Hi everyone.
I stop by every so often to be encouraging, and I was very rudely reminded of something today that I thought I would share.
I have been running for years, on short runs I try to consistently run a 8 to 9 minute mile. I have been working for months to increase my speed for short races. But I want to remind you guys especially if you are just starting out, somedays your run is going to be bad, actually it can really suck. You can't have a really good running day everytime you go out. It doesn't mean you can't do it. You can, just a different day. My plan for today was to run 5 miles. No biggie, do it quite often. About the 2nd mile the run started going bad. So I decided to just run 5K and make the best of it. I hate to even admit this but I did run the 5k, it was not pretty, it was not pleasant and I averaged 18 minutes and 15 seconds per mile. I haven't done that bad since I was recovering from having a broken ankle (left) & a broken foot (right) at the same time. The 4 weeks after I had both of the casts removed I averaged that kind of time per mile.
You know that when you do that badly, for whatever reason (still don't know what happened this morning) you tend to want to give up, be depressed about it or mad at yourself. If you have a day that bad, think of it as a practice run so that your next one can be better & don't give up.
Any speed you run or walk/run is great, I know people run slower & faster than I do, so the speed doesn't really matter so much. My point is that some days you can't do your personal best, you might not even come close, but a bad day running or walking & running is still better than doing nothing.
Hope everyone has a good day. Everyone is doing great.
