Good morning. My week is going to be a busy one. I have a doctor's appointment with the endo this morning. We will discuss my blood work, among other things.... Justin's grandfather died Saturday night. We are scrambling to find a way to afford to send him to the funeral.

Father's Day was nice...everyone was over. Unfortunately, I had a taste of the gooey chocolate cake Ruth made. It was an ice cream cake. My glucose levels are suffering for it. I should go for a walk this morning, but my experience on Saturday when my back was cramping has made me a bit leary of it. I am wasting time online instead! I think I will do some weights before I have to hop in the shower and get ready for my appointment.

It IS MMM...and I am up one pound. I hope the doctor has some answers...

MMM...I didn't go check the minute I got up and I've had to cups of coffee already...but I'll give it a shot. Okay...up a couple to 158ish. But I usually weigh myself right after I get up and pee. I'll try again tomorrow.

Father's Day was better than Mother's day. We got Derek a game for the playstation and some new clothes that he desperately needed, I made him heart-shaped scrambled eggs (I cooked them in a heart-shaped cookie cutter...it was messy, but I came away with about half the eggs in a heart shape ) and we mostly hung out all day at home. My dad was in Rochester still and didn't get home till 4pm, so I'll go over there today to give him his present. So, for lunch, I made Derek black bean salsa with chips and for dinner, two hamburgers with baked beans. Which may also explain my 2-3lb gain.

So, our party was a success. Derek ended up being a good sport about it and sat by the pool and talked to my two aunts. I actually felt really good after leaving....maybe for the wrong reasons, but....I was talking to family and friends and they all sort of had the same feelings of being at my sister's house as me. I didn't go up to people and say, "Doesn't this house make you feel like crap about your own house?"...but just about everyone I talked to felt her house is excessive. I mean, she has this pool that has changing colored lights in it like Niagara Falls! One minute its pink, the next its green, etc...its like she had it installed by Pep Boys. Now, I just want to say that it's not that I want people to dislike my sister or think she's a jerk or anything, but going to my sister's house instills such inferiorities in me...I guess what I'm saying is that it appears to make everyone feel this way. So, I guess it made me feel more normal and like my sister is the odd ball out. The other, almost more important thing I noticed is this...MY kids were mingling around and talking to the guests and were friendly...my sister's and brother's kids were all outside the pool area, in a little clump, all sitting amongst themselves being stuck up...in my opinion. I mean, I was taking my kids around and introducing them to everyone...so, my point is that my sister should maybe consider taking some of the energy she puts into making her house impressive and put it towards making her kids friendlier. In my opinion. Anyhow...I left not feeling like an outsider and feeling like I'm actually quite normal. Oh...and the party was great seeing people I hadn't seen since I was at least a teenager and babysat for them.

I have to post this recipe for Black Bean Salsa I made at the party:

1 can of Black Beans, drained
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped red onion
the juice of one whole lime
a few shakes of tobasco
chopped cilantro to taste...I used the leaves of about five plants.

Of course, I used corn tortilla chips, but if you want to keep it legal, use triscuits for dipping. This was soooo good. And rather impressive, if I don't say so myself.

Gator, Monet and Kaye: I will definitely make some time to talk to my sister about 'issues'. I, honestly, think that it's just that she's stuck up. I'm also really bad with confrontations, but I think for my family's sake, something needs to be said and shaken out. I don't want things to get so bad that we go years without talking. Honestly, I think we're all overly sensitive in my family and my mom especially is so worried about insulting my sister by having an opinion. It goes way back to when we were little and when my sister would have problems and would want to talk to my mom and my mom would get all mad like, "How dare you bring problems into our house..." and my sister would go to my gramma's house to talk about her woes...and then I think she was always standoffish to me because, as the baby of the family, I guess I got more attention than she did and now it's evolved into my sister being above it all and my mom not wanting to insult my sister by saying, "Hey, you are really rude to your little sister, like, ALL the time." and me being told not to rock the cart with my sister and it's all a jumbled up mess. So, anyway, I think an informal, family meeting of sorts is in order.

Anyhow..I have to go put some fertilizer on my tomatoes and flowers before it rains. Will be back later with replies...

Default Good Morning

Howdy ya'll. Monet thanks for the welcome back. It feels good to at least try and get back into some sort of good eating habit. I know it's going to be uphill after everything I've been indulging in. My official Monday weigh in is 168.8 I should just say 169 but I want my .2 ounces...LOL

Tech...I'm so glad you ended up having a good time.

I look forward to catching up with everyone.

God bless,
Crystle

Hey, guys. I had another bad-eating weekend. I'm swollen today because of it. I boiled a couple green tea bags this AM and stuck them in the freezer and then applied them to my eyes for 10 minutes to reduce the swelling. And of course, I then drank the green tea. So nothing went to waste, lol. I'm up for this week's challenges. Except for the new recipe, I'm pressed for time with cooking considering I don't get home until 7 or later. My mini goal for myself is to get to 165 #'s and to exercise this week..I haven't exercised since the Thursday before last. I got a workout in this morning so I'm off to a good start. MONET- I used my co-worker's insulin machine to check my sugar last month after eating a chocolate candy bar and I think it was 105, so normal. My theory is that my eating isn't good enough. Also, another goal of mine is to increase my fruit and veggie intake. I'm off to a good start on that as well. Just need to keep it up. Alright, here's today's menu:

BF- had some grapes and strawberries with sf yogurt
Snack- had an orange
Lunch- made a big salad using baby spinach, baby carrots, green onions, tomato, cukes, low sodium tuna, some cheese, and lite LC Italian dressing
Snack- maybe a spoon of Smucker's PB

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the SB group. I am off for the Summer so I have time to do this. I thought this would be good support. My goal is to change the way I eat and just go day by day. No more refined sugar "candy" and no junk food "chips." I am so addicted to candy and have eaten too much of it all my life.
Now, I see my daughter getting my bad habits. I am not going to be weighing myself, because my focus is on healthy eating and improving my health. I used to do WW, but it did not work for me with this sugar addiction.

