Sarajane, my doctor's scales weigh me about 7 lbs more than my scale (which was checked against a doctor's scale itself and deemed to be accurate...) - my doctor does not weigh me (any more - I just know about her scale from when I was pregnant & she weighed me a few times, yuck!) cuz she knows I hate it and I am paranoid etc! She is so so nice. Just go by your home scale I say...unless it is really old or temperamental. Also one tends to weigh more later in the day...I have been known to weigh 5 lbs more in the evening than in the morning, on my home scale, and I KNOW I didn't gain 5 real lbs in one day!

Despite the goldfish. Yeah, I hear you, Lunula...I wouldn't buy them either, but youngest DD adores them and is such a frugal, healthy eater overall, and loves them so much. A small handful tides her over till mealtime after school. She loves fruit, veggies, rice and lentils, can make a cookie last for days...and a few goldfish too. I need to emulate her. I guess I just need to be tougher about them! I am (supposedly) the grownup around here! (Though I do feel childish and greedy when it comes to candy, crackers, cookies - etc)

And V. Day is nearly here...I bought some Ovation mint sticks to ration out (about 15 cals per stick and I love them) so that I will not eat any Hershey's kisses or little choccy things that will doubtless be around on Friday. Set those boundaries! (And then Easter is coming too. No more Ovations! These were leftover in a shop from Christmas I think!) Ugh!

Grrr I seem to be gaining instead of losing!

Maybe it's because I've started exercising more? I am now exercising 3 times per week instead of once + my daily walks to and from work.

Same thing happened to me, Mauvais. Muscle. It weighs more than fat. So I've been told.

Count me on the challenge! I could stand to lose 10 lbs by Easter, but I'd even settle for 5!

I'll weigh myself tomorrow and use that as my starting weight for the challenge.

I'm in too. Time to get serious.

I'd like to lose 5 pounds (minimum) by Easter.

Hello All!

I just read through this thread. I joined in 12 days ago and haven't posted since. I finished up the Valentine's Day challenge. Only me and one other woman posted our results. It's pretty dissappointing that everyone else sort of dropped out. I hope we can stick together on this challenge.

Dentrassi: you have a really modest goal of 5 pounds, but you'll be able to make it and maybe go beyond it.

What things keep you motivated? Vacations, summer, clothing that used to fit and is still hanging in the closet waiting for you? Those are my motivators. Plus I'm single and want to be sexy, and I'm almost 33 and I want to look young in my 30's not old.

Good Luck!!! Have Fun!!!

I have a tendency to sabotage myself when I set goals, so I am trying to "guarantee a success" to break that pattern. My mind set about weight loss has changed A LOT as I have gotten older (and gone on anti-depressants.)
The main reasons I want to lose weight right now are health related, but it sure would be nice to have more choices when I go clothes shopping!!

HI all- Is it just me or is the left over V-day candy sales too much to bear??? I told my wonderful hubby not to buy any and he did not - but how as a penny pinching mom do you resist 1/2 off boxed truffles??? Instead I opted for Sugar free low fat Healthy Choice Ice Cream. Not the same but better for my hips! When I lose weight I always feel like I look larger by the pound I lose. My husband a says I should not worry about it so much, but he weighs 195 lbs.He went to the seminar about the stomach stapling with me, and was very supportive, but he does not think it should be such a big deal. I still have not been able to stick with the daily food journals. I can make excuses all day but the fact is I just have not written anything. I need a vacation!!! We planned a trip to Disney World for the kids school break in October - so I can do this slowly and right , if I can get motivated.

Any motivation tips?????????

Have a great week!

Sara, the big thing about stomach stapling is that you feel full very quickly! So the physical surgery forces you to eat less. It makes you have good habits.

Have you tried WW? You can go to them and buy a start up kit which is about $20 and has a journal and also a points guide. It seems really good. It may help you think about how you eat. You don't neccessarily have to go to the meetings.

Good luck, please keep posting here. I really enjoy the support and ideas from everyone.

I am using my easter vacation as my motivation
- I want to lose 5 to 10 lbs. After that I want to get in shape for summer so that I will feel less selfconcious wearing a bathing suit in public and I want to buy a nice new bathing suit too

I go to my first WW meeting tomorrow during my daughters dance class. It is the only time of the week that I can fit it in (sad huh!) usually I go with the other mothers and have cheesesticks or potato skins or something. SO this will knock that out.

My brother and his wife both had the stomach stapling done. He has lost 300++ pounds and she gained all of hers back (her first real meal was a pureed hamburger...) I had decided that that was the final choice, but then I realized that I had not done WW. Besides I have wedding cakes scheduled almost every weekend so I would have to wait until I could schedule the surgery in. I told my husband if I could just quit my job, I could have time to go the the gym and aerobics with the dance moms. We have a gym and spa at work, but no time to go.

As for WW- I paid for the first 10 weeks in advance so I would make myself stick to the schedule. I will pick up the starter kit tomorrow.

Thanks guys!

Good for you, Sarajane!! You go girl!
And stay away from those high-fat eating women... they're NOT a good support for you, no matter how nice they may be!

Good luck on WW Sarajane! I was on the program before and I thought it was good and I did lose. My girlfriend lost 70lbs on it and kept it off

Way to go Sarajane. Start movin that body girl. Take it from someone who knows, once you get yourself into a routine of healthy eating and exercise, you will lose the weight and start to feel so good about yourself. Sure I slide back every now and again, we all do. That is caled living, but always keep in the back of your mind, the goals you have set for yourself. I want to be able to run a 5 k, I want to go rock climbing and be able to hug the rocks, I want to chase my kids around, ride my bike, dance like nobody's watching and live life to the fullest.
Way to go! You can do it girl!
Hugs

I think WW is a great program Sarajane - I get lots of inspiration from WW postings and sometimes use the points system to track my eating. I haven't joined formally as it is too expensive (I would do it online at home if I did do it).

For me the motivation is summer clothing and feeling - comfortable in my own skin, as it were - less self-conscious and able to be more outgoing. I am a sort of shy person and being heavier tends to make me feel even more shy and quiet. When I feel good about how I look I am more sociable, which is a good thing.

Also (and this is aside from the doing-it-for-me thing, which is the most important) I like not having my dad make awful comments, and being a good example to my 2 girls (who are 9 and 6 and thank goodness do not have the weight issues I had
at their ages, I was always about 10 lbs overweight as a kid). And even though DH never said anything when I was heavier, the few times he HAS noticed there is less of me, have been really really great.
