Had to go back down to the Hospital this afternoon, so I just left in enough time to do what I needed to do, and then headed on home!
We didn't get down to SHELL'S on SUNDAY for my BIRTHDAY DINNER, so we're going to go tomorrow night.
The HEAT here is already so bad...humidity makes you wet enough to drip, and the grass is crunchy! We need rain so bad, you know, the kind that is steady and goes on for a couple of days and nights
SOLLY & MONET....OK..OK...I'll get it done. I want to know too, and now that I'm getting off a little earlier, I can run by my DOCS office and tell him what I want to do.
SOLLY...are you getting any emails from me? I got a warning today that I didn't understand and I just want to make sure. Let me know.
KAYE...all three early people (8 a.m.) changed their hours to 7:30 to 4:00. It's only 30 minutes, but it sure does make a difference with the traffic!
CINDY...What's up with the OT??? I thought they were laying off? Have you calmed down since the other day?
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, ''Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?''
I replied: I had a drug problem when I was young:
I was drug to church on Sunday morning.
I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.
I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.
I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.
I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word.
I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields.
I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.
Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.__________________
Through a whole serious of crappy events this morning we missed our flight to the bahamas. I've never missed a flight in my life. It was horrible.
First, Travis had a friend scheduled to pick us up at 7am to drive us to the airport. First mistake right there. Sweet guy. NEVER on time. He showed up at 7:30 and the difference of traffic in that half hour is pretty huge since we live downtown in atlanta.
So we book it to the airport and, amazingly, still got there at 8:05.But you should have SEEN the lines at the desk. No problem, we can do the electronic check in...Well, after 10 minutes of it not finding our confirmation we went to stand in the huge line, assuming that we just needed to. After 10 minutes int he line, an attendant tells us that we CAN do the e-check, but have to talk to the service person who is standing there doing nothing. So off we go, thrilled to be skipping the rest of the line.
We gave her our confirmation number and that's when the real problems started... First thing she asked for? Passports. You should have seen Trav's face. He knew exactly where they were. At home in the desk. Ummm....yeah. To be honest, I didn't even know we needed them. I assumed it was the smae as going to Puerto Rico, Mexico or Cnanda. BUt TRavis knew...
The panic begins. It's now 8:40 and the flight is at 9:38. Luckily the babysitter has our car, but isn't too comfortable driving downtown or near the airport. Not sure why, but whatever.
Poor Kathryn threw the kids in the car and headed our way in what was left of rush hour traffic. Thank god for the HOV lane with the kids! She got there at 9:02 and we were checked in by 9:05.
Then we flew. I used my pregnant powers to convince the employee at the security check to let us skip the line. THat was great. Then I got the peopel at the actual check out who are puting their bags through to let us jump in front. The tram was right on time. Doors closed right as we jumped on.
As the tram pulled up to the C terminal for us to get off, Trav was the first one out the door. It was 9:09. The gates supposedly close 10 minutes before..
I stayed back to walk the bags (we weren't checking any) as Trav bookes it up the 2 storry escalator thats BROKEN. THen of course, we are at gate 3, all the way at the end...
I lugged the 1 bag up the damn broken escalator, thinking it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm pregnant, not handicapped, right? Well, half way up I knew it was a mistake. The bigger mistake was letting Trav take my bag with my inhaler... NOT good. By the time I got to the top people were looking at me becasue I was breathign hard. Then the real wheezing set in. I didn't knwo what to do. I needed to stop so I could breath, but I HAD to get to Travis with my inhaler, at the other end of the terminal. I don't know how I did it. By the time I got ot the desk my lips wer numb and I was shaking. I was right at the verge of passing out. And it was 9:12.
I was too busy puffing my inhaler and trying not to throwup to understand what was going on. We made it, right? Wrong. THey changed the friggin departure time to 9:20. Which meant the doors closed 2 minutes before we made it. They knew we checled in at 9, but couldn't do anything about it, they said.
I'm so embarassed. I cried. I think the fact that I almost passed out did it. I haven't had an asthma attack like that in over a year. TEh fact that we made the time as it should have been, but they had moved the time up so it was all for nothing. At least it was crying quietly. I couldn't even talk for 10 minutes. The lady in charge came up and asked what we wanted to do. Umm, other than get on the friggin plane that was still sitting there? I just wanted to sit there and be mind numb for a minute.
