However, I'm still having trouble with wheezing and coughing after I stop, which lasts for almost an hour and is kind of scary. I don't have that trouble when I run inside so I wonder if it has to do with breathing in colder (it was probably 50 degrees and drizzling today) air through my mouth. I tried to breathe through my nose, thinking that would warm the air, but I have a chronically stuffed up nose so I end up breathing through my mouth.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

You can try those "breathe right" snoring strips. I have an acquaintance with very narrow nasal/sinus passages, and she uses them when she jogs to help her breathe through the nose.

Helen, congratulations on your new 10k pr. It sounds like a tough course! With an easier course, you're bound to get a new pr the next time you race.

eadavenp, good job on getting out there. You'll be ready for your 5k, just keep working toward the goal.

Sheila, my only thought is that you're maybe running faster/working harder than you're used to on the treadmill. But that doesn't really explain the wheezing and coughing afterwards.

I ran an easy 10k this sunny, breezy morning. I came home and immediately went back out with my 7 year old for 2.7k walk/jog. He found the wind quite challenging.