Wish me strength and support,
~W

I'm still home sick and miserable, trying to breath. But I'm 37 weeks today!!! Now there's no worry of baby coming too early and having to go to the hospital (instead of a homebirth). I'm feeling huge. ANd he's sooo active!! Trying to eat healthy, but the onlything I've kept down since friday without puking was ramen noodles :-S Not good, I know.

At least I may lose at least on of the FIVE POUNDS I GAINED in the last 2 weeks!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!! That's a big jump from 13 lbs to 18 lbs. First time I've wanted to panic about my weight while pregnant. Wierd....

Ok, off to get the screaming toddler..

First off...

Kewe! Welcome to Sugarbusters! I hope we can give you all the support and encouragment you need to reach your goals! Just jump right in, ask any questions you have, and chat with us. This group has been a lifeline for me through many ups and downs. I hope it becomes so for you as well.

I just got in from the doctor's appointment. He is very pleased with how well I am doing, and very sympathetic about the lack of 'progress' in the weight department. He told me that most of his patients gain at least five pounds for each 1% drop in A1C. Mine dropped five points since April, so theoretically, I should have gained 25 pounds. I had gained 3. He told me to consider that a 20 pound loss. Well, not THAT encouraging, but at least I do not feel as big a failure! He wants me to try a very new drug that is by injection. They taught me how to do the injections, and gave me the prescription. I am waiting now for the hot line folks to call me back with the information on whether it is covered by my insurance company. (Thunderwoman- its Byetta...how has Curtis done on it?)

So, I came home encouraged.

TECH: I am tickled that things went so well at the party. I would have to agree that raising your kids to be friendly, social with adults and all around nice human beings is MUCH more important than a fancy house with a multicolored pool. Your sister sounds very insecure. Personally, I like kids who will talk to me. If they act snotty, I have little use for them. My kids used to tell their friends, "make sure you talk to my mom!" if they wanted me to welcome them into our house. The ones who did talk to me...well, they are STILL welcome. Many come hang out now, 10 years later.

HEART: Did you wait two hours after eating that chocolate to check? What a resourceful person you are! I had a snicker at the frozen tea bags on your eyes while you were drinking the tea!

COUNTRY: You may have that 2 oz. Do you still walk a lot? I have thought of you and those long walks you used to go on a while back when I was out doing my three mile route.

I am going to go do some research on this prescription...later!

Monet- No, it was about 30 minutes after eating it. Should I have waited longer? I think if anything my levels can be low at times. If I go longer than 4 hours eating something, I get nauseous, dizzy, and get a headache. Dunno..?

Talitha- Don't beat yourself up. Your doing great with the gain. I think I only gained around 20 with Boogie. It was AFTER that I had the problem. With a sick baby that stayed in the hospital so much, I guess I turned to food for comfort and out of boredom(nothing much to do in hospitals). So my advice is to relax right now, you're doing good..

Hi everyone and happy Monday. Just checked on my tomatoes. They're doing good and I can tell they loved the little rain we had this week end. I'm growing basil to and its doing wonderful. Right now my fingers smell of it and its making me hungry. LOL. Of course everything makes me hungry. I'm still not doing well but am trying to get myself ready for eating right. My DH is having some health problems and the doctor wants him to start eating right too. I see my heart doctor next month and he's not going to be pleased with me. Welcome Kewe to the best place around. I'm sure you'll do good cause Sugar Busters is the greatest. Now I must run DH is home for lunch.

Hi everyone, I'll post more later. Things are crazy around here. Just wanted to say to Tech to not think of it as "confronting" anyone. You are merely speaking politely and calmly about a slight issue that has come up that has hurt your heart, and instead of letting it fester and build up, you are wanting to talk about it to settle things between you and the others involved. Confrontation sounds so angry and, well, confrontational.

I'll post more later.

Hi all,

Its a great day here. I picked 6 more cucumbers, 3 squash, and 3 tomatoes. That makes me a total of 25 cucumbers in 4 days...lol. I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Monet-Yes Curtis is taking the byetta shots. Is the doc starting you out on 5 or 10. Curtis started out on 5 for a month and then when to 10 but got off of it when he lost his job and now hes started out on 10 and haveing a very hard time...its making him sick to his stomach...the doc should have started him out again on the 5. Congrats on the good report.

kewe-Welcome this is a great support group....I love each and everyone of them...We all have our up and downs but we keep on trying again.

Gatorgal-Howdy!!!

Country-Welcome back...I've been back on since Feb and feel so much better. Its great to see you again!

Toni-Hello, I'm also watching the rain do wonders for my garden. I should be picking peas in the next few weeks also.

Heart-I love the green tea but have never put them on my eyelids for swelling will have to try that.

Talitha-I feel for you hun. Those last few weeks are so miserable but so worth the wait when the time comes. Hang in there its almost there.

Tech-Congrats on the great party. You did a great job with everything and with teaching your children to intermingle. The others lost out on some great companions.

To everyone else have a wonderful SB day!!!!!
