in the break room at work (donuts, muffins, and the like)