So, we told her to go ahead and reschedule us for tomorrow. Well, trav did. I was still staring into space on my albuterol high. It took her a minute to come back, and in that time I gained control of my brain again. She came back and said that there was really no way we could have made it, since we had checked in at 9. I looked at her and said "We've been here since 8. We didn't know we needed our passports. I didn't consider it international because Airtran doesn't have international flights." You should have seen the look on her face. She was horrified. I think they didn't let us on to make a point since we were 'late'.
After we got the tickets squared away, we called AIrtran and they were able to extend our return flight to monday morning. We called the owner of the condo we are renting, and he said it is available for the extra 2 nights, and only charged us for 1!! Not only that, he's just going to take it out of our security depsit, instead of make us come up with more $$. GREAT GUY! We were going to be 3 nights, but now we will be 5, since there aren't any return flights available Saturday or Sunday.
We sat ther for an hour before we were ready to move. And, amazingly we were pretty much over it by the time we got up. We went and ate lunch at the Houlihan's in the Airport, and then rode the Marta Train back to downtown,s o that KAthryn didn't have to pick us up again. We came home and took a nap with the kids and then took them to the Aquarium for a couple of hours. It was the least busy it's ever been. IT was great.
In the long run, we will get 2 extra days in the Bahamas, and we got to spend the day with the kids. No errands, no comittements. It's been nice.
So, now I'm going to go grill the steaks I go fir dinner and pretend that we are on the beach. We sure as **** better be tomorrow!!!
Evening all. I have a quick 5 minutes before bed. Been a pretty good last two days. I went to bed at 8 last night and that seemed to help a bit.
We had rain all day so I just stayed in when I got home and did one of my exercise dvds.
Bob- OT is not my choice . Its always mandatory when they schedule it. People are coming in on Saturday to get their hours in. Not me. Im not giving up my weekend unless Im forced to.
Hope everyones eating well and getting some exercise in!
Ok, if anyone actually read all of that, you're amazing!! I jsut cpied it over from my blog to let you all know what is going on. I think we deserve an award for making it from check-in to the gate in undre 15 minutes at the ATLANTA AIRPORT!!
I've eaten well today, except for a couple of poor-me oreos. How they got in my house, I don't know...
I'm not touching the computer anymore tonight. I'm on vacation, dang it!!!
Just a fly-by to say hi and let you all know I'm still here. I'm real tired- its real late and I'm heading to bed! I will check back in the morning and TRY to post a pic or two maybe!!! Night night. MUNCH
Evening! Dinner was Asian chicken patties, and stir fried nappa. It was good! I skipped the rice.
TALITHA: I am so sorry you missed the flight! What an experience! But what a blessing to have extra time there! Enjoy!
MUNCH: Sweet dreams!
CINDY: Hope you rest well too!
BOB: Get that meter! PLEASE. You can purchase one from even Publix. A small vial of test strips will last you a long time if you are only testing once a week to monitor the levels. How I wish I had had a meter six months, or even a year ago! I have a horrible feeling my bg was really high for a long long time...like since my hysterectomy 18 months ago!
My bg levels were good tonight.
Hey, where is Gator? Country? Tech? Nicolee is missing too...
I'm up getting ready for work and just wanted to tell everyone to HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
OK, Monet, I get paid today and I'll purchase one and we'll find out what
we all want to know...it will proabably scare us to death when I do it, but I've got to know in order to get myself on a HEALTHY TRACK!!!
Good Morning! I teach today...well, kind of. Its standardized testing week, so I am helping in the second grade, then teaching. I need to talk to the headmaster...she scheduled my classes solid from 11 to almost 3 with no breaks. I HAVE to have a lunch period to do my glucose monitoring and eat at a regular time. She is not going to be happy when I tell her that this morning.
Tonight, I am supposed to have a meeting, but did not send out reminders until last night. So far, two key people are not going to be here. I should have postponed it. Grrr....its going to be a hassle having it and not know who will show up.
Ok, off to get dressed and eat breakfast. See ya all later!
Where is everyone??? we're having standardized testing here too. I guess all of Georgia is at the same time. My kids have always been good "test-takers" so I don't stress too much about it. It is a very busy week otherwise too. We had dance pictures on Monday, chorus concert tomorrow, and band banquet on Friday. Then we have a dance competition this weekend! Rachel is dancing both Saturday night and Sunday night in downtown Atlanta. Thankfully next week is a little calmer!
I had my allergy test on Monday and reacted to everything! I start my shots on Monday. Sean and I will have a date every week!
I'm still very tired from the wedding Friday nite. I haven't had a day off work until today. It rained here all nite long and most of the day it has misted. We really needed the rain to. It rained most of the day before the wedding and about 1/2 hour before the wedding started it quit and the sun came out. She had an outdoor wedding so everything turned out beautiful. Was kinda worried with all the rain but everything worked out great. I am down 2 more lbs. That makes 36 lbs gone YIIPPPEEE!!!!!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!!
