Amy, this antique show is perfectly enormous & I have been going to it for more than 15 years. I usually make some great finds there. I look forward to it every year as much as Christmas. (More, maybe.) And I do see people pushing strollers on the field. (This is not easy in an alfalfa field.) And people with children. But usually people with dogs. All kinds of dogs. Sometimes pushed in strollers, like children.
Aug. 24: 60 minutes stationery bike, a Star Trac. The first one creaked badly, so I switched off after just over 15 minutes when a nearby, non-creaking bike was vacated.
45 minutes weights
I think this gym's financial state is not good, based on the creaking equipment & the things that haven't been repaired since I last went there, exactly a month ago, on my last visit Upstate. I would not want to buy a long-term membership there. Shame. Its strengths are its pool, a squadron of treadmills & all its weight cages & benches & barbell sets. Its weaknesses are the aging ellipticals, bikes & rowing machines. And all that space. So much space. I live downstate, where commercial space is at a premium, and I'm in awe of the sheer size & ceiling heights, which remind me of an enormous loft.

Aug. 26: 60 minutes arc trainer, intervals, resistance at 8, with a dead iPod, so I was stuck with the gym's piped-in Sirius radio dance station.
60 minutes Pilates class. Which I was excited to go to, partly because (this is embarrassingly superficial) I got a pedicure two days ago, and my feet look good, for once just as good as all the other women who get regular pedicures. I've come to class before wearing my own amateurish, streaky painting, or chipped, or half-grown-out. This time I presented 10 immaculate toes in class, which did wonders for my self-esteem. Even if the "teaser" is still a b&^%$ch of a move to try to complete.
Aug. 28: 60 minutes on arc trainer, resistance at 8, plain old intervals
60 minutes Pilates class
Class was small & the cardio machines were relatively unpopulated for Saturday morning. This week & the coming week are when the world around me goes on vacation. My village doesn't empty out, like in Europe, but nearly so. Everyone's off to Vermont & New Hampshire, the Berkshires, the Catskills, Block Island, Newport, Montauk, Fire Island, Cape Cod & other foreign parts.
Where is everyone? The other maintainers can't possibly be immobile. I think it's just a popular week for vacations.
Aug. 29: 45 minute spin class
40 minutes weights
I like my routine with weights -- enough so that when I go away this coming week, I hope my hosts in Wellfleet will understand if I take off to a nearby gym with dumbbells & barbells. I've been reading online reviews of Willy's Gym in Eastham. Sounds like a day pass is $20, which seems steep, but Cape Codders have to make their money off the summer folk while they can. Winters there aren't so lucrative.
I am back on the second to last day of august to report on activities during absence.
first and most regretted-- no 10k race. DH came upstate and was looking forward to a family hike. I had other arrangements for the first day of the weekend. So, we postponed until the day of the race. I realized the conflict and told DH. He gave me one of those looks.... (you are here for 4 weeks, I have only weekends....my life is so hard, this would make me so happy....yeah, that look.) OK, so I said I would do my own 10k early in the am and then we would go for a hike. Well, I didn't ...and we both realized I should have just run the darn race b/c I was a biatch. The hike did turn out ok tho. My four year old scrambled up rock face with me holding my hands next to each side of his little butt
then I delayed posting here b/c I was embarrassed and told myself as soon as I did the 10k I would come back...well, no 10k done, fell hard off the bandwagon and I am forcibly holding myself to the backboard of the maintenance wagon.
I have done runs, not as many as I would like and I am looking forward to bragging about exercise success in September. (chicks, thx for hearing my confession)
