  • Tuesday, July 17:
-Splashing around, walking on teetering rocks in flip flops, pulling myself up a hill using ropes
  • Catching up, now that I'm Upstate with a home Internet connection again:

    Tuesday, July 17:
15 minutes Stairmaster step mill, aerobic intervals, resistance at eight
60 minutes chest and shoulders routine, with bench presses, which are harder to do in this gym because there are no free-weight racks over the benches
60 minutes endurance spin, with weight intervals

    Wednesday, July 18:
45 minutes spin, with weight intervals
    15 minutes Pilates routine afterward

That's four days of spin in a row, trying out the instructors at my old gym & figuring out what my spin routine will be. Three days? I used to do four.
  • Thursday, July 19:

60 minutes on the arc trainer, one-minute intervals, resistance at eight

Back in my Upstate gym, soaking my shirt with sweat even in an air-conditioned gym because of the sun pouring in through the huge plate-glass windows. Ah, summer.

  • Friday, July 20th:

15 Stairmaster climber, resistance at eight, aerobic intervals, warmup
60 minutes back & shoulders routine, feeling pretty good on the Gravitron
45 minutes back on the climber, upped the resistance to nine, and for my hubris, had to grab the rails for 10 minutes toward the end

There's a drugstore right near this gym. I stopped by for almond milk, sugarfree gum, peroxide. The clerk scanning my purchases said, "Oh, yeah. Come in here after your work out & make us all feel bad for being so lazy." So I guess I've become one of Those People.

July 20: started with a walk with the two dogs (and dd) to get fro yo. Once there, we realized Jozi (8 y/o Great Dane) was too hot and tired to walk back home. I ended up running back home (1.5 miles each way) to get the car and rescue the dogs! They have both been pooped out ever since we got home!

Then I went to my planned Bikram Yoga class-- it was extra hot and sweaty-- not sure if that was because I was already hot and sweaty!

  • Saturday, July 21:

Just over 4 mile run, which I did in 41 minutes on a gorgeous, clear and temperate morning, though the rainless days have become a drought and all the lawns that I ran past were burned. Also at one point on Hencle Road, I was skipping around fragments of a headlight and a car's front end on the side of the road, and saw a long dark skid mark. I wondered at this, as that's a straight way with a good view. Then I came upon a big dead doe, lying on its side, with its belly bloated from the heat. So that was the story there.

  • Sunday, July 22:

Succumbing to extremism, because of my anxiety over the endless process of moving, I've already:
    • Run the usual route -- oh, and it's not over four miles, in fact, it's just short of four miles, or so says MapMyRun, it's something like 3.84 miles -- only I did it backward, so the long grade uphill was downhill. This made a significant difference in my time. I also discovered other slight grades. And found that the closer that I run to the center of the road, the better I feel about running, because of the unevenness of running on the side, where the road starts to slope downhill for drainage.
    • Gone to the gym and done almost an hour for my shoulders, biceps and triceps routine.

And I'll be lifting and carrying stuff between the van and my apartment after the long drive ends today.

Maybe it's the endorphins, but exercise really seems to ground me when I am particularly anxious. Or I burn off adrenalin that would otherwise stay in my system poisoning me. Or maybe it's the relief of having a purely physical task to focus on. I don't know, but I do know on some occasions it has taken the place of nervous nibbling in my life.

July 22: about 75 minutes Tough Mudder Boot Camp Training which consisted of running up and down hills carrying a sandbag, lots of squats, lunges, etc. Dh went with me-- we both did well but are WIPED out! We (especially me) got entirely dirty and muddy as I had just put on sunscreen. I was planning on going to Bikram Yoga in the afternoon but I was still feeling lightheaded and I had such a hard time yesterday that I decided not to push my luck.