Start weight-275
Weight right now-239
Goal weight-180
Made it to the gym last night and will go tonight. DH & DD won't go tomorrow so I will have to go by myself.
Bob, for some reason my emails to you come back, I need to check your address. I am anxiously awaiting your BL results.
Talitha, I'm so sorry you missed your plane. Hope evrything works out. Enjoy your extra days. Passports are needed for every where at the end of this year.
Kate and I are off to explore lower Sarasota...we're going out to dinner. It's the one I told y'all about...my Bday dinner at Shell's...I'm going to have shrimp scampi..they give you a full pound of shrimp done in garlic and throw it in a bowl...I will have some to bring home since it's a lot of shrimp. She wants fried shrimp...I just can't eat fried foods anymore..SO..I'll check in when I get back home.
MONET...It's TOMORROW I get paid...I thought it was Thursday this morning!
Jackie I sent you an email...I think I figured out the problem..IF you don't get it..send me a PM with the correct address.
School was a challenge. The kids were terribly hyper. This was the third day of testing for them, and you could tell they were feeling the strain. I wanted to scream half way through each and every class. I had to ask for a ten minute break to check my blood glucose levels. They were not too bad. I ate my lunch while the middle school students were in my class. I did not get a break all day. I can't wait for the easy going pace of my usual schedule next week...when I have a planning period and a lunch period.
The head mistress suggested I tell the kids what I was doing - ie my bg test. I shared with all the classes about being diabetic. Some asked good questions, some seemed confused, and some seemed to understand totally. The oldest students asked me what you can do to avoid getting diabetes, and I told them to lay off the sodas, junk and sugar. They seemed a bit disappointed! I shared with them my glasses story, which they found amusing. I am wearing my old glasses, but my eyes have improved so much even they are no longer clear for me! Its weird! My eyes have actually improved so much in just a few weeks!
I was supposed to have a meeting here tonight. I postponed it until next week though. Only one person was committed to coming so far, and that one person was not doing anything we need to be working on tonight. Everyone else cancelled. I hope they all got the message that it was postponed, since I do not want them showing up at my door anyway.
BOB: I hope you get a One Touch Ultra. You can get one of the new Ultra 2's with a rebate that makes it free...and I just got strips from a guy on ebay for $10 for 100. They expire end of this month, but they are sealed and I got 100 from him last week and they work fine. I figure this way, I can get 100 a head and then with my insurance, I can get fresher ones to use when the old ones are gone. By the time I catch up I will be hopefully managing the levels well and can test less than I am doing now. If you don't want to buy on ebay, I can get them for you and ship them to you. Just let me know. But if your doctor will write you a script, you can probably get them with insurance.
SOLLY: I am sorry you are so busy! You are doing great, as usual, with the exercise!
THUNDER: I know you are glad to have the wedding behind you! I am so glad it went well, and that the sun came out just in time!
THIN: I don't know why the board has been so slow...it depresses me. We seem to have lost all our newbies, and some of our oldies. Pancho has not checked in for months! Country has been gone...even Gator has been MIA a lot.... Oh, allergy shots! I hope they help a lot!
I will try and check in later. I am going to do a bit of cleaning, just in case...
We're back from dinner. I ended up having a cup of CLAM CHOWDER and a GRILLED COMBO PLATTER..they have changed their SCAMPI recipe and I didn't want to take the chance of being disapointed. Everything was WONDERFUL, but we have enough left for another meal! WHEW...I'M FULL!!
MONET...I'm taking Kate to the DOC on Friday afternoon. I'll get him to write me a script then. I'll get the meter you're talking about because of the rebate. Did you say you got it at PUBLIX?? Good idea to let the KIDLET'S know what you're doing. I'm sure they were facinated more than you realize. I bet when they went home, they told their parents all about your little talk with them.
THUNDER...You need to just get some rest...The took a lot of BRAIN ACTION
so TAKE A BREAK!!!
THIN...FLORIDA has already done their testing and the scores have already come in. A lot of improvement from last year. I have a problem with these tests. The Teachers tend to stray from the normal studies and totally focus on these tests. Down here, if they don't pass this test, they can't graduate or pass to the next grade. I don't agree with that either! WHAT'S UP WITH SCHOOL THESE DAYS!!!!
Was TALITHA going today?
I'm off to see what I can get in to....EVERYONE have a GREAT EVENING!!!
