She was mostly OK through the chemo. Animals don't get the same side effects as humans with some of the cancer drugs used for them. But this new drug is having a big effect. My client is desperate to keep the dog going though since the dog is 8 years old. Lots of backstory too that I won't go into. I will keep leaning toward pain management and letting her go when she is ready. I've been through enough pet deaths to know when that time comes.Originally Posted by JayEll
I would never put an animal of mine through that. I'm so sorry for that dog.
I'm all about comfort. Trixie's ear hematoma reabsorbed on its own, leaving her with a droopy but otherwise OK ear. The surgery suggested and the aftermath would have been very stressful and I doubt I would have had it done, even though I could afford it. But Trix is 11. If she were 3 I might be thinking differently.
DH and I have luckily made the right decisions for all the pets we've had together. I aim to continue that. I feel sad for some of my client's pets - two dogs immediately come to mind - but I can only offer advice that they usually refuse. They go with what the vet says and it seems a lot of the vets here are going for whatever makes them the most money. Sad.

Congrats on your election day weight!

I will have to start weighing once a week again for awhile - the pandemic's given me an excuse to let myself get above my winter weight upper level.
