    2x15 lat pull-down, first set 50#, second 60#
2x15 lunge, first set 2x5#, second 2x10#, alternating with
    2x8 swiss ball crunch
    5 min stretching
  • Aug. 12: 60 minutes elliptical, resistance at 8, half backwards

My energy came back, and yes, guess what I discovered last night. (Now I appear to be on a 24-day cycle, rather than a 27-day cycle, as in the past.) What a relief. And I'm glad I'm getting better at understanding my body & what it it needs or is trying to tell me, after being estranged from it, ignoring it & hating it for so long.

60 minutes Pilates class in the evening. This is with the new, charismatic teacher, whose monologues tonight covered the colon & its importance to our immune system, the meteor shower & I forget what else. I'd never tried a side plank before, but I did tonight & I was able to do them. Had more trouble with reaching beneath my torso with the opposite hand while in side plank. I need to try this in my own routine.
  • Yay! After two rain delays, I finally got out for my run!

    August 12: 3.2 miles, 34 minutes.

Note to self: never, ever, ever run with a belly full of pasta again.

Saef, how goes the pilates war? Who would think -- politics at the gym!?!?! Though, thinking of my gym, I guess it's not all that surprising...
  • 12 August: 45 mins of yoga and stretching.
  • August 12: about 30 mins total walking back and forth from parking lot to customer lab

    August 13: AM dog walk
  • Amy, the Pilates War shows no sign of abating. The new teacher's class was once again remarkably full for a Thursday night. I'll see how the "old" teacher's class is tomorrow. Saturday is usually busier, but there's been a marked dropoff the past two weekends & it can't completely be attributed to August vacations. (Anyway, not as many people seem to be going away for their vacations. The gym's manager says this year the place has stayed busy all summer -- either the unusual heat is driving some of the outdoor exercisers indoors more regularly, or people are increasing their "staycations" due to the poor state of the economy. She didn't mention the third alternative, which is that I think the gym is getter better-known & acquiring new members who use it more frequently.)

Aug. 13: 15 minutes rowing on the Concept II
    45 minutes weights
45 minutes arc trainer, on hill intervals, set at 8
  • august 12- 2 miles, no stopping
    august 13- 4.25 no stopping

    feeling in the groove again
  • 13 August: 45 mins yoga and stretching; 40 mins brisk walking to and from tube (aka underground or metro).

I need to do better than this but it's not possible at this point.
  • HI guys, I feel I need to join in here, just to gett myself into a routine of daily exercise again. The plan is to ease into healthier habits again.
Today august 14: biked 30 mins total to the next village to pick up some meds, then jumped in the pool for 30 mins.
  • August 14:

    10 mile run, 1:44

    I think that's' 5.8 mph or 10:20/mile.

My goal is to run a half marathon in less than 2:10 in four weeks. I think I can do it given that my training runs are hilly and the race is fairly flat but a net downhill.
  • Aug. 14: 45 minute spin class
    60 minutes Pilates class

I don't get it. It's a gorgeous day today, 81 degrees, low humidity, and everyone was inside. The gym was packed. It's full of new members. If it's like this now, what will it be like in the fall, when everyone wants to start exercise programs?

The bad news is, the Saturday spin class is getting moved up & now will conflict with Pilates. I have to choose. I'll do Pilates, as I can get a cardio workout in other ways.

The good news is, the gym is expanding its hours to 10 PM on weeknights. That may be worth looking into, if the gym continues to be full & it's hard to get on the cardio machines that I want.
  • Queuing for machines is no good. I lose traction.

14 August: 45 mins str/yoga. Anything else I've done cannot be called moving, in all conscience. Just a bit of ambling along the Thames and walking down 7 floors in Tate Modern (art gallery in old power station).
  • Hi Birch, I take it you are being the tourist in London?

Exercise for today: grappled with pruning a large tree in the front yard for 2-3 hrs. This involved a lot of overhead cutting & sawing, so I count it as exercise.

    Rabbit
  • Correct, o rabbit. Today is a rest day. A proper rest day. I don't remember the last time I had one of these.

Tree wrestling is being considered as an Olympic sport, I believe. Overhead work is particularly advanced, I gather.
  • Aug. 15: 15 minutes rowing on Concept II
    45 minutes weights
    45 minutes spin class

Silver, I can't tell you how much I HATE waiting for machines.

And I am a hog when I'm on one, as I do 60 minutes of cardio, not 30 minutes.

If someone asks me directly, I will cut off at 30 or 45 or whatever is nearer to the time when they asked. I believe in being a good neighbor. But if the person wanders around glancing occasionally at the machine, or glares, I will NOT take the hint. Pining wistfully for something won't work with me. Rude stares will not work. I will ignore you. You have to ask. Out loud. Using words. Communicating with speech. Ask & ye shall receive, as quickly as I can -- well, I mean within reason, not if I've only been on the thing for 15 minutes -- but you've gotta speak up for what you want.

But anyway, I really hate cardio interruptus.

    And I really hate waiting.

I'll figure out something, when the time comes.
