Hi guys,

Still reading the book.

Jodi, If you can't find fresh bread without HFCS, look in the freezer section for Ezekiel Bread for Life. It doesn't have any sugars and is whole grain. I can find it at any of the Krogers around here.

I'm going to try the whole wheat pizza crust recipe later today from the book. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Hey all. I got an email from RealAge today and checked out YOU on a diet. I had seen about 15 minutes of the Oprah show. I new it had to be discussed on 3FC. I think I'm going to try it. I'm off tomorrow and will have to go shopping. Do any of you have kids? I'm wondering about the shift in feeding my family this way too. I hate to have to cook different meals.

Vmc53 - I would wait to start the diet after you've actually read the book - but for now, it might not hurt to start cutting out any foods that have high fructose corn syrup, and incorporating whole grains, fruits and veggies. That will get you pointed in the right direction until you can get an official start.

thank you ladies for the advice on bread, i'll have to look at a larger store for the Ezekiel sounds good though.

no hrbabe i didn't read YOU the owners manual, i did see the oprah episodes and the discovery health special on that book though. i really sort of trust these 2 doctors, alot of what they say seems to make sense to me. maybe i'll pick it up next time out at the book store.

wip- i have 3 kids i think it is doable most days. really we're just eating lean meats, veggies, whole grains etc. i did keep some of my kids favorites around the house no reason for them to diet all the time. we all eat the same thing for dinner everyday.

i just finished my 20 minute workout for today. i hope you are all doing well!

The book is interesting and a fast read. Due to financial, constraints, I shamefully read it in the bookstore, and it only took an hour and a half.

For everybody waiting for their books to arrive, go to the You on a Diet website Here.

If you sign up (free) you can get meal plans, shopping lists, etc. It is a good introduction to their plan.

Question

Questions already. For all you canuks out there, Canada am is running segments all week with Dr. Roizen. Go to their website and there is eventually a link to the video that aired this am.

My question...What on earth has less than 4 gms of sugar per serving? Even my fibre one cereal (with no bad stuff in the first several ingredients) has 12 gms. I looked at our 1% milk this am and it was 12 gms. Help! Is this some weird us vs. canadian conversion???

I bought the book yesterday. Sam's club had it for $14.00.

I never buy books! I either get the information from sites like this, read it from the library or sit at a book store and read it and take notes. But this time even though I had great resources available I actually bought the book!

I'm looking forward to applying the principles. I'm sort of doing fat smash right now, just day 2, it seems pretty similiar. I need to get away from eating so much meat and cheese-really cheese is my downfall.

Believe it or not - Kelloggs Special K - protein plus, only 2 grams of sugar, 9 net carbs 10 g, protein and 5 fiber, and it tastes pretty good !!

i've been eating bite size shredded wheat, the only ingredient is shredded wheat and it has less than 1 g of sugar per svng.

i didn't think the 4g of sugar per serving rule applied to natural sugars found in milk, fruits, etc. i could be wrong??

I just want to point out that Special K has high fructose corn syrup listed as the 6th ingredient, at least online (I don't have any in the house to check.)

Please double check your foods for HFCS just in case!

I'm enjoying my Cheerios, which have just 1 gram of sugar per serving and no HFCS.

However as someone mentioned earlier, even my 2% milk has 13 g of sugar per serving. I don't think one can ONLY eat things with less than 4g of sugar each or you'd be left with a bowl of cheerios soaked in water. Bleh!

I'm on day two of the Fat Smash Detox Phase 1 diet, but also in the middle of reading the "You On a Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management" book and also got the free exercise CD from Amazon.com. I also caught Dr.'s Roizen and Dr. Oz on Oprah. After completing Phase 1, I will follow the "You On A Diet" program. Love the book. Their approach is that, through knowledge, we can understand how our body's store fat and burn fat, and how to "crack the code" on lifelong waist management. They do this through humor, and diagrams of our digestive systems. They also enlighten us by busting myths or explaining something to us about diets that may seem 180 degrees from what we believed was true. This book is like an adult comic book. It's worth every penny and is motivating me on ..............

The sugar in milk is lactose, a naturally occurring sugar. Fiber One is sweetened with Splenda. I think the 4 gram rule is for HFCS, and other added sugar. I will have to read that part of the book again.

Dr. Roizen was on CTV this morning, and about the waist measurement he definitely said to measure around the belly button while sucking it in. I am guessing this is to measure the omentum fat.
