Carol101 - WOW 7 # in 10 days!!! What kind of programme are you following? Maybe you can share your menus with the rest of us. What motivation to keep going. I haven't had a really great weight loss in a long time.

Good for you - keep it up. I did another 2 miles today and stayed within my range yesterday.

I've just added some weight lifting to my exercise regime. As an added bonus, when I was leaving the Y, I ran into a friend I haven't seen in almost 30 years--my best friend from high school. See, it pays to work out!

I did cut back on my aerobics to three morning classes a week. I have a chronic physical problem that made it too hard for me to do the evening classes. But they say that weight lifting helps the metabolism so hopefully I will still do okay.

Eating is going pretty well. We had lunch with relatives the other day and I ate the smallest shish kebab (mostly veggies), had about a tablespoon of some kind of jazzed up fruit salad (looked like it had cool whip in it), and lots of asparagus. Hard to count WW points, but I'm pretty sure I stayed within my range.

As far as my diet plan, I am just trying to stay within the 1200 calorie range. The last 10 days was when I just started the diet so I am sure it was mostly water weight. I am just as sure that I will not lose that much per week in the following weeks.

I need to step up some kind of exercise program. I am sure that will help a lot.

I have also heard tht weight training will help build muscle and that helps with the metabolism. I have a membership to the Y, but haven't started going yet.

My plan is to start next week!

This is my first day to post since last week. I'm healing from the oral surgery, and have graduated to semi-solids;,(sutures still in place). Still, I lost 3 pounds last week, (that was with no exercise, and no weight training either). Glad to read all the 50+ posts.
I still am planning to post daily, and get back on Protein Power asap I can.

Happy day for me. I went to Old Navy and bought size 18 (with no W attached!) jeans. They are a touch loose in the leg, but fit okay everywhere else. My daughter says we both have chicken legs. Couldn't button the XL shirt, though, darn it. I blame my kids for that! I can wear XL T-shirts so I'm not sure why I couldn't button the shirt, but hopefully someday.

Sheila: Congratulations on the size 18!!! Your on the right track. Keep up the good work. We must remember not to get discouraged when a size fits one day and then doesn't the next. It is NOT YOU!! Sizes vary by the manufacturer!! You just keep doing what your doing. I am proud of you!

I spent just spent the last 2 days at the hospital with my daughter and her two kids. The baby 8 mos old was admitted. He had diarrhea and was vomiting. He couldn't keep any food down at all. Got very lethargic. He was dehydrated so bad it scared us. He has rotavirus. Her daughter (5 yrs old) came down with it as well and didn't want to leave her mom so I stayed at the hospital with them all to help take care of them. I got about 1/2 hour sleep on Thursday night.

Baby Logan was released last night so we all got to come home. They all appear to be on the mend now. The virus just has to run its course. The trick is to keep them drinking fluids until the virus is gone.

I got a really good nights sleep last night. I even managed to lose 2 more lbs this last week! Wow.

Now I have a very dirty house to clean since I have been gone for 2 days so I better get to it.

Ending a pretty good week. got in a good walk every day, drank my water, didn't eat like a fiend. Feel fairly good about it all.

Well I came upon this group and it sounds great, the only problem is I am 48, will be 49 in Oct. But I am pushing 50. I have been through everything you gals have. Just started doing strength training with weights 3 times a week and the 2 mile walk away tapes 2 to 3 times a week. I love the tape and the band that comes with it. I am only down a pound, but I feel so much better, more energy. I also have arteritis, I have it in my upper back, my right hip, a couple fingers, 1 ankle. Oh well, sometimes one is worse than the other. Been on celebrex for a year now, and it is doing wonerful. The weather still makes a difference, or if I overdo myself. I have 3 grown children, I was a widow at 37, and met a great man who I have been married to for 5 years. No grandchildren yet. can't wait. Will check in later

Hey, one pound is excellent, bandit 2! And welcome, loon2, you youngster, you! Sounds like you're really getting into exercise. Glad it helps your arthritis, too.

I had a planned off program three-day weekend, but started right back up again on Tuesday when I got back into town. I won't weigh in this week, however. I really hate having the scale go up, and I know it will be up. Can't seem to force myself to weigh in even when I know it will go up.

This weekend I did learn that there is such a thing as too much ice cream. Maybe my tastes have changed or something, but I got a dish of ice cream and it was just too sweet and too much. I feel much better when I eat my Skinny Cow Fudge Bar, and I think it tastes better. How weird is that!

On the plus side, I made a contract with myself to stay OP for three weeks, and journal, drink water, and exercise daily, and I stuck with it! I am pretty proud of myself for doing that. I'm going to set up another contract for a longer time. I find it really helps to write something down and hold myself accountable.

Everyone is sounding quite positive about what can be done as an older individual losing weight and gaining health. It just goes to show that you are never too old to do a little self-improvement.

Actually I find for me it is just a question of finding the program that suits me and sticking to it. Persistence -- that is the name of the game.

And of course we should all keep smiling, too.

hello ladies, thanks for the welcome, had a busy day day at work today, so when I came home I really didn't wanna do my walking tape, but I said just get it over with. so I did, now I can sit and relax and put my sore feet up. Have a doctor appoinment tomorrow, the yearly thing. Don't ya just love it. I know a big part of our converstion will be about going through the change, I'm sure you ladies could tell me all about that. Been having a few different things happening. Anyway we have a very nice dy here today, should get outside for awhile before it gets dark, or I don't feel like doing anything. Talk to you all later.

Loon2, your post reminded me that I have no idea if I have gone through menopause or not yet. I had a partial hysterectomy so I still have my ovaries. I haven't had any noticeable symptoms of menopause, or at least symptoms I've heard that go along with menopause. I take medication to help me sleep at nght because of a medical condition so I don't know if I would notice a hot flash at night or sleep disturbance because I'm drugged.

In my family, my grandmother was the oldest to go through menopause and she was 47. My mother was 42 and my sister 39 so I don't know what's going on with me. Either I have gone through it and didn't know it (is that really possible?) or I'm an incredible late bloomer given my family's history.

Anyway, hope your doctor's appointment goes well. Glad you stuck with your commitment to do your tape--you should be proud of yourself!

Loon2 - I have made doing my walking tape part of my morning routine & find I stick with it so much better than trying to get it in at night. I am always too tired or busy or something keeps coming up to not do it. This way it is done before my workday begins.

As far as "the change" is concerned - I started to have some problems a few years ago & they said it was stress (since my sister was dying at the time) but I knew different & it ended up I had a huge fibroid. Anway I ended up having a hysterectomy and it was the best thing I ever did. I was taking hrt but after all the news about that, I now take herbal supplement & have had no side effects. I still have some mood swings but mostly from life crap. Some of my friends are struggling with peri-menopause,
fibroids, bloating etc & I am so glad that is behind me.

Another rainy day here in Minn. Well my oldest daughter is coming home today for the rest of the weekend. That will be nice, haven't seen her since Easter. Wanted to go out and plant the garden today, but not in this mud. To think three weeks ago we had ice on the lake.
bandit, what kind of herbal supplement do you take? I have been taking depo shots for the last 7 years. Not for birth control but I was having problems with my periods and a few other factors, so my gyn said lets try this, it has worked great, my doc says I can take this trough menopause because of the estrogen in it will help. He did stick me on a mild anti depressant for the anxiety and mood swings, just for a short time. All I needed was one more pill I have to take. Oh well. Had two warts froze off my right
hand, and wow does that burn. But it will get better. Well I see dd just driving in. Talk to ya later
