I agree you may need a tie breaker; however to ignore the numbers is a good plan too(It's not my mine but everyone is different), as long as you pay attention to the way things fit or that they hang on your frame right. I'm certain that is a good gauge too.

See, if I look at the scale, I'll just obsess over the number difference. Then I'll wake up my husband at 4am and ask him something like, "Do you think there's an apple or a banana stuck in my stomach and it's blocking everything else?!" then there will be eye rolling.

I'm calorie counting, exercising. I can't obsess over a number. Which I am obsessing over a number. So...do you think there's an apple or a banana stuck in my stomach and it's blocking everything else?!

These scale threads always crack me up! I'm right there OCD weighing with the rest of you.

I finally invested [and it is a pretty big investment] in a balance scale. It has really helped me not to obsess about the scale so much. Although it didn't need it, I could calibrate it myself [control issues, here]. The scale is correct. No arguing, no denial, no fudging. And no complaining. Weigh once in the morning and get on with life...

I actually bought a 3rd scale while I was out today (and hid it in the coat closet). This one reads five lbs less than the original scale.

So..I have no idea. I'll ponder it while I walk the dog around the park a few times.

Sounds like you need to ditch the scale and go for measuring once a week and/or using a pair of tight fitting jeans (not stretch) to check your progress once a week. I am doing that (the pants) b/c I felt that I got too mad/sad if I didn't see the number I wanted.

I think you have quite the issue going there. Maybe the universe has found a way to tell you this isn't your way to keep track after all? Might I ask what brands are all these scales? I like the Taylor digital ones.

Owlsteazombies, I can't post links because I'm still a new member. However if you do a search on the most accurate scales, it might point you to the best of the 3 you have. I hope that might help.

I totally feel for you! I only have a rubbish pointy arrow type scale at home. My secret trick is that when I take my dogs to hydrotherapy each week I get on the dog scales! Very accurate and the fact that they aren't in my house means I can't obsess over weight myself too much.

So..I should go to my vet's office and hop on the elevator table/scale? I have no idea how I would even approach that subject with them. Maybe just ninja myself inside and then do a jedi mind trick to the dog and its owners already there. "You don't see me!"

Or. I could just ask my dr's office. Yea. Probably a better scenario resulting in less police cars.

if you tested the new one and its accurate then you might weigh more than you thought. several years ago: i remember almost crying when i got down to 198 and then my scale broke and i had to get a new one. it put me at like 210. everyone is right of course, you're still the same size and you've still lost the same amount of weight no matter what you actually weigh, but it can be disheartening indeed.

I agree that it's probably good to stop stressing, but we all want to know what that darned number is. Weighing small items, like 5 pound weights or a bag of flour, may not tell you the whole picture. If a scale is off by 2%, for example, that would be 4 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds, but would hardly be able to be measured if you are weighing a 4 pound bag of flour. My best advice is to check at the doctor's office - knowing it could be off a little, too - and then compare to the scales at home. If your old scale says you lost 50 pounds, then you lost 50 pounds. Period. If the old scale says you now weigh 245 and the new accurate scale says you weight 260, you still lost 50 pounds - but your starting weight was off. Adjust that, subtract the 50 pounds, and keep going. Or if none of your scales are exactly the same as the doctor's scale, pick the closest one, ignore the rest, adjust the starting weight and use the numbers on your most accurate scale as being the "official" weight. It's all relative. No one really knows what they weigh. Just what their scale says they weigh. that's close enough.

One more thing - my scale is pretty accurate to my doctor's scale on the hard floor in the bathroom. I'm about 12 pounds lighter on the carpet in my bedroom and almost 20 pounds lighter in the spare bedroom. All due to different carpet thickness. The scale has to be on a hard surface to even have a chance at being accurate.

I got weighed in at my doctors last week, I'm due to go back in 2 weeks time... is once every 3 weeks going to be enough incentive to keep me going ?? Or... will I cheat the first week hoping to starve the 2nd 2 weeks ?

Last March, I stopped using my scale and started stepping on my sisters. She has a more hightec one and It put me at 4 pounds heavier then my scale. It sucks but it dosen't take away from your progress you've already made. Just a way to track it...I love your idea about avoiding your scale for a bit and just focusing on staying on track..

On the bright side, when you hit your goal, you'll be able to brag you lost 20 more pounds then you orgionally thought
